  1. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 04:14 PM) You don't have to agree. Especially if the Bulls end up with Mayo. That would be a heck of a core, and the window for a championship would be broken wide open by Gar Forman for years to come. Maybe I'm confused. Then you're saying that package, assuming it's legit, would definitely be worth Mayo? And what do you mean broken wide open by Forman?
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) Well first, a lot can change in a year or two. Morel, Dunn, Konerko, various outfielders... one or more can get injured, traded, fall apart performance-wise, etc. Second, its not like the guy was putting up stupid numbers at AAA - he's 21 (my bad earlier saying 20) and still developing, and a year at AAA to improve his plate discipline and get better defensively at something are very worthwhile. There is nothing irresponsible in giving him another year to develop, with 3 more years still under team control (or is it more?). Third, I don't think that trade value maximization is very tied to how blocked he is. Its much more heavily tied to demand by other teams. I think you are seriously overrating not only 1B versus 3B when he's got a serious bat, but I also think you are choosing an element of trade value way down the list to focus on. His prospective playing capabilities are number 1 regardless of what goes on around him, the needs of the other team are number 2. All else are distant 3rd or lower in consideration. Didn't Dayan go nuts after a slow start last year? If he carries that over into next year, I see no reason for him to remain in the minors for more than half a season. And you can't predict injuries. PK and Dunn have both been pretty durable throughout their careers. Obviously we don't know what we have in Morel. And I don't think I'm overrating him being blocked at multiple spots at all. Smart GMs will milk that for as much as it's worth.
  3. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) Yes. But at the same time, everyone knows Memphis must trade him. They're benching him and killing his value. Even when he's the only option available, they let him get hot, then bench him immediately almost to make sure nobody sees how good he is or can be. It's weird. It's happened about 3 times this year alone. And to be fair, I'd still take Mayo over Rose back then only because I believe Mayo's game will translate better as they get older. Rose on the other hand is already having health problems. It's not good when you have tendinitis in your knees and have lost 3 inches off your vertical within 3 years. Um, OK. lol. I don't agree with a thing you said here. But if you have a chance to get a 23-year old talent like Mayo in return for a couple role players and a draft pick, you do it. Rose/Mayo/Noah/Boozer sets you up quite nicely for a number of years. Not just 2011.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) I think the people around the league already know he's probably a 1B at this point, maybe 3B, and maybe-maybe an OF. There's no secret here - Viciedo's bat is what will get him to the majors, and teams will use him where they can. He's also only 20 (and under control for, what, 4 more yearsor something?) and the Sox would be perfectly content to wait for things to develop with him and players around him, so I don't really see much weakness in the Sox' position. I understand that. But we've got a couple guys by the names of Konerko and Dunn that are going to hold down 1B/DH for the next three years. So again, unless he proves otherwise, there's nowhere to play him. Not saying he's untradeable. But it's going to be hard, IMO, to get back maximum value considering the circumstances. And I'm TOTALLY against stashing him in the minors. Maybe to start the year. But unless he really struggles to begin the year, that would be irresponsible on multiple levels.
  5. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) Haddadi is decent, but Memphis never took the time to develop him. They actually have a nice big rotation, but a lot of their guys are having their deals due up. I believe Randolph and Gasol are coming up soon. Gasol is a lock to stay, Zach, not so much. For as much as I love Mayo, I would not give up Asik, Taj, and the Bobcats pick for him. it's 2 of the 3 and that's it. This shocks me coming from you. Weren't you the one that said the Bulls should've taken Mayo over Rose or that he was the better prospect?
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) Phillies re-sign Romero. Brewers add Saito. I'm guessing Saito will be a setup man. Damn. Brewers are looking good. Their bullpen has the potential top be pretty nasty with Rogers, Saito, Braddock and Alford
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 02:31 PM) What possible reason would you have to think this has even a slight chance of happening? When has KW ever made a deal like that? I'm just saying we're not exactly dealing from a position of strength when other teams know we have nowhere to play him. And I don't buy this camp Cora crap. Josh Fields called and told me it's not really that impactful. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 02:49 PM) Can't raid another teams' inventories without having some inventory of your own. Also, why would KW just give Viciedo away for low value? We can still keep him. We dont have an urgent need for a High A pitcher, or really any other piece. If anything, Viciedo is traded to immediately assist the current Sox team. That is, and always has been, Kenny's MO. Whether he gets fair MLB value might be debatable but there is zero reason to just dump Viciedo, and it will never happen (unless he someday becomes a 28 year old AAAA failure...which will also not happen.) Because he wasn't signed to a 4-year deal to sit in the minors. And if he can't show that he can play a competent position, 3B or OF, his value diminishes greatly.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) Ugh, I hate Lebron so much now. Easily becoming the A-Rod of basketball: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/truehoop/mia...tory?id=5960277 What so perplexing is that he basically became a Grade A cocksucker over night. Nobody truly disliked him, maybe the hype, but not him, until the Decision.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 02:09 PM) And I think...in Brent Morel...we have one. Which ultimately brings me back to the organization's mishandling or mis-judgement of younger players. Or guys that we either draft or sign. We seem to be really good at raiding other teams inventory. But horrible at the other aspect. I don't want to see Viciedo go for a struggling yet talented high A pitcher that Scott Merkin will inevitably dub Cooper's next great experiment and then reference Thornton, Floyd and Contreras.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 02:11 PM) The Knicks are really weird right now though...they're in that position where they're now good enough that they won't get great draft picks, but where they really need someone else to help them out in order for them to take the next step. If Carmelo Anthony is 100% determined that he's going to play for the Knicks come what may, then either the Nuggets or Anthony will be the one helping them out. Yes. Anthony to the Knicks would definitely complicate matters. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) Thing is we don't know about future deals with that team. How many of us saw them pawning Pau Gasol off for nothing? Their FO is very smart. I have a sick feeling they will deal Bynum in the future and receive a better package than people might think. Same thing goes for other teams too. If The Clippers can actually stop being the Clippers (and I mean that in FO decisions as well) they will be good too in 2-3 years with their core and future top 5 picks. I disagree about Bynum. I don't know how any team would touch him. And the Lakers are going to hit a slump once Kobe ultimately declines or retires. Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon is about as good a 1-2 punch to build around in the game aside from Durant and Westbrook. But they're still the Clippers.
