Sox sign Hendriks: 3/$39M - 4th year optional with $15M buyout
I see a lot of comments about this signing being too much money...not so much on here but on Twitter. Colome's salary last season was $10.5MM. Hendriks is going to be paid an average of $13MM a year over the next three years. If the Sox hold on to him for a fourth year, he'll make $15MM. If not, it's $1.5MM a year for 10 years. In my mind, this is not a bad deal at all for probably the best available reliever on the market. To get the best, you have to shell out some dough.

This is a really nice signing. Hendriks is the guy we've heard they've been targeting, and he makes the bullpen one of the best in baseball, especially from the 7th inning on.

2020 Election Thoughts
Could be a big week. The House will apparently begin impeachment proceedings today if Trump either doesn't resign or Pence doesn't enact the 25th. I don't see either happening, so Trump will most likely become the first president to be impeached twice. I still have my doubts he'll be convicted, but you'd think there would be 18+ republicans who would put the country before Trump. They really have nothing to lose at this point.

The Ball Doctor
Either that or a porno. "I can see that you're not feeling well, ma'am. What you need is a visit from The Ball Doctor." *zipper unzips*

Trump could do something no president has ever done before: Be impeached twice.

Travel MLB
Other than the Rate: Wrigley, Progressive Field, Great American Ballpark, Miller Park. Miller Park is nice, but the Great American Ballpark is awesome. Huge concourses, lots of food and beverage choices, and nice views. We had seats about 4 rows from the field just past first base. One of the better times at a baseball game...topped off by a Scott Schebler walk off HR. Progressive Field is okay. Similar to Guarantee Rate Field, really. And Wrigley...well.

2020 Election Thoughts
Seriously, what do cabinet members and Pence have to lose by invoking the 25th and removing Trump? If they're concerned about being out of the good graces of Trump and his supporters, they don't have their priorities straight.

2020 Election Thoughts
January 20 cannot get here soon enough. Trump remaining in office for another two weeks is extremely dangerous to this country. Incidents like yesterday will continue to occur. More people will die, more people will get hurt. The 25th amendment is the quickest way to do something, but I will be very surprised if anything happens.

2020 Election Thoughts
So true. We're already forgetting about the 100+ representatives and senators who signed on to the ridiculous Texas lawsuit. None of them were held accountable. We're already shrugging our shoulders about the reps and senators who continued to object to the certification last night. How long before we remember yesterday as not such a big deal?

2020 Election Thoughts
I have friends and some family members that have always been conservatives and were Trump supporters, some even posting on social media agreeing with Trump about the election being rigged and stolen. However, I've not heard a peep from them since yesterday. I honestly don't know if I could continue to associate with anyone who still supports Trump after yesterday. There are plenty of good people who are conservative, and there are some of them in Congress. But the Republican party has become the party of Trump, and I don't know how their reputation can be repaired.

2020 Election Thoughts
The entire Trump presidency has been bad, and history will not look kindly on it. But yesterday was on another level. This will be a day that people will read about 10-15 years down the road and have a hard time believing it happened.

I was listening to this as I was getting ready for work. He's usually loud and brash, but he was REALLY pissed this morning.

2020 Election Thoughts
A lot more talk last night and this morning on news outlets about the police (or some of them anyway) being involved in the incident yesterday. There's plenty of video evidence of the police either letting the mob in or not trying to stop them. It's frustrating because everyone knew this was coming. The police were either not prepared or the planning was lax on purpose. Now four people are dead and there is a huge black mark in history. On a side note, Morning Joe went on a tirade this morning on MSNBC and dropped the F-bomb, saying that the police just opened the fucking doors for the mob. I'm sure there's a suspension coming, but he's right to be infuriated.

2020 Election Thoughts
At this point, the only course of action is to end Trump's reign now. Enact the 25th, arrest him, put him a bunker without his phone...something.

2020 Election Thoughts
Exactly. I don't think we can really be surprised by what is happening. Trump incited this, and he needs to be held responsible.

