  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 10:23 PM) Paul McCartney is essentially a billionaire. Lennon would have been as well, plus the guy didn't really seem to care about that stuff as much as others. If anyone could have shut it down, it was John. McCartney's wealth came from good investing due to his father in law back in the day. He would likely be significantly richer than Lennon. That being said, I really think it would be like Pink Floyd where they may do a show for charity, not personal gain.
  2. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 08:49 PM) Of course it is free to do what it wants. And I am free to criticize and mock their claims of being unbiased. Everyone has bias, but its unlikely a huge conspiracy. Bias comes from individual humans, if there is bias in the media community it is merely because people in the media community are like minded individuals and therefore likely have similar beliefs.
  3. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 08:26 PM) they tune it out because it gets barely any news coverage. Most people probably think that war is over. Most people are stupid. I dont care about most people. Why are we relying on private corporations to educate us? Shouldnt it be up to US citizens to care about their country and become educated? The news is free to do what it wants, its capitalism. If you want your news filtered, there is always China. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) the story would make just as much money now as it did then. No it doesnt, as the Yahoo article said, people are apathetic to the war. American's like things where the US wins. They forget about things that make the US look bad. This isnt rocket science.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 08:19 PM) The payroll? Also the players do as well, as they've admitted they get pumped up when more fans are at the game. Well everyone agrees the Sox are trying to make the most money as possible, so its not about payroll as the Sox decisions in their opinions make the most money. I assume they have a team of acturaries who calculate exactly what they think the revenue will be at a variety of different price points. As for the players, they can pool some money together and buy tickets to give away to fans if they care. Otherwise, its up to the fans to decide they want to put their hard earned money towards watching a game.
  5. The Sox want to take advantage of Yankee fans. Its kind of annoying when the Yankees fans outnumber the White Sox fans, might as well make some money off them. This has been going on as long as I can remember. Sox fans just b**** way to much about seats, prices, etc. Go to the game, dont go to the game, who the hell cares.
  6. I dont know what you guys are arguing actually. You admit the Sox are out to make money, yet refuse to accept that the Sox are taking actions they believe will make them the most money. Outrageous prices? I went for under $30 per ticket on labor day weekend with a group of friends (lower deck box). Ive spent over $30 on cab rides in a night. Chicago is expensive, thats not going to change.
  7. Im pretty sure their strategy is to make money, not fill seats. So without actually having access to their books, how can you do anything but assume? Its just silly to believe that the Sox arent trying to make the most money possible. Now their strategy may not work, but they are trying to make money.
  8. Wilson is an interesting case because no one denies his talent. He is smart, he has a good arm and he is athletic. He put up ridiculous stats last year in a run based offense. He is vertically challenged though. If he was 6'2 people would have been considering him in the first easy. Also Flynn was drafted in the 7th round. So its not like he was a cant miss prospect out of College, if anything Wilson was higher rated coming out of college.
  9. No one talks about Afghanistan, except for http://news.yahoo.com/americans-tune-afgha...-185225577.html
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 04:18 PM) I haven't seen the popular supergroup that has been able to turn down the millions of a reunion tour for over 30 years. They wouldve gotten together eventually. Except for Pink Floyd, which would be the best comparison to The Beatles. David Glimour and Roger Waters have not toured together, they have done maybe 3 shows in the last X years, all of them were for charity except for Gilmour appearing at 1 Wall Show to play his song, Comfortably Numb. Its rumored Pink Floyd turned down $250mil profit from Live Nation (the tour was going to be all expenses paid.)
  11. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 03:56 PM) If that was true why would teams ever have a first round QB sit a year.... its an entirely different game. Also, it is only 2 preseason games and Wilson did it all against backups so he might just be another Caleb Hanie... Some teams have had QB's sit, others have not. Manning didnt sit, Stafford didnt sit, Cam Newton didnt sit. Brees sat, Brady sat, Rogers sat. That is about 50/50 and a lot depends on the actual situation of the team. For example this year, Griffin and Luck will both start. Times are changing. And Im not saying Wilson will be any good, the point is that Flynn is basically completely unproven, so why would you just had him the job? The reason that they are starting Wilson is to see what he can do against a starting defense. If he flops, that experiment failed. If he does good, why shoudlnt he take Flynn's job? i dont know what will happen, I just know I wouldnt hand Flynn anything. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 03:57 PM) The most interesting part of the whole story is that Bielema took credit for "developing" Wilson as a QB. That is odd, but Bielema is crazy. Hes the coach, but I dont really respect him to be honest. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 03:58 PM) I dont know that we have seen enough of either to make that determination. I know Russell Wilson is your guy, but Gould is right, you can throw college numbers up all day long and at the end of the day it is still college. The NFL makes mincemeat out of college superstars that started all four seasons. And guys that get one season as a senior to start and put up decent numbers go on to NFL greatness despite being drafted late, like Tom Brady. The only way to determine it is by watching them play. And at the end of the day, it is like the 359th different QB that Carroll has started in 3 seasons Im not saying Wilson will be good. Im saying there is no reason to hand Flynn a job. Whoever earns it should get it, regardless of salary. And Carroll isnt a good NFL coach, he is used to college with extreme turnover.
