  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 10, 2012 -> 09:12 AM) First, i'm not aware of an epidemic where gang members are robbing lawful gun owners. I guess show me that's a problem and I'll buy this "justification" to raise taxes. Second, aren't you afraid of getting shot? Why don't YOU stay inside and not go into public if you're so concerned about the 1 in a 500 zillion chance of being shot by someone using a gun to protect themselves? I'm all for putting reasonable restrictions on guns. But I don't think that should be done through taxes which we all know is a bunch of bulls***. Emanuel should come out today and say he's implementing a 1% tax on car owners because of the car jacking problem we have in the city. That makes about as much sense as this gun/ammo tax. A good portion of your response has nothing to do with anything I said. I have no idea what you are referring to about the taxes. I merely responded to the idea that more guns is a simple solution, when its clearly a far more complicated issue. Your second point is the only actual response. I think an argument can be made for your position, I disagree with it though. I believe that society should be able to create rules to protect the collective. And if the collective believes that the risks of having a gun in public outweigh the benefits, then the collective should be able to make those rules. Thus if Chicago wants to ban guns in public, they should be able to. And if Texas wants to allow machine guns in public, they should be able to. I see no real reason why local govt should not be able to set their own rules with regard to this issue. I guess I am just anti-big govt and outside of a few overarching ideas, I dont think the federal govt should interfere with local govt.
  2. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Oct 9, 2012 -> 03:41 PM) Id like to share my musical favorites with you guys, but I'd risk the bands losing their underground status. #hipsterproblems Im an "awesomer", the opposite of a hipster.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 9, 2012 -> 03:26 PM) Here's a way to curb gang violence - punish the law-abiding gun owners! http://www.suntimes.com/15644719-761/cook-...ammunition.html For sure, that way when the gang jumps you, not only can they steal your wallet, they get a free gun too, just hope that they dont shoot you with your own piece. Guns for all, guns for all! Its really not as simple as pro-gun people try and make it. Because no one believes that we have an unlimited right to weapon ownership (otherwise I should be able to buy a rocket launcher to mount on my tank), thus the question is, where does the risk of gun ownership outweigh the benefit of gun ownership. My personal opinion is that its in public. Youre right to protect yourself, should not trump my right not to be shot accidentally. If you are so afraid, dont go in public. But let those of us who arent afraid live.
  4. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 9, 2012 -> 09:12 AM) Thanks, I just figured it was the norm to not have removable batteries, I don't have any friends that have a phone with one or atleast haven't seen one. I get the added benefit of being able to carry a 2nd battery around in case the first one dies, but your phone would still be dead for at least a few seconds, plus you have to remember to bring that battery everywhere. Seems more like a pain that worthwhile, imo. The reason I like removable batteries is that I owned a very early generation IPod where the battery was complete junk. It would have been really nice to be able to buy a new battery, instead of having to rely on someone else to do it. There also is the possibility of advances in battery life that would allow you to use a new battery even with an older phone. Its the same reason that I like having expandable memory. For $25 you can always get another 32 gb.
  5. Strangesox, Does the emulator you suggest also play PS1 games?
  6. Canada is a complete joke. Told you Wisconsin is the dumbest staff.
  7. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 5, 2012 -> 06:09 PM) Obama had no details, no ideas, no plan. Just his usual marketing slogans. It still amazes me that a certain segment of the population buys into it; but I suppose we are talking about the bottom of the intellectual barrel. They will believe anything with a shiny logo and marketing slogan. You just basically described Romney. Obama is a terrible salesman. If this campaign was about who could sell the most cars or convince the most people that the sun revolves around the Earth, Mitt Romney is going to win 99 out of 100 times. If Mitt was on the what I consider the right side of social issues he may have gotten my vote. But any candidate who has a website that says the following: That has no place in govt. The govt has no right to define tradition. Just because something is tradition does not mean its right. We as a society must constantly evolve and recognize that equality trumps tradition. Because if he wants to play the tradition game, Jews came first, there traditions are over 2x as old as Christians. They win, so stop believing in Jesus, get out your Torah and Ill find you a good Mohel. Its nonsense. Y2hh, It isnt some secret that politicians are 2 faced liars. I think most people vote on social issues and maybe Obama wont live up to his word, but Im not being given another choice. The Republicans want this, not me. Id be very content if the US had another legitimate party to compete against the Democrats for my vote, so that theyd actually have to work for it. I like small govt, I just think the govt telling me how to live my life is the most egregious form of govt interference. And maybe it would be compelling if Romney said that he was going to deregulate drugs and other things I like. But you see thats the problem, they always want to regulate what I want. So in what universe do they get my vote?