2020 Election Thoughts
Probably. The next two years will be critical for the Biden administration to get stuff done. If the GOP is wise, they will need to push Trump out of the picture and start to rebuild some of their reputation. Trump did a lot of damage to the party. If they continue to support his conspiracy theory rantings, they may not be able to regain control of the Senate in 2022.

2020 Election Thoughts
Most polling and predictions had the Democrats taking control of the Senate and increasing their lead in the House. On general election day, neither happened, and things were looking a bit grim. But winning both Senate seats in Georgia is a massive win for the Democrats. Not only does it give them the majority in the Senate, but the state has effectively flipped blue. I do believe, however, that Trump and his merry band of dunces really hurt their chances in these special elections. The one person at the center of what has happened is Georgia is Stacey Abrams. She has done a remarkable job, and as I saw someone tweet yesterday, Biden should put her in charge of everything: Vaccine rollout, get out the vote, major league baseball...

Madrigal could be ready for opening day
I see Soxtalk is Soxtalking. Madrigal has played a grand total of 29 games and has had 109 plate appearances at the major league level...and we're writing him off as garbage because he made a few rookie mistakes. He batted .340 in those 109 plate appearances and played a pretty good second base. Maybe we give him a full season before deciding he's trash.

2020 Election Thoughts
I think the most realistic outcome is a split, unfortunately. Regardless, I don't think we know anything for a couple days. Early and mail-in voting was huge, so it's going to take a while to get everything counted.

2020 Election Thoughts
I grew up watching professional wrestling, and I remember during Andre The Giant's heel turn he was wrestling The Junkyard Dog in France. Andre won by pinning the Junkyard Dog, using the ropes for additional leverage (as if he needed it). The audience politely chastised Andre The Giant by wagging their finger in a "that's naughty" fashion. Right now, Trump and his followers are Andre The Giant, and the Democrats are the polite French audience. When is someone going to be held responsible for their actions? They just seated the new Representatives, including quite a few that signed on to the ridiculous lawsuit Texas brought against other states. They weren't held responsible. They weren't called out. Tomorrow is going to be a shitshow that won't change anything, but there are at least 10 senators that will refuse to certify the election. And after the inauguration, they'll still be in the senate, working to derail everything Biden will try to do. Trump is going to refuse to leave the White House. The secret service has a plan that unfortunately does not include dragging him out of the building. They're going to close the building and not let anyone in and begin shutting off utilities. Chances are, Trump and his cronies will inflict physical damage in the White House. And again, the Democrats will be the parent in the mall ignoring their screaming child who is throwing a tantrum because they can't have a pretzel. It's just frustrating, because in a civilian job, Trump and his followers would be fired and possibly charged with crimes. And we're just watching, waiting for him to go away.

Comparing Sox young guys to past players
I can easily see him being a perennial .330 hitter with 40+ HRs each season. Gotta stay healthy, though. Stop running into walls, nets, other players...

Dodgers sign Bauer (3/102, opt-outs, 40-45-17)
I thought his trolling of Heyman was humorous. We see/hear the media always speculating and/or reporting about players' demands in free agency, but we rarely if ever see the players saying anything. Bauer may actually be looking for 5-6 years at $30M+, but that does go against the type of contracts he's looked for in the past. I still think he signs for a short deal (1-2 years) at $30M+ per. That still probably keeps the Sox from actively pursuing him, though. But, that would be a lot of attitude on one team. Add Puig and you'd have a virtual powder keg. ?

Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread
I'm not necessarily buying that either. They could actually afford both Hendriks and Brantley now even after signing Eaton. It would be a stretch for this team to spend like that, but to say they signed Eaton to save money for Hendriks doesn't ring true. However, if they end up signing Hendriks, I'll be happy. It's just that the signing of Eaton came so fast when there were other options out there for RF.

Blake Snell and Yu Darvish traded to San Diego
Yeah, I was thinking the overall feeling would be unsupportive of two big moves that deplete your farm. However, the win-now attitude is appealing. We just haven't seen that from this team.
