  1. Verlander got rocked again. I see he walked 7 guys. He's finally hit that 'wall' we so often hear about when it comes to rookie pitchers. I would say the Tigers are in trouble. Too bad we seem incapable of going on an extended run.
  2. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 08:20 PM) Just sat down and saw this score and was sure it was a mistake. Is Contreras really that bad tonight? Remember how good he was against Detroit? Think the complete and total opposite of that.
  3. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) I realize they're not a pushover offensively. But 7 runs? Considering Contreras hasn't had trouble against the Royals in the past, this performance is unexpected. No excuses, here. Battling the Royals in games you NEED to win -- or in the least, keep fairly close -- pitching games such as tonight doesn't lend hope to "finding a rhythm." Oh I agree. I can't stress how pissed off and dissapointed I am in Jose right now. I just wanted to point out that it's not like the Royals haven't been doing this to a lot of guys of late. I even believe they've gotten to Johan Santana a couple times.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) I just hate that Jose got slapped around without using his best pitch. I think he forgets sometimes how great his forkball is. I hate not feeling confident about anyone of our guys from start to start. Jose was the one guy I felt good about. Not so much anymore.
  5. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) Absolutely embarrassing. Someone tell me -- do aces typically surrender 7 runs to the Kansas City Royals? I'm not trying to defend Jose. He was bad. But the Royals can swing the bats. They've got to be 1 or 2 in runs scored since Andre David became their hitting coach.
  6. You can pretty much throw out any momentum we gained from sweeping the Tigers. This is just brutal.
  7. Frank with another solid game. 1/2 with an RBI single and two BB. The A's are looking mighty good of late. Although they've been feasting on a bad Mariners team.
  8. Dodgers win again. This time it's Chad Billingsley with a 3-hit gem over 7 innings. They're gonna be a nightmare to play come October.
  9. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:16 AM) I think you might be getting a little too into his defense. I don't think so. His defense has been spectacular.
  10. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 03:49 AM) Now THAT would just be wrong....however unless we win the Central, the only way we'd see Oakland in the playoffs is if they win a playoff series, and Billy Beane IS their GM, so that won't happen. What exactly does Billy Beane being their GM have to do with their failures in the postseason? They were up 2-1 on NY in 2000 before losing in 5. They were up 2-0 on NY in 2001 going back to Oakland before choking again. They were up 2-1 on the Twins in 2002 and blew that. They were up 2-1 on the Red Sox in 2003 before, surprise, losing that series. That's more of a reflection on the manager/players than it is Beane.
  11. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 12:05 AM) I'll say this. This means that Frank Thomas has done it as well since he and Rowand worked out together ALOT during the off-season when they were teammates. It does?
  12. Dodgers win again. Make that 16/17. Their rotation and 'pen has simply dominated during this stretch.
  13. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 11:35 PM) Great win. I watched TV and after a scoreless tie after 3 including the play where Pauley got caught off third on the hard grounder it looked like we might play sloppy and get beat. Not quite. Blowout. I hope the team forgets it and gets a good nite's sleep or good n drunk and sleep's in and takes care of business in game 2. We really need to win all of these if we can heading into the next road trip. Wish Boston coulda keep Det. slumping. That sucks Det. went into Boston and kicked some butt. We did extend our WC lead to 3.
  14. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) Hernandez has been crap for a while now. The one guy I worried about this series was the guy we saw tonight, being a soft-tossing lefty and all. Any word on who the Royals starter for the finale will be? Yup. I was worried about tonight as well. Redmen threw a pretty good game against us last time. Now that we've won this game, and you consider the pitching matchups the rest of the series, I'll actually be dissapointed if we don't sweep.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 10:35 PM) Personally though if i had to take a choice of young OF's in mlb id take Nick Markakis over Brian. I just love watching that kid play. I've haven't seen too much of him outside of when the O's play the White Sox. He's pretty good from what I've seen. I'll go with Brian, though.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) I wouldnt call him a future allstar but a pretty damn good player and i guess maybe 1-2 allstar appearances if all goes right. He has a lot of power that we havent seen yet that I think will come out next season. It's like night and day when you look at Brian now compared to April and May. His at-bats are mostly all quality now. He's actually been hitting the ball a lot better than even his .300 average since July 1 would suggest. He had a stetch for a while where he was hitting ropes all over the place. They were just right at people. I agree with you about his power. He's easily capable of hitting atleast 20 home runs. Combine that with his speed and breath-taking defense out in center, it won't be long before he's considered all-star caliber, IMO.
  17. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 10:09 PM) BA helping that OBP. I Brian Anyone catch his interview with Chuck Garfine (sp?) Classic.. BTW, Garland was outstanding. I didn't see that interview, but I've seen other interviews with Brian, whether it be on TV or the radio, and he's just one big goof. I think that's why I like him so much. He's just a regular goofy dude.
  18. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) Very impressed with BA today, he now has his average at .225. He's hitting like .300 or something like that since July first. I knew patience would pay off in his case. This kid can seriously play. He'll be all-star caliber by '08.
  19. Not much to like about this game. Oh, and Brian Anderson is pretty good.
  20. Javy has a 1.59 era in 3 starts (2 wins) against the Royals this year.
  21. I just read on a Mets' board that Pedro is headed to the DL and could be out for quite a while. That's a big, big blow for the Mets. Their pitching is suspect as it is. Anything less than Pedro at or damn near close to 100% come playoff time, and the Mets are in trouble.
  22. Make that 5-0 Tigers. Josh Beckett is really good.
  23. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 06:16 PM) He is saying he hopes they don't go after Pierre, I believe. I'm an idiot. My bad, Keith.
  24. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) So in other words, he's most likely a future fourth OFer. Hopefully he can learn to play CF a little bit better, too, as he'd be pretty useless if he can only play LF. I also hope the Sox aim a little higher than another version of Scott Podsednik over the next couple years (like going after Chone Figgins or Juan Pierre). I much prefer the Curtis Granderson type leadoff man (similar OBP, similar batting average, but more slugging) to the slap hitting types. What the? Juan Pierre? What exactly does he do better than Pods?
  25. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 11:19 AM) I don't know about the 2005 White Sox as a top team of the last 25 years. The '93 Blue Jays should be mentioned (and ahead of the White Sox). That team was loaded with talent. We had a better rotation and 'pen than they had in '93. Their offense was sick, though.
