QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) On a small scale, how you survive a disaster or life threatening situation, is your attitude. I believe that is magnified on this scale. A very big part of what President Bush can do today is ease fears. He can assure the victims that are fearing physical violence that he is taking action and that criminals will be dealt with. He can boost the moral of the workers and volunteers that are working around the clock in filth and death. He can look the directors and the government people in the eye and say, Do it! In this case he is a cheerleader and damn important one. in my book it's four days too late

great he's talking to people. what does that accomplish? talk means s*** without action.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 12:24 PM) In what post? I've been pointing out that while the negative gets the headlines, we should also know that thousands of volunteers, like yourself, are working around the clock to help people. That humans are for the most part, generous and peaceful, and come together in a tragedy. If you wish to think that the looters are the norm, go for it. But out of the 500,000+ effective, do you believe there are 100,000 muggers, snipers, and rapists? 250,000? And yes, I did mention these crimes will happen tonight in Chicago. Trying to show a little context. These are in many cases the same criminals that would have been committing violent crimes without a hurricane. To believe that the hurricane, and the aftermath, turned law abiding persons suddenly into rapists and murderers is wrong. It did turn law abiding persons into petty thieves if you believe taking water and food off store shelves to survive is stealing. now the crazy thing about this argument we're having is that i agree 100% with everything you said in this post. i've just been royally pissed off by what i've been seeing and hearing. i'm glad you can manage to stay optimistic in times like these cuz it's not something i'm great at. People do come together in a tragedy and i'm sure there are people down there working their asses off - harder than they've ever worked in their lives - to help. i just cant believe the inept-ness of our government to do anything to really help out. so hopefully we're both on the same page and we can stop this stupid argument when obviously there are more important things going on.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) And if I posted that you would have said so WTF? not true man, it just seems to me that you've been trying to downplay the seriousness of whats going on down there. and you have been - saying that killing etc happens anyway. i'm pretty sure ANARCHY doesnt happen on a regular basis in NO

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 12:11 PM) Just another news story? I am not. What I do know, as someone that puts a lot of hours in every year as a volunteer, that during a crisis, volunteers are everywhere and doing a hell of a lot more than posting on a message board. What you have decided to block out are the individuals that have opened their homes to shelter people. People who have taken in strangers and given them rides. People sharing their resources. Those stories are as much about this as the criminals. And I don't think I have to remind anyone here that those same crimes happened in NO before the hurricane. People were getting killed, drugs deals, stealing. That's happening in Chicago tonight. National Geographic had this one pegged a long time ago. dude, my school, Loyola Chicago - is opening its doors to students from Loyola New Orleans. they'll be sleeping in my dorm. i'm not blocking that s*** out I'M DOING IT.

guys what the hell? ok fine maybe their are FEWER bad guys than good, but it's still a disgusting and horrible situation where there are bands of men driving around in trucks with f***ING AK-47s shooting at police and choppers. there are boddies riddled with bullet holes, ppl with their heads shot off. i cant believe you guys are treating it like it's just another news story edit: can ya tell im in that dark place too right now?

tex listen to this: http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/09/02/katrina.nagin/index.html listen to the link i think this guy will know whether there are ppl helping more than you would (not to be taken offensively) but i'm just saying that to downplay the seriousness of the situation is foolish

i love this, why isnt our national guard there? cuz its in f***ing iraq! there were 2 snipers that kept a local hospital from evacuating. 2 f***ing snipers - one detachment of national guard could deal with that s*** but no. i'm just pissed as hell at the moment. this is WORSE than 9/11 and since it doesnt have to do with a middle eastern country bush doesnt give a damn. what a f***ing asshole.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 05:16 PM) How many times have we heard this recently? I'm not saying you're wrong Reddy, but it seems like a lot of people just want to clinch this division during one weekend. im not talking about clinching, i'm talking about momentum. momentum is what we need to start going in the right direction and i was saying that detroit's a great team to start with. i'm not talkin clinch - just to clear things up

this is a great way to start off september a) a team we can beat, even sweep, without working too hard b ) a f***ing sweet lineup c) our hottest pitcher going for us tonight LETS GO HUNTING AND KILL US SOME TIGER

all that needs to be said is this. read the article on the sox homepage - it's also in another thread around here. that will prove y'all wrong.
-
well damnit that was my best guess... oh well
-
guys... the numbers are the numbers of our players...
-
IN come hell or high water, nuthin would ever keep me out
-
all that needs to be said is this. Freddy and Santana were both pitching amazingly well. Their offense didnt work last night either if you remember. and if it werent for a couple of AMAZING defensive plays on their end we very well could have and probably would have won. so i wouldnt fault our offense too badly on this one. though i do agree on the whole they're still not up to par.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 03:10 PM) How many other family entertainment venues do you know of where they encourage the fans to wave oversized black lacy bras? lol good point, but 2 words for you: '86 mets (does that count as two words?)
-
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) The last thing the Chicago White Sox need is for women's groups to start portraying White Sox fans as male chauvenist pigs. PETA didnt get all in an uproar over a rally monkey right? and for god sake they're just underwear
-
we should make a soxtalk effort to get this to catch on - i think that'd be priceless if people do this
