Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) I'm pretty sure Greinke started pitching with right-hand recently. Probably the reason for his success. lol. I didn't even catch that. Sure it was just a small brainfart by Q.

Inaugural Soxtalk Winter Meetings & Drinkathon
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 12:12 PM) We should try to get this stickied in the main forum. I think the attendance would greatly increase by the added exposure. I'm going to try to come. Just look for a good-looking black dude with a backwards Sox cap on,

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 01:01 PM) Santana, Sabathia, Lee, Greinke. All Cy Young award winners, AL Central, lefties. Maybe it's good Buehrle didn't win the Cy Young? It's going to be so fun watching the Brewers and Reds pulverize the Cubs next year.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 12:15 PM) The Royals farm system is loaded. Eventually, they're going to have to stop stocking up a surplus of talent and actually make the deals that are going to help them win ball games now, instead of in the future. Thing is 3 of the 4 players they got are major league ready. It's not like they have to wait around for 2-3 years for these guys to develop. Not sure how much anybody around here knows about Escobar. But he really is an Elvis Andrus clone. His bat has to improve. But this guy can play a mean ass SS.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 12:11 PM) lol, who said the Royals got fleeced? This is a great deal for them. Go to Northsidebaseball.com and check out the Greinke thread. Those morons make me sick.

Red Sox sign Dan Wheeler for 1 year, 3 million. They're having one of the better offseasons in recent memory.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 09:42 AM) This deal makes me smile. The Yankees lose, and the Cubs road gets harder. What's not to like? Cubs fans are dumber than I ever imagined. Apparently if you take 2009 away Greinke is Ryan Dempster. Not realizing the undeniable fact that Greinke will be even better in the NL. Then a couple other idiots claim the Royals got "fleeced." Pathetic.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 10:59 AM) I suppose this is good news. For our sake it would have probably been better for the Royals to be dumb and hold onto him, but the haul they got doesn't frighten me all that much. I'll be curious to see how Escobar turns out, but color me unimpressed thus far (yes, I know he is very young). I wonder if the Brewers will step up their efforts to deal Prince now. I'm not saying it should frighten you. But are you crazy? Maybe 1 or 2 teams in baseball could've topped that haul. I'd like to know what would impress you? 4 Jason Heywards?

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 09:03 AM) Jake Odorizzi Born: 3/27/1990 Height: 6'2" Weight: 175 lbs Throws: R With the 32nd pick of the 2008 First Year Player Draft, the Milwaukee Brewers took the right-handed Jake Odorizzi to improve the pitching depth in the minor leagues. It is extremely easy to see why the Crew selected the youngster so high in the draft. Not even 19-years old at this point, Jake has a repetoire of three (potentially four) pitches that project to be league-average or better. He throws a fastball that sits comfortably in the low-90s, but Brewerfan.net reports it can run up to 95-96 MPH. The right-hander also features a two-plane slider that serves as his out pitch and projects to be a plus-pitch and a diving curveball he can throw for strikes. As with all young Brewers pitchers, he is developing a change-up. It is a promising pitch, he does not quite have the feel for it yet. It could potentially be a fourth league-average pitch in his already impressive arsenal. A high-school pitcher with four relatively established pitches is very difficult to find, and many scouts believe Odorizzi could turn out to be one of the best pitchers of the draft.[/i] Milwaukee JS Thanks. I had never heard of the guy. Looks to have some serious upside.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
Who the hell is Jake Odorizzi? Anyway, he sported a K/9 of 10.1 as a 20-year old in A ball last year. And he was a 1st-round pick. Dayton Moore for the win.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
This appears to be one of those rare outstanding trades for both teams. I can't believe the Brewers are parting with Esobar, but like Kyle said, adding Greinke to a rotation that already features Gallardo, Marcum and Wolf makes them, IMO, the favorite in the Central (poor Cubs). And did the Royals get a f***ing package back or what? THAT'S how you do s*** (take notes KW if you have to deal Danks). They weren't winning s*** with Greinke. He didn't want to be there. So they get back a young, athletic, bible award potential (the Gold Glove is dead to me) SS with an improving bat and +speed. A major league ready OF who's been a consensus top 50-60 prospect for the last two years. And a major league ready young/electric arm that routinely hit 97-98 MPH who could start or close for them, giving them flexibility to deal Soria. GREAT deal for the Royals.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 01:23 AM) I saw that. Skeptical due to no one else picking up on this rumor. I'll wait until Heyman or Olney say something.... Yeah, I'll wait to see something else. I'd be shocked if they dealt Escobar. He's basically their Elvis Andrus.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
Whoa! I see this thread turned into Balta vs Shack. Anyway, I've never said I wanted a team full of home grown players. But a couple every now and then sure would help. That's it.

