Started watching House of Cards on Netflix. Great show. Also, the last two Mad Med episodes have been awesome. The vitamin shot episode created some of the funnier moments in the past few seasons. When Don went bolting past one door of the breakroom before causually walking in the other door was hilarious.
  2. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 28, 2013 -> 10:15 AM) Guys like Flowers and Jones, aren't guys you wait on. Maybe you don't wait on Flowers much longer, but you definitely wait for and work with Jones.
  3. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 28, 2013 -> 09:29 AM) You win no trophies developing the Tyler Flowers and Nate Jones' of the world. Their either good when you need them or you move on. So teams should never try to develop players, right? They should just go out and get players that can perform now, and never worry about the future. Sure, makes sense.
  4. LHS = Left-Handed Serpent?
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 21, 2013 -> 09:09 AM) Death toll jumps from 91 down to 24, not really sure how that happens. Apparently the coroner's office counted some casualties multiple times amidst the confusion. Of the now 24, seven are children. Better news, but still terrible.
  6. With Peavy's performance so far, he's a bargain. A short, relatively team friendly contract for a guy who pitches like he does has got to be enticing to other teams. If the Sox end up trading him, they should get a very nice return.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 16, 2013 -> 11:16 AM) Did you hang up and listen for your answer? No, I stayed on the line so all of the other listeners would hear an echo.
  8. I didn't realize how good Peavy has been this year. If the Sox are out of it come the trade deadline, does he get traded? And if so, what kind of return could he get?
  9. Dunn 3-4 with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs. Who is this guy?
  10. Keppinger's performance (or lack thereof) will probably make for an easy decision when Beckham comes back. Gillaspie deserves to see the bulk of starts at 3B.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) If he earns it, the White Sox have no problem paying their own players. Look what they did with Ramirez. I imagine Viciedo is going to be paid well come contract time. I know we keep saying it, but he's young, has a ton of power, and a lot of potential. He may never be a .280+ hitter, but he could hit 30+ HRs a year for a long time.

Finally watched Silver Linings Playbook. Outstanding. I can see why Jennifer Lawrence won the Oscar.

