sox close to another deal?
QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 05:58 PM) w sox are always trying to get better but if means including names of beckham, both danks etc. there not going to do that. if anything w sox will try unload contract of limbrink so they can spend on free agents. by no means do i think w sox are royals but payroll is up and not really any wiggle room You don't think they would've done that by now if it were at all feasible?

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 05:01 PM) Oh, because I thought we've been trying to do that for 4 years now, Kal. Last I checked, it hasn't worked out. In fact it hasn't worked out so much that we brought back Scott Podsednik and he was probably the mvp of the damn offense last year, unfortunately. I know you don't care for how this team is coming together, but I also think you're being a bit unrealistic. I agree with you here. There's just no realistic alternatives to what has become a chronic blackhole. Again, this just goes back to all the years of terrible drafting (I'm sounding a little like Tizzle of late).

sox close to another deal?
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) Would Adam Dunn be more appealing with a contract extension of 3-5 years? He just turned 30 so he's not too old and is still very much productive. It would be kinda like picking up Jermaine Dye before 2005. Hell yeah he would. He's the model DH. And it's not like he can't play the field (even if he's terrible at it). Which seems to be a requirement now.

sox close to another deal?
QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) It's called good scouting, large budgets, and a willingness to pay over slot. You can build a farm system in a hurry if you're willing to throw money at it. Money helps. But money is a distant second to good scouting when it comes to something as inexact as projecting a bunch of 18-20 year olds. And it's not like the Red Sox are working with top 10 picks every year. What they've done the last 5 years or so in regards to their farm has been nothing short of fantastic.

sox close to another deal?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 03:56 PM) Except A-gon is a MUCH better hitter than Quentin at this point. Easy to say that right now. Fact is our offense doesn't improve much at all with that made up proposal.

sox close to another deal?
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) Their farm... is much, much better and I'm not even counting Buchholz. They've totally debunked the myth that you can't contend every year AND have a strong farm.

sox close to another deal?
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) Would you do Quentin + Flowers + Danks + throw in for A Gonzalez? Your outfield is Pierre, Rios, Jones/Kotsay, and Paulie is the DH. We're trying to upgrade the offense. Adding Gonzalez while subtracting CQ and giving more PT to Jones and Kotsay is a lateral move.

sox close to another deal?
QUOTE (longshot7 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 03:22 PM) We both know the Dodgers are in total chaos, but I can't see them trading Ethier - I think their fanbase would revolt. You ain't lyin'. I frequent Dodgerblues.com every now and then and Ethier is their Beckham, along with Clayton Kershaw. Man, the things I would do to see Kershaw in a White Sox uni. Seriously, his curveball makes me want to...nevermind. Too graphic.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
Now that I've had some time to let this trade digest, I'm even less enamored with it than I was initially. I'm just not looking forward to two years of Juan Pierre.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:40 AM) well that's my underlying point too, is that it's pretty touch to catch lightning in a bottle, ya know? Except most of the staff is proven. That's the point. We don't have to pray that somebody, as you say, catches lightning in a bottle. Just have to pray for good health.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) I would agree, ala a perfect world projection type thing. However, that 2005 staff was just fantastic, and it really is hard to say for sure that 2010 will be better than 2005. Of course you can't say for sure. I'm just saying that nobody thought going into 2005 that the staff would be as good as it was. The only proven guys we had were Buehrle, Garcia, Hernandez and Marte. I'm a lot more sure of the 2010 staff than I was the 2005 staff going in.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) Ely and Link http://twitter.com/jonmorosi/status/6702106304 Got no problem at all with that.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:29 AM) Nevermind the fact they still hit 200 homeruns. Oh and had the best staff and pen this organization has ever had. All of which 2010 will not likely have. On paper, the 2010 staff easily trumps the 2005 staff, IMO.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) see Matt Holiday Then that settles it! The NL west features the likes of Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, Dan Haren, Brandon Webb, Ubaldo Jimenez and Jorge de la Rosa. It's not like the guy has never seen a good pitcher.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) You're just assuming something that's never happened. So if we added Albert Pujols would you ask "Do we know Albert will produce the same numbers in the AL?" I get the AL is the better league. But people get ridiculous sometimes.
-
White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) Pods proved that he could hit pretty well in the AL, something that Pierre has never done since he's always been on an NL team. So what does his .300 average last year translate to in the superior AL? You don't have to be happy with the move. But you're kinda nitpicking now. Pierre is more than capable of hitting .290-.300 in the AL.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:19 AM) He had 2 good weeks last year. Seriously he is a slappy fast guy who can't take a walk, and this is who is going to lead off? Plus, all the advanced defense metrics say his D isn't that good. He isn't good in CF. He's been pretty good in LF (minus the arm).

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
Do people really think KW would give up Hudson for Juan Pierre? lol.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:17 AM) Santos is out of options, so if he doesn't make the team, he'll probably get claimed anyway. Yeah, I know that. But I would like to see him at least get a chance.
-
White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) If he develops control, then yes it would suck to see him go. But from what I saw this past season, I wouldn't hold my breath. He probably won't amount to anything. He appears to be an extreme case of boom or bust. But we need to take chances on guys with this kinda potential. No matter the risk. We went 'safe' for years and where did that get us?

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) Son of a b****. I'm happy that the Dodgers are taking the salary, but we just replaced Pods with Pods. What happened to our new defensive philosophy? What about our need for power? Pierre is fine as long as he's in LF.
-
White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) Forgot about Santos, he is possible as well, to be on the list. I'll be pretty ticked if one of the guys is Santos.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
Pretty predictable. I'm certainly not thrilled with this move. But you know what they say: Beggars can't be choosers. The 'ideal' leadoff guy out there for us to somehow acquire simply doesn't exist. If Pierre can sport a .350/.360 OBP, and he BETTER be in LF, I can't complain too much at 8 million over two years. Let's just pray to god Jared Mitchell pans out and is ready for The Show come 2012.

Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 12:21 AM) I won't say "clearly" (2 of their 4 losses were against Atlanta and Orlando) but they are indeed up there as the top team. A part of me though still thinks Atlanta can beat them this year in the playoffs with their athleticism and they always give Boston fits. I wouldn't be shocked either if Orlando can bounce them out. This will be all moot though, when the Lakers beat any of them. KG is really starting to round into pre-injury form. I still believe with a healthy KG they at least get to the finals last year. They've got the best starting 5 in basketball and a much better bench.

The Celtics are really good at basketball. I think they're clearly the top dog in the east.
