Let's talk about Adam Dunn destinations
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 06:16 PM) I don't know about "deadly." You could look at it another way and say he'll ruin that lineup if he gets in one of his patented strikeout funks. Their professional hitters are probably not used to seeing such ineptitude on a fairly frequent basis. It's going to be great to rebuild and not have Dunn around anymore. First off, ineptitude is not the correct word. Ineptitude is the act of being inept, and inept is defined as awkward, clumsy, or incompetent. Dunn isn't inept, he's streaky. He's always been a three outcome hitter, and earlier this year he was striking out a lot more than usual. But over the last couple months, he's been a pretty damn good hitter. He's on pace for 44 HRs...that's not inept. Secondly, your last sentence contradicts the rest of your post. You essentially say he won't be traded because he'll "ruin" a "professional" lineup. Then you say it'll be great to rebuild without Dunn. I don't think Dunn will be traded, so we'll have to watch a rebuild with a guy who can hit 40+ HRs.

2013 TV Thread
QUOTE (farmteam @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 09:48 PM) Was that actually said, or are you surmising it from the first episode? There's something going on there, could be Asperger's. It wasn't mentioned in the first episode, but there were several articles about it, including this one: http://tvline.com/2013/07/10/the-bridge-pr...uger-aspergers/

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 11:13 PM) Tomorrow, for my birthday, they will have traded Lexi and Crain for Matt Adams. I was watching a bit of the Cubs/Cards game yesterday, and my first thought when I saw Adams was "He'd be awesome on the Sox." Looks like a young Adam Dunn, but so far at least it looks like he can hit for average better. The Cubs announcers were saying that the getting him enough playing time has been a struggle for the Cards. I think the Sox could give him plenty of playing time.

Hey, it's an afternoon game . . .
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) The Sox had no problems scoring runs this series. I think it's the Phegley Ephect.

Rosenthal: Sox should market Sale
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 10:09 AM) I'd bet money you are wrong. He will get a major league contract with a team option for a second year if I had bet. Would a team sign him for a major league contract if he's not going to pitch until July? I'm not being sarcastic...would a team do this?
-
Rosenthal: Sox should market Sale
Oh boy. My first thought is hell no, you don't trade Sale. He's under team control for quite a while with a pretty friendly contract. You can build around this guy. The rotation next year could be Sale, Danks, Quintana, Santiago, and another guy (Floyd?). That's pretty good. However, after reading this thread and the posts by members more informed than me, I can see the rationale behind trading Sale for an absolute haul. But it would have to be just that, a haul of epic proportions. I don't know much about other teams' prospects, but I've looked up a few that have been mentioned here. The Sox could put themselves in a position to compete for years. Overall, though, I'd like to see Sale stay.

2013 TV Thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 01:48 PM) How is no one trying to find out how to get out of there? Why does that kid use a generator to power up cell phones when gas and electricity are finite resources? Why are people using cars when they know their air is limited and the smoke from the fire is trapped inside the dome? Why did a cop go crazy for absolutely no reason? All things normal people would do if a gigantic dome appeared over their community. Has anyone read the book? I hope it was a lot better than the show. The book, of course, is better. But they've changed a lot already, and I see the series going in a completely different direction. If I turn my brain off, and especially stop comparing it to the book, I find the series to be at least entertaining.

Red Sox interested in Thornton
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 09:58 PM) We'll see if teams value that. If Thornton throws that hard, it's straight as an arrow because nobody has trouble hitting him. He also walks people. In my opinion, he's the definition of a very bad relief pitcher. Like fathom or somebody said the other day, he should be a guy who comes in to face one lefty and get him the hell out of there. Situational lefty vs. lefty. He's hardly a very bad relief pitcher. He's not the same pitcher he was, but he still has a decent fastball that when used properly with his slider can be effective. I don't think the Sox will get much for him, but there will be teams in need for a guy like him.

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 10:37 PM) Well, it's time to apologize to Rios. Six hits in a 9-inning game? Ties AL record? Sets all kind of marks tonight. Holy s***, what a game for Rios. I apologize to him for ripping him a lot again this season. Well, it should be much easier to trade him anywhere now. Seriously. A game like that shows scouts he could be valuable IMO. To get six hits in a game and explode like that has to make contending teams take notice that Rios might win you a lot of games down the stretch if he's focused like that. Tonight proved several things. 1.) Rios is an enigma with a lot of talent and 2.) Viciedo may be one of those guys who needs to be pushed (benched when he f***s up) to bring out his ability. Two homers?? Where'd that come from? And 3.) The Sox are capable of playing much better than they have this season from hell. One outstanding game by Rios isn't going to change his value much. Other GMs are not going to be looking at July 9 as what they will get for Rios. They're going to look at his overall performance this year and probably last year. He's never had 6 hits in a 9 inning game before, and chances are he never will again. It's just like the thread about Dunn (Dunn?). Like clockwork, that thread jumps to the top of the page after he has a bad game and strikes out three times or has a good game and gets three hits. One game doesn't matter. When it comes to a player's value it's how they perform overall. That being said, I'd be surprised if Rios isn't traded. I don't know what the Sox can get for him, but hopefully some decent talent. Also, I'd be ust as surprised if Dunn is traded. There's a limited market for a guy like him, but his market may have expanded a bit with him playing a lot of games at first base.

The continuing fall and decline of PHT.
QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 08:37 AM) I don't know what a "pittshoganerkoff" is, but I've really enjoyed saying that out loud for many years. That was a mod responding to a slightly hammered post requesting ideas for a new screen name. I mentioned I was a Konerko fan, orginally from Pittsburgh, and my last name is Hogan. The new name just stuck...or I was too afraid to ask for another one. Who knows what they'd give me.

