2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
Soxbadger replied to He_Gawn's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 07:54 PM) I'm with Badger. I see no let down with IU tomorrow night. In fact, I think the 2nd half may cause them to be even more focused. That said, Wisky always seems to find some tall, non-athletic white guy to go off against IU. So we shall see. Not sure who you are referring to. The reason Wisconsin hasnt lost to Indiana since January 31, 2007 (Indiana stormed the court that day, guess their fans knew it would be a long time before they beat Wisconsin) really hasnt had anything to do with non-athletic white players. If you are referring to Rob Wilson last year, he is actually a black athletic player who never got a lot of minutes because he was to careless with the ball. The year before Wisconsin got 28 points and 39 points out of Jordan Taylor, another non-white player. There is a certain irony about Indiana fans saying "non-athletic white guy". That being said, I guess you can make up any excuse for why Wisconsin has beaten Indiana, but seeing as Im pretty sure not one player on the Indiana team has ever been part of a team that has beat Wisconsin, I think its a little more than the fluke you make it out to be. To be clear though. Wisconsin should be a severe underdog tomorrow, no real reason to believe they will win. Outside of the Illinois game, they havent been that good and its on the road. -
http://news.yahoo.com/russian-team-reaches...-184655985.html Sounds like the opening to "The Thing."

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 04:45 PM) Cause Wilson still runs a lot. He might do it more as a scramble but he stills runs a lot. He had almost double the amount of runs that some like Rodgers had. http://pickingpros.com/nfl/quarterback-rushing-leaders.php Wilson does run more, but you specifically said "Adjust to them" not "Wilson may get hurt because he scrambles more than a regular QB."

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) Colin Kaepernick was awesome Saturday night, but you need to be good for a few years before you can put his name next to the top guys. It will be interesting to see how Wilson, Kaepernick and RG3 play next year once the league adjusts to them. Why would Wilson be impacted by RGIII or Kaepernick? Wilson is a pocket passer who just happens to be fast. To the best of my knowledge, Wilson never ran 1 play of read option in college. On the Seahawks I can not actually recall him ever keeping the ball on read-option action. You also cant compare RGIII and Wilson to Kapernick because both RGIII and Wilson had insane passing ratings that were college records. Kaepernick 150.5 senior year, 3k yards, 21 td 7 int. Rushing Yards 1206 Russell Wilson 191.8 (All time NCAA record), 3k yards, 33td 4 int. Rushing Yards 338 RGIII 189.5 (2nd All Time to Wilson), 4k yards, 37 in 6 td. Rushing Yards 700 If you want to compare Kaepernick, the guy you are looking for is, Cam Newton. Cam Newton 182 senior year, 2800 yards, 30 TD, 7 int. Rushing yards 1473
-
Top 5 over 3 years would be (in no particular order) Aaron Rodgers Drew Brees Russel Wilson Andrew Luck Tom Brady Top 10 RGIII (But for being ruined in playoffs would have been top 5) Matt Ryan Peyton Manning Cam Newton Eli Manning

QUOTE (farmteam @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 01:22 PM) Got a bad feeling about the Wisconsin game tomorrow. Yeah me too. I am thinking Indiana +10. Illinois shot more free throws than Wisconsin at the Kohl Center. Wisconsin would need shoot out of their minds from 3 to even have a chance. -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 01:36 PM) lol. like Democrats care about defaults. most of them have terrible credit ratings. they don't even want to pay back their student loans or mortgages. Do you have any evidence to support this? Or is it just Democrats are more educated and have more money, therefore more likely to have student loans and own houses? Color me confused.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 01:13 PM) Overpay by $4k or so. Its our interest free savings program that will turn into our new furnace/AC. Yeah I also enjoy spending the return check.

