If you didnt see that Koch yesterday was a 100% different pitcher than last year than you just have it in for the guy. From his 97mph fastball that I never once saw last year, I think his arm was legitimately hurting or just tired and he didnt want to seem like a whiner. Because yesterdays Billy Koch was not the player was saw last year at all. SB

The OFFICIAL "Think positive in 2004" Thread
Soxbadger replied to The Bones's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Im optimistic because the chances of losing a game when you are down 4 runs in the 9th inning I would venture to guess is some where in the less than 1% range. Koch looked good, 97 on opening day, I suspect had he gotten another batter he would of hit 99. Politte, looked good, should of been taken out at the start of the 9th. The offense looked good, I have no doubt had it gone extra innings they could of scored a run. 1 bad day, I prefer that it happened on our first day of the season rather than our second to last (hint remember Bartman). There is a big difference between Koch of last year and Koch of yesterday, some where in the area of +/- 5mph. Anyone that could not see Koch more closely resembled his 2002 with the As as compared to his 2003 with the Sox was not watching yesterdays game. If Ozzie was making sense he would of brought Marte in for Guiel. If Koch had given up the home run to Stairs, there might of been second guessing, but we do pay Koch 6mil to do something. SB
-
He made a mistake, it was the first game, lets see if he learns from it. Its better that he learns from his mistakes early rather than later when it counts. SB
-
It did not matter, everyone knew Pena was going to pinch hit for the righty lefty matchup. Koch just ate up Guiel a lefty, and he was gonna be pitching against Matt Stairs a batter who is much worse than Guiel. I take my chances with Koch who actually looked good for once. SB
-
Koch looked good. 97 mph fastball, 92 slider in on the hands. He ate Guiel up, he was beating Santiago but he fisted it into left field. Koch gets the job done period. But the biggest mistake was Politte not getting yanked after the first BB. You get him out and you take the inning serious. Ozzie did not take it seriously, he thought he was cruising. SB

Id take him if he comes on the cheap. I mean maybe a change of scenery will change his attitude. But there is no denying his talents. SB

I voted the tigers, I mean come on Jason Johnson, Vidro, Guillen, with Pudge, and Ugueth. Thats World Series talent. SB

Not really I like Blalock, I was more interested in giving up Tex lol. SB -
Maybe winning the spot this year will give him some confidence to go along with his improved mechanics. He has always had the stuff, it has just been can he be consistent enough to get people out. Wright only walked 4 this spring training so that is hopefully a good sign. SB

Harris 2/3 with a SB. I think the Uribe thing in KC is more about starting Harris off against LH, when we can hold back and get him in a groove against RH pitching. SB
-
Im sure the reason we do not have Urbina is that we already have a property that is a $6mil per year closer in Koch. Had we traded Koch, we would of considered Urbina. But we have other areas to address before getting another closer. SB
-
If the rest of the AL Central starts to spend, I think Reinsdorf will too. He just likes to play down to his competition, much like the White Sox. Sb
-
Because what is the point of chest thumping with Boston and New York when you can beat them for a fraction of the cost? All the Sox have to do is win "their" division. It does not matter if Boston and New York win 130 games a piece, as long as the White Sox win "their" division. If we are in the lead at the All-Star break you trade for talent and get it at a fraction of the price. You hope to get into the playoffs and get more revenue, also feeling that your improved team can compete. Had the White Sox not been so crappy in April last year, they would have made the playoffs and been a legit contender. It didnt work out that way, but payroll is not the #1 factor in winning world series. SB

It depends what you would want to offer, both of those guys would take a good amount of things I need being filled. Just send me an email or something with a few propositions, and we will see if we can work anything out. SB -

Depending on what youd want for Sexson I might be interested, I believe I have 3 3b eligible, A-Rod, Tex, and Blalock. SB -
Id rather eat my own vomit. Have we not learned you do not trade pitching for pitching. Hi, we are back in 2001 and trading Wells, Fogg, for stud Todd Ritchie. We dont have money, this is pointless. Rosenthal should be shot. SB

Garland is looking really good, getting alot of grounders and keeping his pitches down. SB

And Im in to Cheat. SB -
Dusty Baker keeping his pitchers in even in the preseason. This is a real important game, Zombrano needs to go atleast 100 for the Cubs to have a chance. SB
-
I guess the Arizona air is a Sox fan seeing as Gloads home run was a regular pop up, but Ramirez's hit was so hard but was not a home run. Dusty Baker is my hero. SB
-
So over the offseason the Cubs went to temper tantrum class? I mean Alou and Zombrano already crying over calls. I wonder what will happen when the games really count, probably just break down and cry like last year. SB
-
How come they didnt say, exSox Sammy Sosa... SB
-
But notice how they always refer to Gload as "exCub". Just in case he does well so then they can say, "Oh it was just an exCub that beat us, the Sox needed one of our throw aways to win" SB
-
Zombrano has nuclear meltdown after walking first batter. Now lets see what happens after home run. SB
