    2013 TV Thread

I find Falling Skies to be a fun summer show, and it has Dr. Wilson now.
  2. These all seem odd seeing as MJW is supposed to be so hot you cant even touch. IE Femke Janssen as Phoenix. Although Rogue was supposed to be super hot and she was cast as Anna Paquin. I guess I just always assume that Mary Jane is supposed to be basically the hottest girl on the planet. "Face it, Tiger... you just hit the jackpot!" So she is supposed to be extremely confident in her looks. (edit) And you cant just keep Gwen Stacy, MJW is arguably the most important plot line of the entire Spider Man universe.
  3. Thanks for the response. The online thing and used games is also not something that really impacts me (ive never bought a used game and my entire house is wifi), but I just get concerned about my media being in the hands of someone else. The second paragraph is a cool feature and definitely one that would make me consider buying an Xbox.
  4. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 04:03 PM) I dont think anyone (especially in this thread) is saying the xbone is better. It is a person to person preference. If anything anyone in this thread that tries to discuss microsoft gets torn to shreds unless they are ripping them apart. I know I was in the minority but I preferred the original xbone ideas they had before they changed it sans some of the details about the kinect. None of the things that people complained about would have effected the way I personally use the console but I realize a lot of people were turned off by it so if it helps the community then its fine with me. That is a completely legitimate stance and I have no problem with someone saying they prefer Xbox. What I dont understand is why someone who is arguing for Xbox would say that Ps4 is just a "$400 blu ray player" that makes no sense in the context of the argument. Bring me something with substance, say I want an Xbox for X, Y, Z reasons. There is always a chance I am missing something. I have no problem discussing Microsoft, just once again, no one has brought me a good argument why its better to have extremely restrictive DRM, why its better to have to be connected at least 1 time every 24 hours, etc etc. I merely was saying "Those ideas dont seem to make sense" and when I said that I was basically told that "Im not forward thinking and just dont understand" Those are nothing more than ad hominen conclusions. I just am asking for some real discussion about the system, not Xbox fans telling everyone else how they just dont understand. Or posting some sort of quote from a microsoft employee with a "We had so many great ideas that you ruined, but I cant articulate 1 of them." I guess I just dont see that as very productive in determining what system I want to buy. I have presented reasons why I would buy PS4, I am just waiting for someone to present some good reasons why buying Xbox is better than PS4.
  5. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 12:54 PM) You never had to be connected 100% of the time. Why are you guys taking this so personally? Badger, I was joking about your $400 blu ray. My god, man. Im not taking it personally, I just get tired of ad hominen statements/arguments. Present a good argument for why Xboxone is better than PS4, maybe people will take it seriously. Like I quoted, the PS4 is arguably the more powerful machine, so the argument is just perplexing.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 12:18 PM) Why did anything in that guy's letter require you to be connected to the internet 100% of the time? Shhh youre an old man dinosaur who just doesnt get things like Canp and Taylorst. How can you be on your social media Xbox facebook account 24/7 if it isnt connected?
  7. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) Adding a $400 blu ray player to your array of dated toys is definitely a wise investment. But I have Smart TV!!! QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 12:05 PM) $80 a piece, all day, Blu Ray players with WiFi, and can stream NetFlix, just sayin'. So my ps4 wont be able to play next generation games just like the xbox???? Im confused at what you are arguing here. If you think a PS stupid investment, then so is an Xbox. http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/games...n-4-at-a-glance So if PS4 is just a $400 blu ray player, what is XboxOne? Its arguably not even as good as the PS4...
  8. http://news.yahoo.com/brazil-leaders-meet-...-054213617.html I wonder if any of this stuff will effect WC or Olympics.
  9. Im buying a ps4 because my ps3 is getting up there in years and I want to make sure that it stays in good working condition because it is an original and thus is backwards compatible and plays all of my PS1 and PS2 games. I also want to have more wifi/blu ray players, around my house so that I can stream Netflix etc to all tvs as I still have some older ones that arent wifi. Those are pretty good reasons to me, Ill be using the $50 per year I saved not paying for xbox live and basically be getting a new PS4 for $200. We call that being a smart consumer in the business world.
  10. Well its like he doesnt even understand the concepts he is talking about. "Its like Spotify or Pandora" no, no it isnt. When I have Pandora on, I dont get 10% of a song and then they ask me if I want to buy it from Itunes. I get 100% of the song, its just random what song I get. Now yes I do get a total amount of hours of Pandora a month, but that would be an entirely different creation (and something that I think gamers would have been really excited about.) Say instead of his stupid idea, they offered the following like Pandora: You get 40 hours of "share time" a month. Meaning that I can play 40 hours of 1 game that a friend shared or 1 hour of 40 games (and everything in between). That would be something cool/unqiue and would possibly even get me to buy an Xbox.
  11. And it doesnt make sense that they couldnt just make the desktop look like/work like old desktop with start button etc. and still have the tiles/touchscreen stuff too. Even on a regular computer the tiles arent the worst, especially if you use a few programs constantly. Its just annoying to switch to desktop and try and find things.
  12. Youd think in that block of text he could have given me 1 significant reason why it was good, besides for the fact that my friends/family can demo a game, which I just assumed was already allowed on Xbox. Not to mention with Redbox I can "demo" a game for $1 and maybe beat it for $3. To sum up why Microsoft went from being the undisputed king of computers to fighting for its life: I didnt buy your Xbox 360 at launch, I wont buy it today. Why would I ever want to buy antiquated hardware Perhaps you forget, but your Xbox 360 didnt have a Blu Ray player, which is something that consumers actually thought was "an amazing addition". Perhaps its not the consumers who need to learn a lesson, perhaps its you. http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-21539_7-20007826-10391702.html I guess to Microsoft Forward thinking= removing things people want and replacing them with things people dont want, and then tell your consumer that they just dont understand. Guess what, I do understand and there is a reason why reports are that now Microsoft dropped DRM their sales are increasing. http://bgr.com/2013/06/21/xbox-one-preorde...ation-4-amazon/ Hilarious.
