QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 08:07 PM) Throw in the Gregg/Heilman trades and letting Derosa go for nothing but financial relief and you're talking one epic ass fail. That team is in some SERIOUS long-term trouble. I forgot to throw in Aaron Miles. He's been their version of Brent Lillibridge. My oh my what a terrible off-season for Mr. Jim Hendry.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) Yet we are still going for it. I would rather see whatever kids we can play, and figure it out for next year. Hudson needs to get whatever 5th starter starts from now on. Floyd needs to be shut down. Can we just bench Dye. High fly ball, he is backing up on it instead of getting behind it. Then short hops it to AJ. Strong arm. Terrible fielder. Yeah. Even though we've been out of it for over a month now I still wanted to see the team play well and finish strong. Carry some momentum into next year. But I'm at the point to where losing every game from here on out wouldn't bother me a bit. Improve that draft position. And now greg will obliterate me and tell me how the draft is a crapshoot and it's better to win as many games as possible even if you're not going to sniff the playoffs.

Passed balls, wild pitches, hit batters, walking in runs, wild throws. Have I left anything out?

2009 AL Cy Young Race
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 08:21 PM) Greinke's 204 ERA+ is the 29th highest ever for a starting pitcher and 10th highest since 1990. 2nd highest by a starter not named Clemens, Martinez or Maddux since 1990 5th highest by a starter not named Clemens, Martinez or Maddux since 1950 (Gibson, Gooden, Brown, Guidry ahead of him) 7th highest by an AL starter since 1950 (only 3 pitchers ahead of him: Martinez (3), Clemens (2), Guidry (1)) Yeah, he's getting into rarefied air Would Greinke not winning the CY be more of an abomination than Santana not getting it in 2005? I'd say yes.

2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 08:36 PM) Yeah it might be the worst offseason in recent memory for any baseball team. However I don't know about the long term thing, it kind of depends on how much money Ricketts wants to spend. Ricketts first order of business should be firing Hendry and Pinella, if he does that they're better right away. I don't see how they would be able to add any legitimate payroll with all the terrible long-term contracts they have crippling them. Soriano/Zambrano alone makes this almost impossible. Add in Fukoblowme/Bradley/Dempster/Ramirez/Lee and they're toast. Edit: I take back Lee. I see he's only signed through next year.

Is this the #1 Reason for our 2nd half debacle
QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 08:41 PM) CQ has been a major bust this year. I think this gets overlooked alot. Not surprising considering he was coming off a major wrist injury and had the plantar fasicatas or however the hell you spell it crap to deal with.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 08:39 PM) That makes no sense. He played 1 season prior to 2007. You're asking me to not count 25% of his career. I was including his minor league numbers. The guy was considered an elite prospect for a reason. The only thing that's ever held CQ back is health.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 08:29 PM) Basing this on 1 season? Other than 2007 (a year in which he wasn't 100%), he's done nothing but rake prior to this year. The question with CQ is can he stay healthy. Not if he can hit or not.

I think I'm on the move Getz to the bench and insert Nix as the starting 2B for 2010 bandwagon. I don't think Getz is a bad player. He just doesn't any one thing above average.

"The continuing fall and decline of Jermaine Dye." Something Ozzie must address. Anybody that's been here since '04 should get the joke. Damn I miss that poster.

Is this the #1 Reason for our 2nd half debacle
Easily the bullpen. This is the second year in a row we've seen it go to s*** in the second half after a stellar first half. We barely got by last year. Not so fortunate this year. The bullpen is rapidly becoming the most important aspect of a contending team. Ask Tampa what's the #1 reason between them getting to the World Series last year and missing the playoffs all together this year.

It's been so sad watching JD these last few months.

Zambrano: Sox One of Three Teams He Would Go To
I still can't believe with all the other deficiencies this team has right now that people are still talking about adding starting pitching. About 90% of the teams in baseball would swap projected rotations with us in a tenth of a second.

I honestly don't expect Hudson to make it through 4 innings. He's more than welcome to prove me wrong, though.

Things noticed from Watching 05 ALCS on MLB Network
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 18, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) He was being sarcastic(at least I hope he was) as in all those games some huge HR's were hit..... Who cares. Wite is gay.

Rate my pic
QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 18, 2009 -> 06:47 PM) So, it's not your dad's suit? Seems awful long on you. LOL. I went to the Men's Wearhouse in the Woodfield mall. I told them I had no idea what size I wore because I had lost so much weight. They measured me and that's what they came up with. I thought it looked a little big. Oh well.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 18, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) that may be true, but how did they win game 1 & 2 of the ALDS, and games 2 & 3 of the world series??? I think what Wite meant to say was that we weren't the uber small ball team that many made us out to be that year. We were still a team reliant on the HR. Not as reliant as in other years (particularly last year), but it was still a pretty big weapon for that '05 team.

2009 AL Cy Young Race
Here's a VERY good article on why Greinke probably won't win it. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=ArAY...o&type=lgns It would be a shame. But he's the CY in my eyes. I don't care who wins it.

Sox consider shutting down Floyd and Buehrle
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 18, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) Unless Buerhle is pitching hurt, which has long been a conspiracy theory with him, I don't get shutting him down. If he has an injury, fine. If Floyd isn't healthy, fine shut him down, but if they are ready to go, let them pitch. Really, how much is it going to matter for 2010. Let the people who pay to go to the game get to watch him work. Let your young pitchers see a guy on the mound who probably doesn't have as good of stuff as they do, get major league hitters out. I've never understood shutting guys down because they might get hurt. If that's the case, should the Bulls shut Derrick Rose down after about 30 games this year when it becomes apparent they aren't going to win? He might get hurt. Good post. I never agree with shutting guys down just because you're out of it. I'm going to the game on the 26th, and I don't want to see some random scrub on the mound just because. If somenbody is hurt, fine. I can understand that. But you play the full schedule out with your best guys. No matter what.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 01:21 PM) You guys that say the NL sucks ... do you realize we just got Peavy?? Why are you assuming he'll thrive in the AL? Not a really good comparison. Peavy is right smack in his prime and has had above average peripherals across the board for years. Guys like Smoltz and Penny are WAYYYY past their prime and don't have anywhere near the stuff they once had. As I said before, it's no coincidence when these old farts look like replacement players in the AL then go on to the NL and are suddely 'reborn' a couple weeks later.
