I am whiter than the whitest white man.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) hammer, hypothetical here. Pretend JM's managing the Sox this year. What's our record? No idea. But I know that the Dallas Cowboys won a Super Bowl with Dave Wannstedt calling all of the shots on defense. I'm just saying: Teams can win in spite of their managers/decision makers in a lot of cases. Ozzie is nothing special, and neither was Jerry.
-
QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 06:14 PM) Oh yeah, and btw: Jerry Manuel could NOT have done that job. Is that supposed to be like a definitive statement or something? You know this for sure?

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) I am? Where? Where am I advocating playing Pods? I am saying he was the only one capable. Once he stopped producing we had no backup plan. I never once made a case for him to continue to be our leadoff man. Not once. This is like a redandwhite type response. You're totally missing the point. MACKOWIAK IS A BETTER OPTION OUT OF THE LEADOFF SLOT THAN PODS IS. You said that Pods is the only one capable, and therefore, Ozzie should continue to play him over Mack. Maybe "advocating" was not the proper word to use there, but you know what he meant. All that you're doing is dancing around the issue.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 10:11 PM) But you are advocating playing Pods, who has none of those 3, over guys who might be able to give you 1 or 2 of those 3, with your reasoning being that Pods is a leadoff hitter. But he's not giving you any of the attributes of a leadoff hitter, which is why we're focusing on this. Exactly.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) He cant hit, or what you really mean is the first 2 months he couldnt hit right. Review the splits and then tell me he cant hit. Ahhh s***, here we go again.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) It takes more than that too. Once you hop back in your time machine you will be able to read the whole post and read exactly what I stated. So you have more baseball smarts than Ozzie Guillen? No, but Kalapse does.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 07:32 PM) He doesn't have the baseball smarts? I have seen and heard differently from some of the "smartest" baseball managers. Tony LaRussa, Bobby Cox, and Jack McKeon have all stated he has a great baseball mind. I think I will take their word over yours. Sorry. What about what you see, southsideirish?
-
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) It goes waaaaay beyond what you see on film and games and what research we do time machine boy. Yeah, you have to be a leader of men. I thought that I already conceded that? Don't worry, it will register. You'll see the difference by the time this thread gets to page 30.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) How bout his experience playing actual MLB baseball? Being a successful player? Being called a great baseball man by members of 3 organizations? If anyone on this board can raise their hand and say they have accomplished even one of those, then I would say we are almost as qualified to lead this team. There are stupid baseball players, you know. We see them every day. But I have already conceded that Ozzie is a natural born leader. He just doesn't have the baseball smarts to supplement his leadership qualities. That is it, point blank.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) No there are not thousands of Sox fans who are capable of making better baseball decisions than Ozzie. It makes you able to manage a team that you don't even know just because you see things on TV and computers? That is asinine. Get back in your time machine. We watch the games, we can review game film, we can keep up with the rest of the league, we can research splits, etc. I know what all of the players on the Sox are capable of. Does Ozzie? That is what I'd like to know. You are playing the "He got us to a World Series and therefore he is a smarter baseball man than any sox fan" card. That is just a tad too simplistic, no? I'm gonna need a little bit more than that. I have witnessed one too many boneheaded baseball decisions to buy into that line. And this whole Anderson thing is flat out embarassing.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) And you are saying a fan could do a better job and has a better feel for this team than Ozzie does? Because THAT is the argument. Ozzie won a world championship with the White Sox for the first time in 80+ years and fans think they know this team better than he does? Give me an f'n break. You may think you do, but I really doubt you do. There is not one single Chicago White Sox fan that could do a better job with this team. Ozzie is a natural born leader, but that doesn't mean that he's a smart baseball man. Can you see the difference? There are thousands of Sox fans who are capable of making better baseball decisions than Ozzie, but that doesn't mean that they are charismatic enough to lead men into battle. It's like you hopped in your time machine and just arrived here last week. This ain't the 1940s. We have computers and DVDRs and s*** like that. We can see plenty, but we're not leaders of men. That's the difference.

QUOTE(Wealz @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 06:38 PM) The Sox have been playing with the equivalent of the a decent hitting pitcher in the lineup when Anderson plays on the road. See why he needs to be platooned. If you combine his July and August road splits, he hit .328 (20-61). It look like he's been making plenty of progress. But I agree with Kalapse. Most of you guys are hopeless. It's painful to read.
-
QUOTE(idiotposter @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 05:02 AM) Anderson will not be a Sox within 2 years -book it. He has had ample opps to prove himself -come on all you man crushers, he just doesnt have what it takes. What do you call this: July: .313 AVG, .330 OBP August: .296 AVG, .367 OBP I guess the fact that he's a brilliant defender at arguably the most important defensive position outside of pitcher and catcher doesn't mean much either. Philosophically challenged and baseball retarded is a "fun bad" combination. Keep posting.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 05:37 AM) I went out to dinner tonight, and sat near a window at the rear of the restraunt. In the middle of the meal, I got up to go the bathroom at the front of the restaurant, and noticed it was pouring outside the front doors. When I returned to my seat, I looked outside again, and the pavement was clearly dry. It wasn't raining at the back of the restaurant. The skies were dark, but for about 5 minutes, it was only raining on half of the building. Did you pop any tabs before you sat down for your meal? -

He was also born and raised in the United States, but he swears that he's not an American. We have some odd birds up in this place.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) So... Mississippi is both the poorest AND the fattest state in the union. You couldn't pay me enough to live in the south again. Ayo, don't be talking spiff about my Scotish brethren.
