  1. QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 12:06 AM) Instead, we will have the pride of seeing him go to the hall disgruntled because he has to wear a Sox cap. Fitting. My ass.
  2. QUOTE(GaelicSoxFan @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 09:49 PM) WBEZ is our NPR station. 91.5 FM. They play jazz most nights starting @ 8 PM. Okay, I've checked that station out before. They don't play much jazz fusion, though.
  3. QUOTE(GaelicSoxFan @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 09:37 PM) I've heard some of the names, most notably Kool & The Gang. Probably by listening to WBEZ while I'm out for my nightly walk. Have you heard their early 70s era jazz fusion tracks (no vocals), or their commercial stuff, which is more or less straight R&B? You'll have to forgive me; I don't even know what WBEZ is. Great compilation right here:
  4. Are you guys up on any late 60s/early 70s era jazz fusion? Dennis Coffey, James Brown Band, Galt MacDermot, Cal Tjader, David Axelrod, Sven Libaek, S.O.U.L., Wade Marcus, Herbie Hancock, Billy Brooks, Jack McDuff, Meters, Kool And The Gang, Freddie Hubbard, Clarence Wheeler, Jimmy McGriff, Groove Holmes, Ike Taylor, Joe Farrell, Jimmy Caravan, Bernard Purdie, Gene Harris, Crusaders, Billy Cobham, Grant Green, Cannonball Adderly, Wes Montgomery, Sun Ra, etc? Or just straight jazz from the early-to-mid 60s? I guess that stuff kinda puts me to sleep.
  5. QUOTE(bmags @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 04:17 AM) Scarface - no That's odd.
  6. That chick from the Spice Girls always has the dumbest look on her face.
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) I couldnt have been more dissapointed with the show. Why didnt they just call it Varsity Blues 2? The characters are just over blown reproductions of other shows and movies. They really just amplify the characters to the point where its too unrealistic. I am so disappointed in you. There were frogs humping on Animal Planet while you were tuning in for that complete and utter nonsense. Why don't you get your priorities in order.
  8. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) The original survivors have come upon other people on the island. Some were from the same plane but had landed elsewhere. Another is a woman who was marooned years ago. And then there are the "others" and the Dharma people, of which we don't have a clue about. So, its not like new people are just coming to the island all the time. The initial group is just finding more people. Okay, gotcha. I also like this guy a lot: I like a lot of the actors from "Oz". Harold Perrineau, Adawale Agbage, Eamonn Walker, Scott Winters, Ernie Hudson, Terry Kinney, J.K. Simmons, etc. The show itself has one too many butt-rapes for my liking, but hey, the actors are awesome.
  9. Most baseball historians would agree that Ted Williams is the greatest hitter of all time. When he made it to the World Series in 1946, he hit .200 with only 1 RBI in 30 plate appearances. My point? Nobody is above having a lousy series, not even the great Ted Williams. This should go without saying. And before you tell me that Frank had more than one lousy series, check the 1993 stats. Frank hit .351 with an 1.131 OPS in 27 plate appearances. That ain't too shabby.
  10. Hey fellas, I've only seen parts of "LOST". I checked it out mostly b/c I am a huge fan of this guy: That pic was taken from www.nudemalecelebrities.net, by the way. Best Jack Black voice: That's how I roll. Anyways, the point of me posting in this thread: I heard that they introduce new characters. Like, other dudes get "lost" and somehow end up on the same deserted island. Is this true? Because if it is, well, you know.... That's enough to hold me back from ever getting into this show. You can't introduce new characters with a plot like that, unless they are natives of that particular island or whatever.
  11. QUOTE(PartyForFree @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 10:52 AM) b]If your Party Poker account is registered to a U.S. address, I would advise withdrawing your money immediately.[/b] Immediately? That's what google news told me, anyway. And let's say that, for instance, I don't withdraw the funds from my account by the time the 270 days are up. Couldn't you guys still send me a check in the mail? Doesn't this bill restrict credit card payments and electronic transfers? I am very confused, and most of those links that you provided don't even work.
