QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 06:10 PM) Favre's active and starting. I'll take that trade off. I love the opportunity to embarrass him in what will be his final nationally televised game.

Official 2010-11 NFL Thread
QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 06:02 PM) Adrian Peterson is out tonight. I think that is worse than starting Joe Webb at QB. Die Gerhart! Wow, it will be utterly embarrassing if we don't win tonight.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 05:59 PM) Who's the Cardinals 5th starter supposed to be? Isn't Lohse their 4th? That would be Westbrook or Garcia. Lohse is probably their 5th starter. Is Brad Penny gonna be back? I can't remember.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
Why would Bush be in the rotation? Wouldn't it be Chris Narveson? 12-9, 4.99 ERA, 4.22 FIP, 4.33 xFIP, WAR of 1.7. I'll take that from my fifth starter. And I would agree that the Brewers have the third best rotation behind the Phillies and Giants. Only team you could argue are the Cardinals.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
A tad off-topic, but am I the only one that's starting to think the AL is no longer the more dominant league? Yes, you've got the two cash whores in NY and Boston. But that's somewhat offset by the NL cash whore that has become the Phillies. Outside of that, what's the difference between the two leagues? The NL will never score more runs due to the DH. That has nothing to do with quality of the league. Just a rule (a dumb one depending on who you talk to).

This is a 6.4 win improvement. All offensive stats were taken from Bill James' Handbook. The defensive stuff was mostly done by me based on career UZR/150 values at said position. If the pitching holds up, the Sox could win 95ish games with this offense. I know the Morel projections are overly optimistic, but that's not exactly my doing. Nice work. And lol at CQ's UZR and DR projections. What's sad is that would be a substantial improvement over the debacle that was his 2010 defense.

White Sox sign Jesse Crain
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 02:02 PM) I like the deal. Hopefully Crain will do for the Sox like he did for the Twins...especially against the Twins! I can't like a deal in which we give a non-elite relief pitcher 3 guaranteed years. But I like it as far as 2011 goes. Just have to pray after that.

John Danks
Felix Hernandez Justin Verlander Josh Johnson Yovani Gallardo Jon Lester Brett Anderson Ricky Nolasco What do these guys have in common? They've all signed multi-year extensions in the last year. Other than Nolasco and maybe Anderson, everybody on that list is better than John Danks. I don't want to trade Danks. But if he's as determined to test the FA market as it appears, there's really no other option. I don't want draft picks. As I don't trust the franchise to properly utilize them anyway. My question is at what point do you legitimately look to deal John assuming there's no agreement on an extension? You could obviously get more for him now since he's under control for two more years. Do you ride it out this year, attempt to get a deal done next offseason, then trade him if you can't get one done? This concerns me very much. If we have to trade him I want the absolute max that we could get back. And the more time that goes by the harder and harder it will become to do that.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 11:39 AM) Sorry, I guess it wasn't very clear but I was referring to the Cubs trading Nolasco (along w/ Mitre & Pinto) to the Marlins to get Juan Pierre. For one season during which they won 66 games. Ahhhh. I understand now. I was like wth? lol.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 10:58 AM) I wonder if the one season of Juan Pierre the Cubs had was worth trading him away. This might be the most random post in Soxtalk history. Yes, it was worth it. They went to the playoffs the next two seasons. JP wouldn't have put them over the top.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) Marlins re-sign Ricky Nolasco to a 3-year, $26.5 million extension Good deal for both sides. Nolasco is one of those guys that if he ever puts it together for a whole season he could challenge for the CY. He's that talented. I still have vivid memories of that game against the Braves in 2009 in which he fanned 16 and a mind-blowing 9 in a row. Every time each of these young pitchers get locked up I become more and more convinced that Danks is determined to test the FA market.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 08:59 AM) The rotation is suddenly looking solid for the Brew Crew, Gallardo/Marcum/Greinke/Wolf. Its always nice to see middle market teams make moves like this, showing their fans they are legitimately going for the playoffs. The Brewers totally gutted their system. But if you're going to do that, you do it for impact player(s). Greinke and Marcum are certainly impact players.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 06:00 PM) Another way of looking at it... BenBadler A few folks asked what an equivalent package from TEX would be. My response: Andrus, Scheppers, Borbon, Erlin I agree totally. Though I don't know s*** about Erlin. But Badler backs up my view that Esocbar and Andrus are pretty much clones.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) Yep. Exactly. Well that's just not realistic. Posey and Stanton both had questions marks when they were in the minors. Can Posey cut it as a catcher? Can he hit with enough power? Stanton strikes out too much, ect. Greinke is a really good pitcher. But he's not Felix Hernandez. I think the Royals did great. You're entitled to your opinion, of course.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) I just want to say I love mlb network. I'm now watching the 40 most memorable fan moments and it really brings back some funny memories . Morganna the Kissing Bandit (google it if you don't know about her) , the kid who caught 2 foul balls in the same at bat, disco demolition, Bartman , fans throwing Reggie bars after a Jackson HR against the Sox , ARod's return to Seattle with Monopoly money floating down onto the field and many more. MLB Network, Fangraphs and Baseball Reference are the three greatest things to happen to baseball fans this century.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) If I were trading a guy one-year removed from a Cy Young award, I'd want the centerpiece to be something other than a slick-fielding, slap-hitting ss. JMHO. Who's to say he's the centerpiece? You could argue Cain or Jeffress as the main component. It's when you put all three together that makes it a great deal. Again, what is a "stud" in your mind? Buster Posey? Mike Stanton? Guys like that?

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 03:49 PM) Well, I'm just going off what I know of Escobar, and from what I read from Brewers fans. They didn't seem at all concerned about losing those prospects. Secondly, if I'm trading Greinke, I want at least one absolute stud back. I don't view any of these prospects as that. Then I just have to assume you're not in tune to the minor leagues. I'm a BA subscriber and I follow prospect-laden sites like minorleagueball religiously. The guys the Royals got back are consensus top 50-60 prospects. And unless you get to watch these guys (prospects in general), you really have no choice but to go off what you read/hear (experts, scouting reports, ect). But in this case, I've seen 3 of the 4 guys they got back. And all 3 are supremely talented. I have no idea what your definition of a stud is. But as far as I'm concerned, the Brewers got 3 back.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) I think there are now 3 teams there which could be really, really, really good. The Reds still look like the class of that division to me, and the Cardinals are same as last year. I agree. But it's not like the AL east where it's pretty much a lock that you need 95 wins to get to the playoffs. All I know is the Cubs are toast. That's the most important thing.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 01:27 PM) Wow, the Brewers are going all-in on next year and canceling out every year after next year. I'd imagine Greinke gets traded again next offseason. And I don't have a problem with that all in the NL central. There's nothing close to a dominant team in that division.