The continuing fall and decline of PHT.
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 02:12 AM) Great post. It's fun to root for the Sox, I wish I could celebrate with you, but the crazy s*** the team has pulled the past 3-4 seasons has been almost too much to bear. I know I should enjoy Dunn's bomb tonight but he's so bad most of the time that it's tough to forget that. I hate to be that guy who ruins it for everybody but it's really hard to root for this team because of the insane ways it loses games. Dunn is a tough one to root for or against. He's actually been pretty good over the past month or so, but we've seen this streakiness since he's donned the Sox uniform. However, I never get the impression that he's not trying. Overall, I like him, but I just wish he'd be a bit better. The team, however, has found just about every way to lose this year. And that is very frustrating. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching my son's little league team when I see the mistakes these guys make. Winning like they did last night has been such a rare occasion that our first impulse is to jump on here and celebrate. Well, why not? I think we can all agree that this is not the year for the Sox (although Hawk, in talking to Peavy last night, insinuated that the season's not over because we haven't played the Tigers yet). I'm frustrated as hell with this team, but I still watch and cheer. Dunn's bomb last night was a thing of beauty as was Danks' effort on the mound. I for one am going to enjoy the wins and the great plays and the homeruns. I'm also going to be a little sad and excited at the same time when 3, 4, or even 6 guys are moved over the next month. The 2014 Sox are going to look a lot different than the 2013 Sox, and I'll be cheering for that team, too. On a side note, I'm going to tonight's game, so these bums better win.

I'm going to the game tomorrow, and if they don't win I'm going to jump on this board and pick a fight with Greg.

Keppinger to Yanks?
I think 3B can be handled okay by Gillaspie or a platoon of Gillaspie and maybe Morel. Beckham needs to play every day at 2B. If the Sox can get at least something back for Keppinger, I say go for it. It's only a small chunk of change, but money is money when you're looking at an overhaul.

The continuing fall and decline of PHT.
I believe J4L is now sitting back in his chair, fingers tented, saying, "Excellent." Seriously, though, the game threads are essentially as good as the actual games. Therefore, the game threads this season have not been very good. And with the dissolving of the catch all thread, there has been an increase in the number of threads that are not very good. We're all frustrated with this team, and there is no doubt that we (I say "we" as the board as a whole) take out our frustrations on each other. The one little thing that bothers us about a certain poster gets magnified by the fact that the Sox got swept by the Indians...at home. I've been a member for nine years, and although I didn't post much for seven of those years, I still read a lot. There has been a definite downturn in the quality and overall comradery. This year it certainly seems worse, and again I blame the way the Sox have been playing. There is much more jumping to conclusions and personal attacks when the team sucks.

Jesse Crain dealt to Tampa Bay
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 01:12 AM) I'm assuming contenders will be shipping us prospects. So I think my prediction of two former 10th rounders is about right for Crain. I mean you can't believe a team will give up hot-shot prospects for a 33-year-old reliever. He's 31, not 33. And he's one of the best relievers in the game right now. I doubt Hahn will give him away for a couple former 10th rounders. I would expect at least one hot prospect back for him.

Sox Will Sell; Everyone But Sale and Konerko on Block
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 05:55 PM) Do NOT panic people No one is panicking. I'm sure panic would ensue if Hahn said he wasn't going to be trading.

Bagheads
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 12:58 PM) I know they do but I always laugh when I see them on TV. I mean come on, imagine trying to eat with one of those things on. Get a heavy, industrial bag. Line the insides with food and beer.

Mets @ White Sox in "A GAME OF LOLS"
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 12:09 AM) You guys overreact to everything I say, but YES AJ woulda kicked some ass after that play. Or HE would have taken command, not leaving it up to Reed. If you watch the replay, Flowers is just standing there like a statue. p.s. If you read my original AJ post you will see it does not overreact like some have to me. Read it closely. Tell me MY POST makes no sense. Cheap shot, fathom. The last person to be making that play would be the catcher. If AJ was still here, he would have been doing the same thing Flowers was...standing at the plate in case there was a play there. That play was all Beckham's fault. There was no reason at all he should have been over there. That was like when Manny Ramirez turned himself into a cutoff man when the ball was thrown by a guy 15 feet away.

Letting AJ walk was dumb idea
Any team that gets hot, like the Blackhawks did, will be followed heavily in this city. Well, aside from the Cubs and Sox as the true fans for each team wouldn't jump on the other bandwagon. But you cannot argue that the number of bandwagon fans outnumber the number of true Hawks fans right now. There are more true Bulls and Bears fan than true Blackhawks fans. Part of that is the fact that hockey is harder to follow than football, basketball, and baseball. The game is extremely fast-paced, and there are a lot of rules people don't understand. Many people who have been following hockey throughout the playoffs were doing so because a Chicago team was playing very well and had a chance to win a championship, not because they were hockey fans.

Letting AJ walk was dumb idea
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 08:47 AM) lol@greg pretending to be a hardcore blackhawks fan. Only hockey you ever watched before this year were the Mighty Ducks movies. Don't knock the Flying V, man!

Letting AJ walk was dumb idea
Is AJ better than Flowers? Yes. Does Flowers seem like a bust? Yes. Would having AJ on the team this year take the Sox from 10.5 games under .500 to 4 games over .500? What the hell is wrong with you? One guy, no matter who it is, wouldn't have made much of a difference to this team. Holding on to AJ would have cost about $7 or $8 million, and the Sox might be a couple games better. Then he would have been traded at the deadline...for next to nothing. The Sox don't need to look to the past and wish they had kept AJ. They need to look to the future and figure out what to do about the catcher spot.

2013 TV Thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) I find Falling Skies to be a fun summer show, and it has Dr. Wilson now. The plot isn't bad, either. My wife and I enjoy it. And yes, it's nice to see Dr. Wilson again.