  12. Kyle, I dont think Seattle planned on drafting Wilson. But he fell to them and they took a chance. If the guy was a few inches taller, he was easily a 1st round pick. He had the highest qb rating in NCAA history playing for a running team. I guess the question is: Would you rather have a team who puts out the guy they think is the best? Or the guy with the biggest salary?
  13. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 03:43 PM) I was getting at posting college stats is a waste of time and don't have much to do with the argument and being a backup in NFL gives you more relevant experience than a starter in college.... But, constantly you see backup QB's get hyped up when they make a few good starts and they turn out to be backups for a reason. Obviously with the big contract the Seahawks almost have to give Flynn first crack and it is only preseason so who knows how he will look when regular season starts, but I'm thinking Kevin Kolb like results. I disagree that being a back up in NFL gives more relevant experience. Being a starter gives more relevant experience, which is why outside of Tom Brady, the top QB's were all starters in college, and generally for at least 2 years. If you cant even win the starting job at your college, how are you going to win the job in the NFL? Yes I get that Flynn was a back up to Jamarcus, but that guy isnt even in the NFL. The point of the stats was to show how little actual playing time Flynn has had, and I think thats relevant.
  14. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 03:26 PM) Posting college stats doesn't have much to do with the NFL, it's a completely different game and guys that dominate in college can be undrafted or late round picks. The reason Flynn got the contract is because every time he filled in for GB he posted very good games and constantly people put too much hype in small sample sizes of backup QB's. Im not sure what you are getting at, the point of the stats were how much more experience Wilson has than Flynn. Flynn has never put up great stats. You may think College stats are useless, but you have to use something. Even stranger is you seemingly reached the same conclusion, that to much hype was given to a small sample size. Odd
  15. Except he wasnt even good that great college, the only time he actually played in relevant games. Since 2004, he has only played over 10 games in 1 season, 2007 LSU, here were his stats: Cmp Att Pct Yds Y/A AY/A TD Int Rate 202 359 56.3 2407 6.7 6.5 21 11 125.8 Otherwise the guy has only thrown 130 passes in 4 years. In comparison here are Wilson's stats last year at Wisconsin: Cmp Att Pct Yds Y/A AY/A TD Int Rate 225 309 72.8 3175 10.3 11.8 33 4 191.8 Here is something even more crazy: Flynn's career stats (including college) 569 passes, 4111 yards, 30 tds, 18 ints Wilson Career: 1489 passes, 11720 yards, 109 tds, 30 ints Flynn is completely untested at basically every level.
  16. Russell Wilson is extremely talented. Never understood the Flynn love, but a lot of people liked him.
  17. And to put this troll out of his misery: http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=193&f=2...9247764&p=1 Im still laughing.

Right he wanted everything, including Gretchen, and he left when he couldnt have it his way. Although I would guess that there is more to the Gretchen story and that it somehow involves Walt and a destructive tendency.

Im not sure Walt missed out on anything. Im pretty sure that Walt basically took his ball and went home when things didnt go his way. It appears the other partners wanted Walt involved, but Walt only wanted to do things on his terms.
  20. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 08:05 PM) This guy needs illegitimately raped right off the ticket. There, I said it. Comedy gold.
  21. It sucks that the world is so pc, otherwise illegitimate rape would be a hilarious catch phrase.
  22. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 06:40 PM) And as I've stated many times already, recruiting a committed player is thought of as "unethical" to the majority of the country. I'm not even saying it's right or wrong from my POV, I was merely poking a hole in Saint Bo Ryan's holy following. If this was the other way around, Red Foreman and Co. would be on their way to Crean's home ready to fight. You do a lot of speculating about other programs and what you think they would do. Why dont you stick to Indiana, a team that actually took a committed player from Illinois, and explain to all of us, what your point is.
  23. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 06:18 PM) Either way, regarding Gary Harris. I guarantee Crean DIDN'T call Gary Harris, as that would have been an NCAA violation. Harris notified MSU he chose them while he faxed his letter of intent to them on board of the ship they played UNC on. Oh so youre saying that Fischer hasnt put in his LOI? Interesting you once again just sunk your argument. Guess you didnt think that post through. If Fischer signs a LOI to Indiana, no one will contact him. Until the LOI is signed, hes open season. Thats how it works for every player, not sure what your complaint is.
  24. Thought I changed that. And I still dont think he dominated them. He played them well, but those guys arent NBA centers either.