Not sure what Ill get back, I usually purposefully overpay so its always been over $1k.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 11:58 AM) I read this book a year or two ago. It gave me a much greater appreciation for the cultural traditions of the Hebrew Bible and the history of the Jewish people and their faith. http://www.amazon.com/Bible-Unearthed-Arch...t/dp/0684869136 Just to be clear, I am not saying that I actually believe that events in the Old Testament are real. I highly doubt that there was an Abraham or Isaac, same with Moses and a few others. Now certain parts of the Old Testament do have historical elements (King David), but likely also include cult of personality stories (David v Goliath, Samson, etc). Same for Solomon (splitting the baby and arc of the covenant.) But there are some arguments that some of the big events did occur (great flood), but they were exaggerated.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 11:52 AM) The Bible sux. I think you meant "books suck".
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) I have no problem with religion so long as people don't take it so literally, which, I don't believe it was meant to be taken. I have a problem when people take their religious beliefs past the realm of reality, where it's plain as day that what they're saying, and what's actually happening around them are completely opposite...it's like...stop...SHHHH. Stop pretending you don't see these things...admit they're there, admit they exist, and move on. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 11:29 AM) The people who wrote both parts of the Bible and later hand chose the parts to be included did not really consider that those texts would persist, undisturbed but frequently translated, for over a thousand years. You cant talk about Old Testament and New Testament as if they are the same. Old Testament is supposed to be the actual historical story. As if you were watching a true historical documentary starting from the beginning of the universe.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 01:36 PM) The play calling has been good between the 20s. Red zone play calling has been atrocious. Its been alright. Specifically that last drive they would have been better served not having Lynch run around the 50 yard line, because Wilson right now is arguably just as effective if you give him a run/pass roll option. I also think they need to at least give the threat that Wilson will keep the ball on a read option with Lynch. They keep showing the read option action, but theyve given it to Lynch every time.
-
I really dislike Seattle's play calling on offense.
-
Its not over, but Seattle needs to score a TD here. They get the ball to start the second half, so theoretically could close it to 20-14 before Falcons even touch the ball again. Seahawks killing themselves so far on offense.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 08:29 AM) i wasn't here for that, but that's asinine. No one said this. Bmags just makes s*** up.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
Soxbadger replied to He_Gawn's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Well this is unexpected. -
This thread is pretty hilarious. My posting started with "eating healthy is more expensive than eating unhealthy", we somehow are back there, just with different participants haha Anyways time to go out and lower my life expectancy, huzzah!
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 05:58 PM) Because affluent white people in this thread are downplaying impoverished people, insinuating that they're too lazy to find healthy food. Please find where I said this, because Ive never said it, Ive never implied it. Ive merely repeated over and over again, you are comparing US and US. This is a thread about why the US is lagging against the rest of the world. The US lagging includes affluent people and poor people. Both are involved. If you actually read my posts youll see I constantly say that rich people are also the reason why US life expectancy is going down. So please please show me where I implied it has anything to do with poor people. I just keep asking why people think its easier to get food IN OTHER COUNTRIES.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 05:55 PM) I wasn't referring to one neighborhood in Chicago. Lake Street runs through several impoverished neighborhoods with a very high concentration of people. Not aware of the the stretch of road you're referring to where people own 2 to 4 cars per household. And I work 3-4 blocks south of lake street in Chicago. Where I am there is a Jewel, a Mariano's Market and a bunch of other stores, 2-3 blocks from the street. Lake street itself has basically garbage nonsense because its an El Steet and thus no big box store wants to have a storefront on it. This is changing though, see Wilson Yards project. Which is in Uptown, not a very affluent area, but has a Jewel, Target and Aldi's within 1 block and all right off of the Redline. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 05:56 PM) Yeah? Do you expel a lot of time and energy driving? Its an hour round trip. I dont know if you consider that a lot of time. To me its to much time. For you maybe not. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 05:56 PM) There is no difference in driving and taking 3 different buses to lug your groceries. And once again, 3 buses to get groceries has to be an aberration. Back in the day when Cabrini still existed, there was a Domnicks right behind it. There was a Jewel down the street. Unless youre saying Cabrini Green was an affluent area.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 05:52 PM) comparing harlem to nairobi is a straw man argument simply because I'll bet that area is not in one of the 27 countries ahead of the US. You are right. I just was to lazy to look at the 27 countries, and Nairobi was the first desert city I thought of.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 05:47 PM) I'm guessing they own a car in your suburb. They do own a car. But they have to pass a ton of junk food places. Why dont they just go to the closer easier places? Why do they take the time and energy to go shop somewhere farther away? Because its important to them, so they go out of there way to do it.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 05:43 PM) Do me a favor and drive down Lake Street westbound and tell me how many healthy food joints you can find along the way before you hit Oak Park. The answer is 0. Do me a favor. Drive down Milwaukee Road from Dundee to Hawthorn Mall and tell me how many "Health Food Stores" there are. Oh wait there are none, because I asked you a loaded question about a specific street in a neighborhood I know. Maybe you should drive down Dundee Road between the Lake and the highway. Damn those Glencoe folks must be poor, they dont have a single store anywhere. What exactly did you prove?
