  1. Happy Birthday, Jim.
  2. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 26, 2006 -> 09:33 PM) It seems like that 3 run homer by Piazza into a stiff wind on a dead cold day has turned into Dempster's "Pujols" moment. Interesting. Check it out, it's Soxtalk's version of John Freaking Steinbeck.
  3. Atrocious. Zambrano had a no-hitter going into the 7th inning. Life as a devoted Cubs fan must be complete and utter hell right now.
  4. Congratulations, dude.
  5. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 26, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) I didnt know that. I thought their set infield guys ATH were Inge Guillen Polanco Shelton. But I dont pay attention to their everyday lineup that much, this is jsut what I thought they were going with Yeah, not that these guys are offensive monsters or anything, but the Tigers have a very versatile bench if we're talking infield positions. Polanco can play at 2B, SS, or 3B Santiago can play 2B or SS Infante can play 2B, SS, or 3B Inge can play 2B or 3B That ain't too shabby. It's much better than what we have in terms of IF versatility. QUOTE(JackTalkThai @ May 26, 2006 -> 07:26 PM) And I also don't know if you are aware or not that the Tigers are currently #2 in the majors in Defensive Efficiency Rating and also rank several spots higher than Chicago in fielding percentage as well. Pitching and defense have been two of the biggest reasons for Detroit's quick start. Yeah, but you're f***ing with the best, son. I don't care what the numbers say. We just won a championship on the strength of defense. And again, pitching represents the vast majority of defense, and if you're analyzing position players, you start with the key slots (C, SS, CF, 3B). Scotty Pods and Jermaine Dye are not strong defenders, but they play at positions that are pretty f***ing far from crucial in terms of saving runs. Kong has jack s*** for range, but he can pick it and he has an accurate arm, so he's not a defensive liability. And even if he were, 1B from a defensive perspective is far less important than C, SS, or CF. I like Detroit's bullpen and overall defense, though. Adn how could I s*** on Bonderman and Verlander? Those guys are up-and-coming studs.
  6. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 26, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) It is Carlos Guillen vs Uribe, not Polanco. Polanco would go against Iguchi Okay. Polanco plays SS and 3B too, correct? Kind of a super-utility type.
  7. QUOTE(loltrain @ May 26, 2006 -> 04:02 AM) C: Rodriguez v Pierzynski - Rodriguez 1B: Shelton v Konerko - Konerko DH: Young/Thames v Thome - Thome (by a mile) 2b: Polanco v Iguchi - Even 3B: Inge v Crede - Even SS: Guillen v Uribe - Guillen OF: Monroe v Podsednik - Podsednik (barely) Magglio v Dye - Even Granderson v Anderson - Granderson (by a mile) You guys have a good lineup. There's no question about it. But let's compare defense at the key positions (C, SS, CF, and to a lesser extent, 3B) C: Rodriguez vs. Pierzynski Rodriguez is obviously a better defender, but you can argue that AJ calls just as good of a game, if not better. SS: Uribe vs. Guillen Guillen is pretty damn good, but he ain't no Uribe on defense. Juan is simply spectacular with the glove. He has a Top 3 arm out of the SS slot. CF: Anderson vs. Granderson Anderson is a Top 5 defensive CF right off of the bat. Have you seen this guy play? There is no contest between him and Granderson. 3B: Crede vs. Inge And you thought that they called Crede a poor man's Brooks Robinson just for the hell of it? You're looking at the best defensive third baseman in the majors. A f***ing monster with the glove. You can't overlook the key defensive positions in your analysis. These guys save runs on a daily basis. Don't worry, you'll soon find out what Sox fans already know. We have the best defensive team in baseball, with pitching representing the vast majority of defense. If you're a Pistons fan, perhaps you know a little something about it.
  8. QUOTE(jenksd @ May 25, 2006 -> 08:40 PM) Did you know Chris Trice? Nope, I've never heard of him.
  9. QUOTE(sox84 @ May 25, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) Excellent, Excellent!! Got a good chuckle on that...He's a legend in his own mind. Yeah, you're right. But there are some things that you have to like about Rickey. 1) He rolls out of bed and all that he can think about is baseball. 2) He framed a check for 1 million dollars instead of cashing it.
