  1. Okay, so we need a 3 run HR from Uribe this inning. No problem. And then he needs to come up in the 7th and hit a grand slam. And then in the 9th, maybe a bases clearing double. I don't think that I'm asking for too much.
  2. We're gonna need a couple more 3 run shots from Uribe.
  3. Chris Singleton: "The Cubs hitters look like they know what's coming" That's 5 runs on 6 hits thus far in the 1st.
  4. Big Frank just broke up Batista's no-hitter with a two run shot.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 08:28 PM) That you Jabroni? Seriously though, where is SSH2005?
  6. QUOTE(JackTalkThai @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) Defense? Defense worries you? The Tigers have Gold Glove caliber defenders at CF, C and 3B. Guillen despite an error here and there is solid at short. Shelton has been nothing short of impressive thus far at first. Magglio is Magglio...you pretty know what you are and aren't going to get...and Thames, Monroe, Gomez in left are certainly servicable. Judging from the season to date, team defense is the least of my worries that have been mentioned thus far. Yeah, flbob is the man, but when he said that he's worried about the defense, I was kind of left scratching my head. The key defensive positions on a baseball field: 1) Pitcher 2) Catcher: Ivan Rodriguez 3) Shortstop: Carlos Guillen 4) Center Field: Curtis Granderson And to a lesser extent, Third Base. The Tigers are an awfully strong defensive team, just like the Sox. Defense up the middle is what it's all about. You can get away with having a defensive liability at either of the corner OF spots if you are incredible up the middle. You guys may look at the stats of Brian Anderson and Juan Uribe and consider these players to be weak links on our squad, but they are elite defensive players at their respective positions. I don't know if I'm sold on Inge, but like I said, 3B is not as important as the C, SS, and CF slots when evaluating defense. And obviously, pitching represents the vast majority of defense. The ultimate defensive games are: Perfect Games No-Hitters One-Hitters Two-Hitters Shut-Outs And the Tigers lead the league in shutouts, which is a primary indication to me that they have a first tier defense.
  7. QUOTE(Be Good @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) Mine was: Don't You (Forget About Me) - Simple Minds The kinda wierd because I actully enjoy that song. That's a damn good song, actually, and I'm not really into the Duran Duran/Tears For Fears era type s***.
  8. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) Join with me people -- Where's our Liriano? There are too many teams in this league. Having two young HOF caliber pitchers in the same rotation is pretty much a freak occurence, especially in the expansion era. Hell, you'd have to go back to the late 60s Mets (Seaver/Ryan). But make no mistake about it: Contreras is a HOF caliber pitcher. If he came up in the states, he'd be (arguably) the best SP in White Sox history outside of Ed Walsh. Talk about a major championship piece.
  9. I think that the term "birds***" comes across better on the internet. You almost always have to say "bulls***" or "horses***" when you're on the street. Those terms just have a much better ring to them.
  10. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 09:43 PM) I'm several pages back in this thread, but feel this post needs to be quoted. We can label Contreras or Buehrle our "aces," but let's be honest -- compared to those two they're birdshirt. Don't worry. That will all change when our Liriano is either traded for or developed. Right? I almost always agree with your posts, but Contreras is birds*** in comparison to Liriano and Santana? Come on, man. Maintaining the AL triple crown (ERA/WHIP/BAA) over the first two months of this season = birds***
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 09:39 PM) The count when he is dominant/everything is going for him throwing strikes/etc/ is in the league with the Minny pitchers. But right now the numbers are well in those guys favor. Contreras had the AL triple crown (ERA/WHIP/BAA) going well into May. He's having a bad month, and all of a sudden he doesn't even come close to Santana or Liriano? Always remember: No Contreras, no rings.
  12. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) Verlander is going to fall off the table. And their bullpen is nothing to write home about. And you smoke crack, beeotch.
  13. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 08:24 PM) I'd take Liriano and Santana over any of our SP right now, and it's not close The last part of your statement is bulls***. Way to disregard the most important asset in our organization. Not even close = my ass.
  14. Check out the guy in the background with the Bulls jersey. I think he's "checking out" the dude in the hooker jeans.
  15. The dreaded Yankees, who made it into the playoffs on the strength of Bucky Dent heroics.
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 07:08 PM) Are you basing your preference on this year, or historically? This year I would say that Rodriguez, Rivera, and Billy Wagner are all beneith Jenks in my standings IMO. My personal preference based on this year's performances only would be: 1. papelbon 2. Ryan 3. Nathan 4. Jenks 5.Hoffman Exactly. I took previous years into account. Your list includes the guy that I forgot about: BJ Ryan. On paper, he is the best closer in the majors.
  17. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) That 97 MPH pitch was not a slider. The next pitch he threw was more of a slider. The 97 MPH pitch was more of a cutter. Still, you don't see many 97 MPH cutters. So, are you backing your boy Joe Morgan? Nobody knows what the f*** Jenks is throwing unless it's an obvious fastball or curveball. The guy is amazing. You can argue that he is a Top 5 closer in the majors. I would take Papelbon, Rivera, Nathan, Rodriguez, and Billy Wagner before Jenks, but that's about it. I mean, unless I'm forgetting about someone...
