It seems more brutal in the city this time then last time. I dont know why. -
Jenks, The problem with that logic is that I can easily argue the same: "We wouldnt be here today if Zimmerman just went home and called the police." The real problem is that they are both probably somewhat at fault. Neither of them are white hat heroes, neither are probably black hat criminals. They are just both grey. And in my opinion Martin has had to pay the consequence for his mistake, and if the world was truly built on fairness, Zimmerman would have to pay some consequence for his mistake. I guess thats why people like to believe in heaven/hell. They like to take solace in the fact that there is some sort of ultimate arbitrator who will ensure in fairness. But for people like me, there is no fairness, there just is.

In my uneducated opinion the SYG battle is still coming. If there is no SYG Zimmerman would be in a tough spot, because hed basically have to waive his 5th amendment rights to put on any sort of defense.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 04:58 PM) He's not using the SYG law though right? He's just using self-defense as his defense. That's still his burden to prove the killing was justified. Im not sure, Im expecting at the end of the Prosecutions case they move to dismiss the case based on SYG. I really havent followed it that closely, so Im not sure how they have to approach it in Florida. And then if its not SYG, Zimmerman is going to likely have to testify, because otherwise hes admitted to murder and the jury has to find him guilty unless the evidence proves he was justified, and even if the star witness for the prosecution is terrible, it in no way helps Zimmerman. Im just somewhat uninformed.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 04:55 PM) Even if he was the one that created the danger? And this is the problem and why it should be the defense burden to prove that the killing is justified. Otherwise I can create dangerous situations to murder people and make the prosecution have to prove that I wasnt in danger/justified, which is pretty difficult.
-
Well that is ultimately the problem with this law. If I create a situation where the other person fears for their life and then they take actions to stop me, do I then have the right to kill them? IE: I am following someone down the street and they see that I am carrying a gun in a holster. There have been reports of someone similar to my description robbing people at gun point. The other person then turns around at me and pulls out their gun. I see the gun pointed at me, and I believe that the person who is pointing the gun, is the robber. I then shoot him. I have basically created a scenario where I can commit murder 1 and get away with it, as long as the person who I was hoping to kill did something to legitimately threaten my life. And therein lies the problem. Even if Martin looked threatening, even if he hit Zimmerman, we dont know if Martin was just acting because he felt Zimmerman was the aggressor. Ultimately this law makes it more advantageous to shoot first and ask questions later. Its just not a good law.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 04:05 PM) I don't think it is. By letting idiots wander around with guns, we're letting whoever can get a handgun permit decide to play judge, jury, and executioner. The end result is the dead kid in this case, the dead 6 month old down the road from me, and piles upon piles of bodies per year. But this legitimately has nothing to do with Zimmerman's case. Zimmerman can only be prosecuted by the laws that existed at the time of his action. According to the law, he was allowed to carry a gun. I may disagree with that, I may think that allowing people to have guns is the stupidest thing in the world. But that should have no impact on whether or not according to Florida law, Zimmerman is guilty of murder. It has no relevance.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 03:55 PM) But Martin was presumed guilty upon sight and wound up dead as a consequence. That means something is broken. Your standard didn't get applied to the dead kid. George Zimmerman is in no way part of the US criminal system. And Ive already addressed this by saying that the law should be that its the defendants burden to prove a killing was justified. Either way, its a terribly misguided comparison.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 03:51 PM) Maybe random vigilante-wannabees shouldn't be allowed to drive around with guns stalking people. In America even our enemies are innocent until proven guilty. It is the most fundamental right of our criminal system, and I dont care if my ideology is in disagreement with Zimmerman, he still deserves the same as someone who had the exact same ideology as me.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 03:34 PM) Well, I have a problem with the unarmed kid who died for no reason no matter what the current law says. Hate to say it, but there may have been a reason, there may have not been a reason. There is no video replay so that we can actually find out the truth. Instead we are left with a system that has flaws. But in my opinion those flaws are necessary. It would be quite ironic for me to argue that I would prefer 99 guilty men to be acquitted than 1 innocent man be guilty, and then come in this thread and argue that I have some sort of problem if Zimmerman goes free. I think the law itself is problematic, I think that if you want to raise an affirmative defense, it should be your burden. Its very hard for a dead man to explain his side of the story.
-
Eh this is unlike most murder cases. Generally you are trying to prove whether or not X person killed Y person. In this case we know X killed Y, its just whether or not X did it justifiably. You just cant predict what a jury will do. For all I know half of those people think that its always justified to shoot, thus the prosecution never had a shot. But that wasnt really the point. The point was that you had someone who admittedly killed another human, and the police didnt even charge him. I have no problem if Zimmerman wins because the evidence isnt beyond a reasonable doubt. I personally am not a fan of the law, I think that the burden should be on the defendant to prove that the death was justifiable, but thats just me.

Yeah on wedding night you should just be thinking about how for the first time you are going to get to have sex with your virgin wife...
-
If I ever get married I assume I will have between 0 and -1 input. But Id love to end it on Brain Damage/Eclipse.

Why is it "clearly" not a future pick? If Portland wants to rebuild, why would multiple firsts not be something to consider? Trading Noah makes no sense for the Bulls, and Boozer/Deng are to expensive to make sense for TB unless their is a 3rd team involved.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 02:53 PM) I'm of the opposite opinion...I think the way the new CBA has shaped up, late lottery picks have even grown in value from the time the Bulls got that pick traded to them. A guy who contributes somewhat under a rookie contract has never been more valuable in the NBA, and that's what late lottery picks can do. Bird in hand worth 2 in bush. If Bulls can add Aldridge and just give up a future pick, you do it.

Ill be there but the parade will likely go a block from where I work. -
Finally, Ive been having to eat Little Debbie and its just not the same.

Do what you want and will make you guys happy (or her parents lol). Ive been to obnoxiously expensive weddings and to be honest, most people just dont care. I would rather go to a fun wedding and I hate dressing up, so anything more casual is my preference.
-
lol Im just kidding with you. Ive been annoyed by much less (bringing and unnecessary umbrella).
-
Jenks, All I can say is what I tell clients. If the worst thing that ever happens to you is that you spent to much on (insert insurance, incorporating) consider yourself lucky. I know that Id rather jinx myself by getting a generator that I never have to use, instead of one day waking up to an apocalypse and saying "Well at least I got a generator."
-
If only there was some sort of really great shooter at the top of this draft. I dont know but Olidapo doesnt really do much for me because the Bulls dont need more defense.
-
Steve let us live in a fantasy world where the Bulls make an exciting trade like Olden Polynice for Scottie Pippen. But if the Bulls could get the 5 Id hope for Porter.