  10. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 25, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) My staff goes as follows SP-Peavy SP-Haren SP-Liriano SP-Contreras P-Schmidt P-Sabathia RP-K-Rod RP-Tom Gordon Im this 6 man fantasy league where everyone has a legion of stars. Its the most fun I have had playing fantasy baseball in a long time Yeah, that's cool. I wouldn't mind playing in a 6 man format. It has to suck when people bail in such a small league, though. If you have 6 devoted participants, then's it's probably awesome.
  11. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 25, 2006 -> 09:46 PM) Ha, that is something you deserve if you put your faith in Elmer Dessens. I have quietly assembled a bullpen of death (K-Rod, Nathan, Valverde, Putz, Rodney), but I could have seen myself picking up Dessens when Burgos was demoted.
  12. How many people are getting f***ed after acquiring Elmer Dessens for their fantasy squads? Is there a safe pitcher to acquire on the Royals?
  13. It took Doug Mientkiewicz over 140 ABs to hit his first HR. Talk about great production out of the 1B slot.
  14. And Ivan Rodriguez grounds into a double play. Inning over.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2006 -> 06:48 PM) I would agree that KC will find a way to blow this game... Who is starting for the Royalitos anyway? Denny Bautista. And now the Tigers have the bases loaded with one out. Angel Berroa made an error on a double play ball. 6-1 Royals. Bases still oaded with one out for Granderson. Granderson single. 6-2 Royals. Bases still loaded with one out. Polanco HBP. 6-3 Royals. Bases still loaded.
  16. The Tigers got some dude named Jack Hannahan starting at 1B. Who the f*** is that?
  17. Beautiful. God damn, Maroth pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up 6 runs on three HRs, two 2Bs, and a single. Some dude named Roman Colon just relieved him, and he has already allowed a walk and a single. The inning has yet to end. Put up a 20 spot on those bastards. Maroth's ERA just went up from 2.45 to 3.56
  18. QUOTE(jenksd @ May 25, 2006 -> 08:56 AM) what year did you graduate? 1996.
  19. QUOTE(jenksd @ May 25, 2006 -> 05:45 AM) It's this little Hot Dog place on the northside, well decorated. It used to be on roscoe(midpoint between belmont and addison) just east of Western, but it burned down and reopened, now it's at California and Roscoe... Anyways, this place has ridiculous hot dogs. The entire menu varies from your typical fare(ranging from a regular hot dog, polish sausage, or a corndog), to weirder s*** like "Smoked Alligator Sausage with Cajun Remoulade and Gorgonzola Cheese ". It's all delicious stuff and they name the sausages after celebrities, which brings me to my main point: last year during the playoffs they had one named "The Konerko" and it was a Ribeye Steak sausage with some weird green stuff(wasn't relish, don't remember exactly what it was) and it was one of the tastiest things I've ever had. GOD DAMN does that sound delicious. I went to high school right down the street (Gordon Tech). I'm gonna have to check that place out one of these days. I love me some hot dogs.
  20. QUOTE(beautox @ May 25, 2006 -> 06:01 AM) If they want to do the wave, im cool with that too So i would suggest to just embrace it Translation: I did the wave
  21. And I can't sleep on Al Kaline's 10 gold gloves.
  22. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ May 25, 2006 -> 12:59 AM) Willie Mays Hank Aaron Mickey Mantle Joe DiMaggio Ken Griffey Jr. Ty Cobb Babe Ruth Ted Williams Stan Musial Roberto Clemente You'll notice that those are just the outfielders. Nice. These 5 would round out the Top 15 in my opinion: Rickey Henderson Carl Yastremzki Frank Robinson Barry Bonds Mel Ott And props to Tony Gwynn.
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 24, 2006 -> 10:52 PM) That is a very good assessment of Patterson's defense. Patterson is a below avg defensive cf. He has insane range and a strong arm for a CF, but he gets horrid jumps and has trouble making good catches on the run. I'm not saying he doesn't have the talent to be a very good CF, but he hasn't exactly made strides defensively since reaching the majors. Yeah, I've seen him make quite a few insane plays over the years, but his instincts are not exactly what I would call top notch. He gets to a lot of balls despite his questionable reads, though (that insane range that you refer to). I think that he's an above average defender when you take everything into account, but maybe he'd be a legitimate defensive asset in RF, because he certainly has the arm for it.