  8. Yeah that 3 year difference between 1949 and 1952 really changes things. Turkey was involved in the Korean War, which is pretty much the first major NATO military operation. Do you think that Germany doesnt get as much support from Nato? They joined in 1955. Why would the US need to save Turkey's ass from Syria? By all accounts Turkey's army is vastly superior to Syrias, Im pretty sure Turkey has the 2nd largest military in Nato. The issue is that a war declaration on any member of Nato is a declaration on all members. Thus Syria can not do anything to Turkey.
  9. Sounds like things are going to get dicey. Turkey hit Syrian military bases. The problem is that unlike rogue elements in Afghanistan, Palestine, etc, this is the actual Syrian military hitting Turkey. It also is different because Turkey has the superior military support (part of Nato) so they can do whatever they want.
  10. An Ozzie lead team would have been 10 games out at All-Star break so its impossible for me to compare what might have been.
  11. I guess I dont know what the line of ridiculous scandal is. Because USC, Michigan, have had pretty big scandals and most academics could care less.
  12. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 5, 2012 -> 02:45 PM) Getting heavy sanctions on your sports programs has a direct effect on your school's image. I'd rather the school/donors invest in legal and NCAA allowed methods, such as facilities, coaches, etc. Do things the right way, no matter what. Im pretty sure that statistics would find this to be false. Michigan had the fab 5, during that period their applications went up, when the fab 5 got sanctions, no one cared/remembered. Wisconsin since 1999 has improved its academic rank due to better sports. How many people even remember the Shoe Box incident? If you care about your school's academic rank, then you should want it to have good sports programs. There are some pretty good studies about the application bump that occurs after a team does well. More applications = more selective = better school.
  13. Large poli sci picture of US. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=....svg&page=1 A few of those states will move every election or so, but generally not much has changed.
  14. Discussing polls is as boring as watching paint dry.
  15. None of it matters. The people who really are going to win in the economy, bet on both Obama and Romney. The rest, well like Obama said, hope for a tech boom like Clinton because that was what helped the economy, not tax manipulation. The only place where the election really matters is social issues.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 5, 2012 -> 11:36 AM) Ohio State had a training days special this offseason on ESPN. Multiple episodes and a hour long finale. Yeah but they werent following the players around to parties and at night (which is what I was imagining.) If its just nonsense like that who cares.
  17. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 5, 2012 -> 08:44 AM) Guys, Below is a short survey about technology, mainly smart phones. This is to help out a family member. No personal information has to be filled out, just answer 13 multiple choice questions and you're done. Anyone that fills this out, thanks in advance! https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VTBZGJ5 Done but tell them they have a typo "Somewhat often, I download apple on a weekly basis" apple = apps

    2012 TV Thread

If I can get free episodes of last resort on my phone I may watch it.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 5, 2012 -> 11:33 AM) LOL, seriously? Its been going on in football for years and in the Big Ten for bball as well (thought its all teams). Nothing wrong with it whatsoever other than the fact not every program would be open to it. Well if its just going to be a replication of what the Big 10 is doing with the journey its no big deal. But if its going to be Kentucky meets Jersey Shore (what I was imagining) then you really dont want to be taping that.
  20. That would be a dumb move by Kentucky. The last thing you want is for there to be video evidence of what happens in college.
  21. At Wisconsin the scholarship players stayed in the private dorm. It wasnt as ridiculous as describe above, but the dorm had showers in each room, maids, all you can eat food in the basement. I thought that was pretty common practice.
  22. Yeah im the opposite I dont ever plan to use my phone for games. I just want to use it for netflix, music, movies, etc.
  23. So its bad that the first thing I wondered was if those girls were hot? I think the answer is no by the way. (If the question is, are they hot?)
  24. When you get it tell us what you think. I went with the SGIII. The Iphone just didnt make a lot of sense for me, I dont have any apple products and I dont plan on buying any apple products.