  13. I do describe myself as Robin Hood, and according to the Sheriff of Nottingham he was a criminal...
  14. I want to know more about B-72, that guy sounds like a reality tv show waiting to happen. And Id guess there is some evidence that shows people with pets are more empathetic? I dont know, that would be my guess.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 02:16 PM) Q: Why did you leave late at night with the deceased person and 2 other people, and return without the deceased person(who just happened to die on that night, 1 mile from your home)? A: I dunno I was really drunk, I couldnt even operate my security system. I thought he had gone home with some girl and that hed text me in the morning. Its always better to seem suspicious then have physical evidence connecting you to a crime. Even if they can show you bleached your entire house, its still 100% better than them finding blood of a dead guy.
  16. Id always rather be trying to explain away why I did something, then have blood evidence. Q: Why did you destroy your cell phone and home security system? A: I got home and I was super drunk. The alarm started ringing and I was trying to use my cell phone to turn it off (who knows if systems have this but well just assume) and couldnt get it to work. I raged and started breaking s***. Q: Why did you hire a cleaning service? A: Because I just had raged and destroyed my house the night before, and aint nobody got time to clean that mess up.
  17. witesoxfan, Well that would be the best, but video game developers are greedy and want you to have to buy multiple versions of the same product. Which is partially when Im not a big fan of everything being online. DLC is already messing with games. I swear some games are being released unfinished because they can just go back and add in DLC for $5.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) Right, you can install games from the disc too to speed up loading times, but you still can't install the game and then play it. That's what I want...to BUY the physical media, THEN install it, THEN not need the disc again. You need an activation code to prevent pirating and stealing games, but I want that option too. And you should have that option. Its technology thats existed for like 20 years in computers.
  19. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 11:21 AM) So, you want your console to be more of an entertainment center that you can do multiple things on. Kind of like watching movies or playing games that other people have, but you don't own? Is it easier to meet up with said person, ask to borrow the movie/game, take it home, watch it, meet back up and give it back...or...access digital media via that entertainment console the instant you decide that you want to see/play it? It seems the latter was a feature that up until recently, was going to be made possible... The fact that some entities have sticks up their asses with respect to who they will allow to publish their media, has no bearing on what is the better option down the road. Because physical media can't go missing/scratched/broken/etc? 1) You arent understanding. I want both. I have Netflix and DVDs. I dont want NETFLIX or DVDS. I want to be able to BUY PHYSICAL games and DOWNLOAD GAMES. 2) Yes it does, because it shows that there is still a NEED for both. If I want X and the only way to get X is to buy Y, then I need to buy Y. It doesnt matter if Z is more convenient better, because I want X and the only way to get it is Y. 3) It can, but that is why both is better. If you have it 1) physically and 2) digitally, the chances that something goes wrong, decreases. So far Ive yet to see why having both options is a negative.
  20. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) It isn't age that designates the desire to have physical media, it is personal preference and past procedure. I'm 36, and think it is absolutely silly that we're still having to buy physical media for games/movies/music. It is personal preference. And in my opinion the market shows that more people prefer the option to buy physical media. Why do I believe this? Steam has been in existence since 2003 and many hardcore gamers still buy physical media for many different reasons. Steam is great for a $5 game, not so great for a $60 game. Since consoles are generally aimed towards the $60 game it doesnt make sense to remove the option to buy physical games. I assume that both Xbox and PS will allow you to purchase games online and download them to your machine (they already do, Ive bought some old Final Fantasy games for $10), so it wont hurt anyone to have the optical drive, because the dl system is already there. Why people dont want choice is mid boggling. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 11:17 AM) This. Instead of going all the way with one or the other, do both. They already do this with a lot of blu-ray moves. Disney especially. They already do both. I can dl full games on my PS right now.
  21. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 11:05 AM) You're such a small demographic that you don't matter. Sorry. Best Buy is struggling. Record stores barely exist. A company trying to drive innovation can't worry about people that refuse to change. Refuse to change? LOL I just am not a sheep who thinks that somehow its in my best interest to let someone else have my stuff. That isnt about change, that is just about common sense. For the same price, would I 1) rather let someone else have my bike but they promise that Ill always get to use it whenever I want or 2) have my bike in my garage. Guess what, the answer is 2. Because even if the other person is the most honorable up standing citizen in the world, there is still a chance that one day they screw up and I cant get my bike when I want it. If that isnt simple enough for you, I dont know.
  22. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 11:00 AM) That is all speculation really. If the Xbox1 cost the same as the PS4, but had no optical drive, I'd gladly buy one. Are there really THAT many households that are without means to play DVDs/BRs? I'm pretty sure those are probably also going to be the households that aren't looking to drop $400-500 on a gaming console. Some folks are ok with moving forward with an easier method of media usage, some folks don't want it to change. Regardless, sooner than later, the digital game media will go the way of the DVD with respect to Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, etc. When I need a new blu ray player I buy a PS3. Im not talking about households who are buying $50 dvd players, Im talking about households who have the money to buy DVDs the day they are released because they dont want to wait 40 for Netflix. And what do you mean, digital media will go the way of DVD with respect to Netflix. Can you name what internet service has Star Wars, or do I still need to buy the DVD? What about Lord of the Rings? Im not sure why you think its such an advantage to have no physical copy of something that you spent your money on. Why would you want to take that risk? If you have the type of money to spend $400-$500 on a console, you should have the $5 extra to buy the physical copy in case something goes wrong.