Bobby Jenks to the Red Sox
Funny thing is I want to wish Bobby well. But not as a Red sock. I respect their organization and how it's run. But their fans makes me so sick.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 18, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) Kobe's teams also were either missing the playoffs or barely squeaking in before the Gasol trade (Kobe has many nut-huggers who downplay the fact that Gasol might be the best PF in the NBA right now) No doubt. Kobe is one of the best players I've ever seen. I can't deny that. But if that Bogus Gasol trade doesn't go down, he has as many rings as I do since 2002. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 18, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) The 04 Lakers only won 56 games with both Shaq and Kobe. The 05 lakers lost Kobe for 20 games and only won 34. The 05/06 lakers, Pre-Gasol arrival, basically just Kobe as the only thing there, won 45 games with Kobe scoring 35 ppg. And I'd take any of those Laker casts from '05-'07 over what LeBron had to work with in Cleveland. LeBron really is a special player. Many have seem to have forgotten.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 18, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) LeBron was probably worth 40 wins to that Cavs team which is insane and shows you just how good LeBron James is. There isn't another player in basketball who could have gotten those Cavs teams close to 66 or 61 wins. No doubt about it. Man that team is horrible. Their leading scorer is Mo Williams at like 14.5 PPG and 39% shooting. I have no qualms about LeBron leaving. I just thought joining a team that had Wade was too easy. Chicago or NY would've been ideal.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
Well the Magic just acquired Arenas, Richardson, Turkoglu and Earl Clark for Carter, Lewis, Gorat, Pietrus, a first round pick in 2011 and $3 million in cash in two separate trades.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 18, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) Well, I'm sorry you feel that that is my standard response. I don't feel that way at all. I can respect teams that are developing talent from within while producing results at the major league level. I respect the Red Sox, Dodgers, Rockies, Angels, etc, for creating a balance between major league success and development. What I don't find particularly impressive is finishing at the bottom of the league for so many consecutive seasons that the sheer quantity of high draft picks have stacked on top of one another to create a strong system. Well you do the same thing when I bring up the Red Sox or Phillies, teams that find talent much later in the draft. I can't give them full credit because they spend. We could do the exact same thing. I never said the Royals were some blueprint on how to build a team. This was all about Greinke and what the Royals would probably expect. You made it into something that it really wasn't. And you say Moore is being mocked for stockpiling a loaded system? Or am I misinterpreting what you said?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 18, 2010 -> 02:49 PM) Lews' 3PT% inly about 4 points higher than Arenas', 36 to 32. Meh, didn't realize it was that close. But most anybody would agree Lewis is a better 3-point shooter than Arenas and not think twice about it.

Bobby Jenks to the Red Sox
QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 18, 2010 -> 02:24 PM) I'd say that Konerko, Beckham, Ramirez, Vizquel/Morel is better defensively than Gonzalez, Pedroia, Scutaro, Youkilis. And you'd be wrong. Konerko is in no way shape, or form, better defensively than Gonzalez. Beckham is not better than Pedroia. And Morel is all potential at this point. The only edge we have is Ramirez over Scutaro.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 18, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) It's just a gigantic exchange of bad contracts and bad/old/regressing players. Richardson is the best player in the deal. That's my point. That's why you don't let players play GM. MJ is a classic case of that. Seems like they're scrambling to appease Dwight Howard. How is Arenas + whatever in place of Carter + whatever an upgrade? Or Even Arenas for Lewis? Even Lewis can stretch the floor with his 3P ability. Something Arenas can't do.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 18, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) Let's not go overboard now. He's been given a blank checkbook to draft whomever he wants with their draft picks. And of this amazing collection of talent they have in their system, not one of these kids has come up and produced anything as of yet. And the only drafted player with any acclaim thus far that has come up has been a prolific bust. This isn't to say they don't have a lot of potential in their system, because they do. But let's not pretend as though he's done anything other than use the failures of his major league club and a ton of money to build their system up. That's pretty much your standard response to any team that appears to have a stocked system. "Well they spend." And? Maybe we should spend a tad more on the draft so we don't have to overpay for guys like Peavy and Rios. So we don't have to hand out 4-year deals to Scott Linebrink. So we don't have to trade for Juan Pierre. So we're not forced to bring back a declining A.J. because we have flat nothing to bring up. And I never said having a stocked system guaranteed anything. These guys can all bust. But for a team like the Royals, it's a start. I was just pointing out that Moore had a specific plan and he's executed it to this point. The Royals are looking at 2013-2014 as far as them really making their move. We shall see. For us? 2011 should be, probably won't be, a make or break year for Ozzie, KW and the entire staff. If we come up short to the Twins again then heads better f***ing roll. Enough is enough.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 18, 2010 -> 12:15 PM) Come the trade deadline, Sale might be a guy who could be a headliner for Greinke. That would definitely signal the end of the Mark Buehrle era.

Greinke traded to the Brewers
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 18, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) Yeah, I've heard that too. Yankees will no doubt dangle Joba. Probably not what you or I would consider premium SP, but we ARE talking about Dayton Moore here. Say what you will about his moves concerning the ML team. But he's been pretty spot-on regarding the farm and player development. The Royals have the consensus best system in the majors. If they trade Greinke, they're most likely going to get pitching back. And I doubt they would want Joba.
