Who is going to prosecute the police officer? The prosecutor who just won his case because the police officer perjured? The problem is that perjury and obstruction of justice are weapons that the govt uses to coerce people to do things. They are unfortunately not weapons that every day people like us, can use against the govt. If the govt commits perjury, your best hope is that you are found innocent. http://www.constitution.org/lrev/dershowitz_test_981201.htm To sum up the Bonds trial, using Dershowitz's words: Sorry for the long post, but the reality is that there is a pretty good chance that there were perjured statements used against Bonds, but those people will never be prosecuted. Why? Because the govt gets to choose who they prosecute. They dont prosecute people who play their game and who give them what they want, regardless if it is completely false and leads to the death of an innocent defendant. Conversely, if you dont give the govt what they want, they will try and ruin your life with a perjury conviction. That is why people should be repulsed by what is being done to Bonds, because its a sham.

And the Defense is going to appeal the conviction the govt got him on. I just dont understand why are willing to support the govt wasting millions of dollars on something that happens every day, and something that govt employees do every day. Plenty of police officers/fbi/dea etc, have perjured to get a conviction. The entire point of a trial is that people lie and its up to the jury to determine who isnt the liar. Ive had a judge flat out call some one a liar and say "You are lying to my face", but all it meant was that they lost the trial. Its a shame, but this is what happens when you dont rat on your friends, the govt punishes you. I dont support vindictiveness in the law, I think that goes beyond justice.

And would you say those people are making logical arguments? Or would you say that they are living in the past. Because Id say they were living in the past. Just because stupid people make stupid arguments, doesnt mean I have to put any stock in them. And further there is no way to convince the people who believe the arguments otherwise, because if they actually were capable of being convinced they wouldnt believe it in the first place. Id think the bigger Communist fear would be China, not the USSR which hasnt won a gold medal since the 1990s.

I agree that my interpretation is currently wrong, if I was actually arguing this legally, Id be attempting to overturn a considerable amount of precedent. This is one of those arguments where Im throwing out all the precedent, and arguing how I feel. And that is the underlying problem I have. There are cases where testifying could result in the witness being embarrassed or humiliated, and I think that they have the right to say, "I dont want that to happen to me". I dont believe that the govt has the right to tell citizens that they have to reveal secrets. This case its not a big deal, but it can put a witness in actual danger. If they are forced to testify against a mob boss or gang member, there could be serious reprisals. I dont believe that any person should be punished because they dont want to testify, I think that we should all have the right to keep our mouth shut. Im trying to find exactly what section they applied to Bonds, because there are a few different federal laws that could be the right one. In Illinois the statute reads: (720 ILCS 5/31‑4) (from Ch. 38, par. 31‑4) Sec. 31‑4. Obstructing justice. A person obstructs justice when, with intent to prevent the apprehension or obstruct the prosecution or defense of any person, he knowingly commits any of the following acts: (a) Destroys, alters, conceals or disguises physical evidence, plants false evidence, furnishes false information; or (B ) Induces a witness having knowledge material to the subject at issue to leave the State or conceal himself; or (c ) Possessing knowledge material to the subject at issue, he leaves the State or conceals himself. Based on the Il law, Im not sure Bonds could have been convicted in IL. If they thought he knowingly provided false information, how is that not perjury? (Just to clarify that does not mean you couldnt say something false and not have it perjury, just the facts of this case are that Bonds was under oath when the alleged obstruction based on a false statement occurred, so therefore it would also be perjury. At least thats my conclusion)

Sale threw strikes and he got hit. I can live with that because Sale has great stuff and control is generally what will get him trouble. We gotta give some one a shot, its either Santos or Sale, I dont mind either choice.
-
It is only an attack to those people who are still living in the past where communists or socialists are going to take over the world. I thought our new enemy was terrorists.
-
And when they are under oath, they arent forced to answer the question or be put in jail, or if they are evasive they dont get charged with obstruction of justice.
-
What happens to our legal system when we allow the govt to strip away the 5th amendment because they can give you "immunity". No where in the 5th do I see any sort of immunity exception. 5th Amendment: I just dont think that the govt should be able to force anyone to testify who doesnt want to.

It sounds bizarre but there is some truth to what the guy is saying. Stalin used goal programs and many public works projects http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five-Year_Pla...he_Soviet_Union. FDR was responsible for some of the greatest public works projects. I just dont think the word communist or socialist are necessarily bad things, nor am I sure the US trying to steal from the USSR's successful programs would make them socialists or communists, anymore than the US stealing from Nazi Germany would make them Nazis.

Could Kenny be looking for a new closer already?

s*** speculators, got a speculate. Anyway Im not sure that I really think those names have better stuff than Santos or Sale. When you look at the Sox pen, they basically have 2 guys who you could replace/send down that make sense, Pena and Ohman. Im pretty sure that when Peavy comes back, Humber will take one of those spots. I like Sale, Thornton, Santos, I just think they need to wake up. -
Damn you yelling baby quit being the voice of reason. Its so much easier to proclaim that a baseball season is over.

So breaking in, is kind of like reaper, which was kind of like the loop. Bottom line, tapping the grave, may be the best phrase of the week.
-
I think you meant, it could be a lot worse. Because it definitely can get worse, the Sox are still above 500. Not saying that it will or that it should, just the Sox could have started like the Twins or Red Sox and wed have something to really be concerned about.
-
Sale has pitched as a starter and has a ton more innings under his belt than Santos. Its understandable why Santos wasnt out there, Thornton is more of a question. When things are going bad, no answer looks good.

I dont think its a big deal, but at the same time maybe you should think about using terms like that so flippantly. I personally think by making a word taboo you give it more power, but Im in the minority (with that belief) and I can respect that people should have a certain level of decency. Cocksucker is not the same, I wont even go into similar words, because I guarantee I can offend 90% of this board.

It'll Take a Brave Manager to Change Mindset on Starters

If you are ready to quit now because the Sox teams wont do good in August or September, you might as well not watch the game. Because when you look at the AL Central and look at the Sox, im not sure how they arent the favorite. They are above 500, its not the end of the world. Ive seen the Sox find way worse ways to lose to the A's, it is what it is. -

Actually even AZ was a fluke case: http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/...a_diamondbacks/ Its just a fluke. If the Sox continued this pace, Im pretty sure theyd shatter every blown save record. -

Its not even about the pitchers at this point, its just the biggest streak of bad breaks, nonsense, etc in the 9th inning I can ever remember. Even the best hitters in baseball only get a hit 1/3 times. It just cant continue. Itd be one thing if we werent even getting to the 9th with a lead. -

If you cant get 3 outs without giving up 3 runs, you dont deserve to be in the majors. Its getting to the point where the Sox are at statistical hilarity. This cant not continue to happen. -
Obstruction of justice is so weak. Lets predict the sentence: I predict fine and community service.
-
Even if the Sox had the worst bullpen in baseball, its still a statistical anomaly that they have given up this many runs in the 9th inning. Eventually there will be a regression to the mean, its just annoying today.
-
Bullpen is just snowballing right now. They need a day off in the worst way.
-
Its as if some of you have never seen Adam Dunn play before, a large amount of at bats will end in a K. But he has a lot of productive ones too, Dunn's obp was only like .458 before the game today, that dude is the reason the Sox are losing.
-
Thornton got 2 outs with he bases loaded. You cant blame Thornton for this one.
-
Maybe Thornton told Ozzie he can only close if others fail before him.