  11. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 02:06 PM) You've got the big 3 in Miami signed for 3 years, the Lakers will be there (even with a 34-35 year old Kobe) the Thunder are up and comming, New York is a piece or two away, etc.. The Bulls would be in better shape, but I just don't know if O.J. Mayo would be enough. Then again.. Derrick Rose can become mini/PG LeBron in 2 years and then my concerns are out the window. The Lakers? Really? They're still a contender this year. But the clock is ticking, IMO. Fisher looks about done. Artest has declined considerably. Bynum is the NBA version of Nick Johnson. And I really don't see Kobe remaining a top 5 player at age 34. I agree with you about the Knicks and especially the Thunder, though.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) Although this statement was true 10 years ago in the middle of the needle-boom, it's no longer as true as it once was. Last year, for example, there were only 11 1b in baseball who had OPS's over .800, 8 LF's, and 9 RF's. And a lot of those guys either were really F***ing expensive or will be really F***ing expensive starting this year. On average last year, each of the 30 teams in MLB had 1 guy out of 1b, LF, and RF who put up an .800+ OPS over the full season. A lot of teams had zero guys who did. Yeah, I read an article on that just recently. Still, a productive 3B is a lot harder to come by than a productive 1B.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) I don't know about this year, but within a year or two, I think Mayo probably does, if he can be fit into a working system. This year, I'm not sure yet if anyone does, even Anthony...but Mayo or Jackson would give the Bulls a 100% legitimate shot, if they could be healthy going into the playoffs. Yeah, adding a guy like Mayo would be as much about 2012-2015 as it would be 2011. The Celtics won't be a factor much longer. Other than that GIANT elephant in the room that is the Heat, I'd really like our chances going forward. Even if we came up short this year.
  14. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) Maybe I'm missing the context of this post, but I hardly consider the Dunn signing a failure just because it may or may not marginally affect the value of an ancillary player. EDIT: Or were you referring to the signing of Viciedo himself, perhaps? It's a failure because obviously there was a mis-calculation, or just pure stupidity, that he could play 3B. That's what made him such an intriguing prospect. You can go to the Walmart and find a productive 1B/LF/RF.
  15. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) I want Viciedo nowhere near 3B. Absolute butcher. Couple that with abhorrent platoon splits, weight issues, a complete lack of plate discipline and you have a prospect who is nothing more than average. If Dayan isn't traded he absolutely should be learning an OF corner next year. No reason to unseat Morel (if successful) unless Dayan magically acquires defensive aptitude. Considering the Sox moved him to 1B after one minor league season leaves me less than confident it will happen. Then the signing was ultimately a failure. Does anybody really trust KW to get fair value, whatever that is, for Dayan?
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 01:06 PM) Just think about how much of a middle finger it would be to the NCAA rules... Other than the exceptional talent, the thing that I like about Mayo is that to this point he's been extremely durable. He hasn't missed a single game through nearly 2 1/2 years [all but 14 of those were starts] and has placed third and sixth in minutes played the last two years. Not sure where he ranks this year. And that career .385 3PT percentage makes the mouth water a little bit more.
  17. We get Mayo and then we're in business. I'd hate to lose Gibson. But f*** it. Mayo/Rose back-court would be beyond electric.
  18. Maybe we could trade for Monta Ellis
  19. I have no idea how legitimate this rumor is. But the Bulls could be in the running for a legit 2-guard. http://www.rumorpress.net/ God I want Mayo. Not a fan of Stephen Jackson or J.R. Smith.
  20. Qwerty=the GOAT poster. Happy bday to both.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 26, 2010 -> 08:51 PM) Something overlooked: Dayan will only be 24 by the time Paulie's contract is up. He can work on his walking ability and playing corner OF/3B (Morel insurance) in AAA. You can't be suggesting we stash Viciedo away for three years.
  22. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 26, 2010 -> 11:23 PM) If the Heat don't win the championship can we take the MVP away from him than? Regular season award. But my top-2 candidates right now are Amare and Dirk. With Rose just a tick behind.
  23. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 26, 2010 -> 11:50 PM) Isn't he throwing like 83mph? I don't know why anyone would really want him except for the lowest of contracts. I wouldn't consider that a "miss" for the Cubs, or any other team for that matter. It's a 1-year deal with what I'm sure are heavy incentives. There's virtually no risk and a big reward if he's even 75 percent of what he was a couple years ago.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 26, 2010 -> 08:35 PM) You don't win an MVP for what you did last year. True. But he's still averaging 25/7/7 for a top 5 team in the league. Combine that with how bad the Cavs are and I think it just extrapolates his value that much more.
  25. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 26, 2010 -> 08:27 PM) Dotel signs with Toronto, 1 year $3.5 million. Wow, I like that for Toronto. Makes you believe we really are done making any major additions.
