QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 11:48 PM) I think they just start Youklis at 3rd and have Martinez or Kotchman play 1B. To have Martinez as their regular 1B means Jason Varitek is their everyday catcher. Not a good idea. And Kotchman would be a massive downgrade if he were to become a regular 1B. They're not resigning Bay. The Cameron signing all but assures that. And if they didn't want to pay Bay what he wanted, there's no way they're going to pay Holliday. JD drew is owed 28 million over the next two years. And Ellsbury isn't going anywhere.

Halladay to Phillies in 4 team trade
QUOTE (BearSox @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 11:33 PM) I do and dont get this deal. By the looks of it, none of the prospects the Phillies are getting in return from the Mariners will be a part of the Halladay deal. However, Phillipe Amounte and Gillies are very good prospects to get in return for Lee. But if I wanted to win now, I would keep Lee, use Drabek, Turner, and other prospect(s) for Halladay, and just dominate the NL with a great offense and the possibly the best rotation in baseball. However, trading Lee while his value is at it's peak is not a bad move. Good move for both the M's and Jays though. This deal can turn be good, bad, or indifferent for the Phillies. Signing Halladay to the extension is what makes the most sense for the Phillies. They're not going to pay Halladay and Lee.

QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) Unfortunately, the Alex Rios move was a bust. He has a .775 career OPS. In 2009 he had a sub .700 OPS. The Sox are paying 10 million a year for a Brian Anderson clone: an awful hitter whose defense is vastly over-rated. Rios contract is why the Sox couldn't get Figgins this off-season. The Alex Rios claim is a disaster. Signed, A disgruntled Blue Jays fan posing as a White Sox fan.

Halladay to Phillies in 4 team trade
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 09:23 PM) theyre saying happ or drabek is involved. yea, whatever, doesnt involve us lol The article Knight posted mentioned Happ and Blanton. I seriously doubt they trade Drabek after refusing to part with him in July.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 09:19 PM) ranger said its unlikely lol Not surprising. It takes two to waltz. The Padres are under no kinda pressure to trade AGON (unlike with Peavy) for anything less than a mega-haul. KW obviously has no problem trading prospects. It could possibly be, and this seems to be a difficult concept for some, that we simply don't have the pieces the Padres want.

Halladay to Phillies in 4 team trade
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 08:35 PM) if they give up happ, its a real bad trade i think. Happ and Blanton? lol. So their rotation would be Halladay, Hamels, ?, ?, ?...? I'd just ignore every rumor until there's an official confirmation.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) Just because Wise was starting for us last year doesnt mean he is a starter. Not to mention guys like Lillibridge, Fields and Anderson got some run last year.

QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 07:51 PM) Because we don't have a DH or starting outfielder? A healthy CQ alone makes this offense better than last year. Not to mention a full year of a hopefully improved Beckham. Rios is not going to hit .200 or whatever it was over a full season. And Teahen should provide an upgrade over Getz. The bench is considerably better. Yeah, I fail to see how this offense is worse than last year.

Would You Deal Jenks to Philly
QUOTE (SockMe @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 07:36 PM) is this something that is being discussed between the two teams? Not at all. I think Jason was just bored.

QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 07:15 PM) Matsui wouldn't make the offense much better than last year, but as it stands this offense is much worse than that. I hope the Sox stay away from Vlad. How on earth could the offense be much worse than last year?
-
could be something (most likely not)
Unless we're in the mix for Albert Pujols or Chase Utley, there's no one or even two guys available (not including trades) that's going to DRAMATICALLY improve this offense. Would Matsui make this offense that much better than last year with Thome? Not really. Vlad? Nope. CQ, Ramirez and Rios have to bounce back. It won't matter who we add if those three don't perform better than they did last year.

Halladay to Phillies in 4 team trade
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 06:24 PM) Career vs NL East Teams (except Philly) Halladay 8-4 3.31ERA (38ER/103.2IP) Lee 5-1 3.24ERA (18ER/50IP) Um, OK? What's this supposed to mean?

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:32 PM) why not for holliday? so if we offered flowers, viciedo, danks and hudson, they wouldnt do it? Holliday will command more years/money than Bay. Would all 4 of those guys be enough? That's kind of a double-edged sword. Our top guys aren't valued around the baseball world like they are at Soxtalk or any other White Sox oriented site. And can a team like us afford to give up all that? Even for somebody as good as AGON?

