  1. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 09:58 PM) The corpseball teams would take a dump when they played a poor team. They would play uninterested and swing for the fences and have multiple defensive gaps, and poor situation hitting against bad teams. In 2004 we had a hard time beating the crappy Tigers. They were on a record losing streak and we were playing game for game with them. Yes, we've struggled with the Royals. It makes no sense. Didn't the D-rays own the Yankees last year? I still don't buy the corpseball crap.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 09:49 PM) Yes, but that's what brought about the corpseball generation (which I never was a fan of). The offense would be rolling along, and then this point of the season would come around, and we'd score 15 runs one game, and then get shut down swinging for the fences by the likes of Joe Mays, etc. Do corpseball teams have as many comebacks, many of them miraculous, as this team has had this year? I don't see how anybody can have any complaints about the offense. Every team has games, or maybe a week, where they look flat offensively.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 09:47 PM) He didn't K anyone after the 3rd inning. Yes, he looked much better, but Uribe botching that DP didn't automatically force Casey and Granderson to get rolling curves. Mark s***s his pants whenever the defense screws up. It's been that way all year.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 09:44 PM) He looked better, but that's quite the stretch you're making. I don't think so. He was breezing through the game until that point. When has Mark ever struck out 7 in 3 innings?
  5. Horrible at-bats by Crede tonight. Fortunately, I haven't been able to say that much this year.
  6. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 09:35 PM) The fact that Mark "I will give up the lead and have turned into long ball Marky" is on the hill tomorrow makes me most nervous. Mark was a Juan Uribe botched double play away from probably throwing a complete game shutout against the Tigers. He's gonna have to be that good tomorrow. I pray the defense is good (Anderson better be in center).
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 09:33 PM) This team reminds me of the 2002-2004 White Sox in so many ways. If there was ever a time to bring out the terms tinkering and corpseball, it was tonight. I just can't agree with the "corpseball" nonsense. Our offense has been dominant. We're on pace to score something like 200 more runs than we did last year. We're either at the top or close to the top of every major offensive category. This team is hitting well over .300 with RISP. Yes. We sucked hard last night and tonight. Yes. We had that two week funk coming back from the break. Besides that, the offense has been as good as it gets.
  8. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 09:29 PM) Even if such a miraculous event would occur, I've learned this season not to select individual moments which may propel ourselves into a "rhythm." I think I agree with you. I can't count how many times I've said to myself "yes, this is gonna be the play or game that sparks our run."
  9. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) what an embarrassing game I bet if we come back a bit then we'll kick some ass tomorrow I can't come up with the words to describe how big tomorrow is. We CAN'T lose 3 of 4 to these guys, especially with a very tough roadtrip coming up. Mark needs to DOMINATE tomorrow. f*** the quality start stuff.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) Hawk's basically calling us paper champions. People need to stop calling Hawk a homer. He has been VERY critical of this team this season. I like it.
  11. Neal's ERA goes from 3.09 to 3.64. And he's pitched much worse than that for a while now. Who would've thought Thornton >>> Cotts before the season started?
  12. Is it just me, or has Neal Cotts been the most dissapointing one of our pitchers (outside of the starters of course) this year? He was the one guy -- along with Jenks -- that I felt really good about this year out of our bullpen.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) Gotta love how the Twins 8 and 9 hitters are both 3-3. Bartlett is batting .366. Funny thing is our 8 and 9 hitters have been on fire for a while now. I have no idea why they weren't playing tonight.
  14. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) come on, Cotts is struggling, but don't give him the Damaso comp. Hard to tell the difference these days. His ERA is in no way an indication of how he's pitched of late.
  15. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 09:09 PM) who carpped the bed? Jose. He wasn't foolin' anybody tonight. The offense has been in a coma as well.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 09:06 PM) The last thing I want to see happen is head to Minnesota tied for the WC. True.
  17. Tigers lose. That makes tonight's debacle hurt double.
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 08:59 PM) We have been near the top of scoring runs, homers and stuff like that before. Our offense from 2001 through 2004 was statistically a great team. Since the asb our team has been trying to hit the dong a bit too much. How many times over the last few weeks have we had a no hitter going into the 4th or 5th inning. How many times have we only had a few hits going into the 5th inning. Yes. We had that two week offensive funk after the break. They came out of it at the start of that last series with the O's. Last night and tonight are the only games you can really complain about offensively since that time.
  19. Man I wish my car wasn't in the shop right now. I seriously need to hit the bars tonight. This is just pathetic.
  20. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 08:49 PM) Well that was horrible. So let me get this straight. We get different players every year. New blood. Yet we see the same offensive attack. Carlos Lee swung for the fences in 2004 ignoring RISP and going for personal glory. Here we are in 2006 and its the same thing. Beat up on a team one night, then struggle to scratch a run across. Maybe we need to stop teaching the pull and lift method. We've sucked pretty bad the last couple games. But I think you're going a little overboard now. You don't lead or almost lead the league in every major offensive catergory if you're not capable of hitting with RISP or using the entire field.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) Well...that was a perfect example of what's wrong with this team. Our speed guy can't score from first with 2 outs on a double. Meanwhile, some of our other hitters look physically and mentall fatigued. Could Pods have realistically scored on Paul's double? We've had more guys thrown at home this year that I can ever remember in my 16 years of being a Sox fan.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 08:30 PM) These fans are definitely fiesty. I like to hear the frustration. They deserve it tonight.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 08:27 PM) I just had a sickening feeling seeing that Jason Grilli has a better ERA than any of our starters this year. He's only pitched like 30 innings this year.
  24. QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 08:27 PM) i believe we are in bigger trouble than they are Like I said, I would say they're in trouble, but we seem incapable of going on a run of our own. Therefore it won't matter.