I'm a couple episodes behind, but I'm really enjoying Bates Motel.
  14. I found The Great Gatsby to be boring when I was forced to read it in high school. I don't know if I'd feel differently now...I have no desire to read it again. When I was a junior in high school, my literature teacher had us read a book by Stephen King. We could pick whatever we wanted. I read Pet Semetary. He said it was as important to read King as it was was to read classic earlier works.
  15. There's no doubt he's been better since he apparently made this adjustment. His contact rate is much higher. He's still getting out a lot, especially hitting into the shift, but he's striking out less. He's got a long way to go to get his numbers up. Hopefully we'll see a hitter similar to the 2012 Dunn from now on.
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 3, 2013 -> 02:21 AM) I hope when AJ comes to play in the Cell he gets a standing O. He should and he will...for his first at bat. Then he's just that jerk who plays for the Rangers. I don't think you'll ever hear Sox fans boo him like the piss poor fans in Cleveland did to Thome, or like the Twins' fans do to AJ now.
  17. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ May 2, 2013 -> 01:55 PM) I disagree that it is a problem. Maybe it's a conflict of interest. I think most of the posters are in unison with what they want. Gillaspie against RHPs Keppinger against LHPs Keppinger would get some starts at 2B and provide for some competition and a fire under Beckham. Keppinger can also play LF for Viciedo against a crafty pitcher. Who is hitting second Alexei or Beckham? I see your point. Choice of words, I guess. But it's nice that the Sox have an issue like this vs. other issues they've had to deal with so far. Gillaspie has been a pleasant surprise.
  18. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ May 2, 2013 -> 01:43 PM) Responding to the thread/thread title - How could Gillaspie possibly be a problem? Well, he creates a problem by forcing the Sox to make a decision about what to do with him, Keppinger, and Beckham. It's a good problem, but a problem nonetheless.
  19. With the death of the Catch All thread, I figured I'd start a new thread to talk about a problem that the Sox will be facing soon. What to do with Conor Gillaspie? Beckham will be returning soon, and unless he's relegated to the bench, someone else is going to be the odd man out. Will that be Keppinger or Gillaspie? Or is it Beckham? In my mind, the Sox have to keep Gillaspie in the lineup most of the time. He's proven (so far) to be a guy who can play third every day. He hits well with some moderate power, and his defense has been great. I just have a bad feeling that he'll end up back on the bench at least 50% of the time while Beckham is rolled out there every day. Gillaspie may end up being platooned with Keppinger, and on paper they make a perfect platoon team. But you have to consider the development of Gillaspie and what he adds to the team. As far as Beckham goes, during one of Hawk's ramblings the other day he said that he sees Beckham as the team leader when Konerko retires/moves on. Steve Stone didn't really respond, maybe because he was thinking the same thig I was: If he doesn't play better, he won't be around to be the leader. Thoughts?
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 2, 2013 -> 10:33 AM) Wow. So quick to turn on the guy. AJ does what he can to help his team - if he stuck his elbow out to get on base, so be it. No big f***ing deal. The guy rocks. Absolutely. How many times did he do that in a Sox uniform? Many players do this to help the team out, and as you said, he'll do just about anything.
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:57 AM) Hawk always defends AJ as he has been friends with the family since AJ was in high school. AJ was disliked by almost everyone. Hate is too strong of a word. They tolerated a good baseball player but didn't like him. Do you know this? Have you talked to his teammeates? I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm actually curious. We've all heard that he's a jerk, but I've not seen one White Sox player say anything but positive things about him.
  22. I don't think AJ was drilled because he's AJ. He got drilled because he was up to bat when Reed decided to either throw at the batter or throw inside. If there truly was a retaliation in response to Dunn getting hit, then 2 outs in the ninth with a three run lead is a good time to do it. AJ just happened to be the batter. And enough with the AJ is hated s***. He played for the Sox for eight seasons and was extended a couple times. There's no doubt that his teammates respected him. He might very well be a jerk, and the argument when he was on the Sox was that he was our jerk. Now he's the Rangers' jerk. Regardless, I am sure there are guys on the Sox right now that still respect him
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 1, 2013 -> 11:13 AM) Except Axelrod's not going to fetch much of anything in trade. Other teams would be much more likely to target Peavy, Quintana and Santiago. That's obvious, especially Peavy. Quintana has done pretty well this season, but he still has his doubters. And there are definitely plenty who feel Santiago will get exposed after seeing opposing batters 2-3 times per game or throwing 75+ pitches. However, he did well as a starter in September after we were out of it and he was great until being forced into the game for Floyd the other day. Peavy, Rios and Ramirez are the best trade chips at the moment. However, trading Rios or Ramirez means we're surrendering completely. Axelrod could be a starter for the Sox for a while. I agree he doesn't have much trade value, but he has potential value as a young, decent pitcher who could play for the Sox for quite a few years. If the Sox are out of it at the deadline, or if they're in it and need a position player, I could see Peavy or Floyd getting dealt.
  24. It is pretty amazing that they are 10-15. I haven't been able to watch many games, but the ones I've seen have been horrible...and that includes a few games that they won. The biggest problem, in my opinion, is the offense. The starting pitching has been pretty good and the bullpen has been great (aside from a few hiccups). The defense has been dissapointing, despite some fantastic glovework from Gillaspie and Ramirez. But the offense...ugh. They have to get better, right? How much better is the real question. Luckily they are only 5 games back. But, another couple weeks of lackluster baseball, and we could know what it's felt like to be be a Pirates fan for the past 20 years (last season excluded).

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) I'll be watching the finale tonight. And there is 0% chance that I'll ever watch that godawful show again. Why watch the finale then?