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:25 PM) i dont think they really need him that much. they just signed lackey and still are going to spend a lot of money on a of'er,most likely holliday. then just sign beltre and keep youkillis at 1st. no reason to trade prospects. we really need a legit bat like that Well they couldn't come to an agreement with Bay. So I don't see them being players for Holliday either. So they're definitely lacking a little offensively. All I'm saying is that they've got the prospects. We don't.

Halladay to Phillies in 4 team trade
QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) Phillippe Aumont, Michael Taylor named so far. Both are very good prospects. Wow, I figured Brown/Taylor/Drabek were their untouchables. Taylor is a stud.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) ur completely right. so the red sox are going to get gonzalez by giving them buchholz (and prospects) yet we would have to give up danks or floyd (and prospects) b.s. The Red Sox have a considerably better farm than we do. So they wouldn't have to give up pieces from the major league team to make a deal work.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) lol wut? Worst offseason you have experienced? How many have you experienced? We've bolstered the pen, and now have a pitching staff that may be the strongest (on paper) in baseball, or close to it. We've got a bench full of guys who are exactly what you want - Vizquel's glove and tutoring of the middle infield, Kotsay being a perfect 4th OF and 1B, Jones and his high potential for uber-cheap. You have the Sox waiting on a DH with the glut hanging out there, which is exactly what they should do. The only negative I see so far, is the missing outfielder, and its still early. Seriously, you are being absurd. What's not to like here, other than the OF spot, and oh by the way its not March yet. Or February, or January, or even late December. Have you seen a whole bunch of teams signing all the good OF's? Because until the couple big trades that came up very recently, seems to me KW was moving faster than most teams were. This team, today, is better than it was on 10/1, and far better than it was on 4/1. With the OF and DH decisions yet to come. Seems to me its been a pretty good offseason so far. I demand that Northside be banned from Soxtalk forever. He's doing something disgusting. He's doing something rarely seen around these parts. He's making sense. I want him gone!!!!!!!

Halladay to Phillies in 4 team trade
QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 03:56 PM) Halladay has over 800 more MLB innings though. I see what you're getting at. But Halladay > Lee. There's just no way around that fact. The Phillies are a better team with Halladay.

Halladay to Phillies in 4 team trade
Well the NL is certainly spoken for next year (you could probably say that with Lee as well). Lee has been great the last two years. But Halladay has been great the last eight years. And with Halladay reportedly willing to sign an extension, it's a no-brainer for the Phillies. I am very interested to see what prospects the Phils are trading. And the Mariners are going to be DANGEROUS next year. And lol@the Angels. They can't be too happy right about now.

Hideki Matsui
QUOTE (jphat007 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) Please ignore this post. It has lots of hyperbole and frustration. LOL. Vlads? Thome? Try Mark Kotsay. And the worst Sox offense of all time. Ugh. I really wanted Matsui bad. But hey, we have Alex Rios at 10 mil a year. Give me Rios in CF and a ? at DH over Matsui at DH and Wise in CF any day of the week.

How much do you care about Ks?
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 10:37 AM) True, but didn't he say that? My fault. I thought you meant the Sox wouldn't consider him if he can't play the field.

How much do you care about Ks?
QUOTE (Ranger @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 01:16 PM) I see nothing wrong with them ideally wanting someone that can do both. Worked out nicely for the Twins who had Jason Kubel play 60 games in the outfield last year. I believe that's the kind of situation they're hoping for and I think it would be great if they could do that. Just because they desire it doesn't mean they'll be able to pull it off, but there's nothing ridiculous about wanting it. Ideally? Sure. But this seems to be a requirement now. If you're fortunate enough to have a DH that can play the field (without making a fool of himself), great. But DH's are DH's for a reason.

What a shock (not). Sucks to be the Angels. So in two years they will have lost Tex, K-rod, Figgins and Lackey. I'd imagine they're really gonna step up their pursuit of Halladay. As for the Red Sox, the first 3 in their rotation is as good as it gets. But there's no way they resign Bay now. And they've got a giant hole at 3B (assuming the Lowell trade goes through). They're probably a lot more open to dealing Buchholz for a big bat now.