  12. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 12:01 AM) As for Dylan. I can't name one person I know of who owns anything by or even likes him. This is the truth. That's why I can't talk about Dylan with anyone besides my Father-In-Law and everybody here at soxtalk. This thread has been fascinating on some levels, though. I learned that Dylan can't play the harmonica. I'm also assuming that Duane Allman couldn't play the slide guitar, John Entwhistle's bass guitar flat-out sucked, Mitch Mitchell was a butcher on the drums, etc. John Lennon couldn't sing for s***, etc. The 1965 Tour has been STRICKEN FROM THE RECORD. Forget about it. It never happened. And remember, Dylan died in 1966, so that was obviously someone else playing the harmonica on "John Wesley Harding" and "Blood On The Tracks". I know it's all personal taste, but that doesn't mean that I can't be amused by it. And I'm not a Rush fan, but I see that they have thousands of bootlegs, so they obviously have an ENORMOUS following, just like Bob. Heck, I could never get into the Grateful Dead, and they have more bootlegs than anyone (part taping policy, though). In the end, the Rush vs. Dylan thing is pretty silly. You were wrong, Dick. You were wrong.
  13. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 01:00 AM) and his original version of "All Along The Watchtower". Do you have the "John Wesley Harding" album, or just the "Greatest Hits" Volume 2? Because if you like that track, you'd most likely enjoy that entire album with the exception of maybe one or two songs ("Down Along The Cove" and the title track, in my particular case).
  14. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 08:33 PM) Ahh, I see the "Frank never did anything for us in the postseason" crew has already arrived. Hah, some of you guys really crack me up. f***ing FRANK THOMAS!!!! What a game!!!! Greasy, make sure you don't mention that Godchild Paul Konerko went 0-for-9 with 1 BB in the 2000 playoffs. Because, if you DARE say a bad word about Pauly Konerko, you're fishin' for some trouble. Don't bring up "O-E-O, MAGGLIO", either, who hit just .182 in the 2000 playoffs. It was all big jerk Frank's fault we lost in 2000, and don't you forget that!!!! Word.
  15. Come on, fellas. Frank just singlehandedly took out Johan. None of this Thome vs. Frank crap, please?
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 07:24 PM) No kidding. Instead he disappeared. Hmmm, I don't know if 6 games is enough to go on. For those of us who grew up on Frank, how sweet is this?
  17. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 05:06 AM) But Dylan and the harmonica...I love to listen to him play it as much as the next Dylan fan, but if you talk to anyone that knows how to play it, they'll tell you Dylan plays it like pure s***. And face it (I don't like to face it either), he does. Sometimes it makes my ears bleed the pitch gets so high. Bob plays the harmonica like pure s***? What in the hell kind of Bob Dylan fan are you? Seriously though, that's the most ignorant thing that I've heard all year. No offense to you, as you stated that you like to listen to him when he plays, but those dudes that you've been talking to should be written off as straight-up motherf***ing retards. Good God. Anyway, here are my Top 15 Dylan moments on harmonica. I should have pretty much all of his essential bootlegs and officials from 1962-1975. Walkin' Down The Line (1963 Demo) Don't Think Twice (Manchester 5/7/65) To Ramona (Sheffield 4/30/65) It Ain't Me Babe (London 5/10/65) Love Minus Zero (Newcastle 5/6/65) It's All Over Now, Baby Blue (London 5/10/65) The Times (Manchester 5/7/65) One Too Many Mornings (London 6/8/65) I'm A Lonesome Hobo (John Wesley Harding) As I Went Out One Morning (John Wesley Harding) I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine (John Wesley Harding) I Pity The Poor Immigrant (John Wesley Harding) Idiot Wind (Original) You're A Big Girl Now (Original) Tangled Up In Blue (Original) As far as acquiring some of this stuff, go to www.bobsboots.com and seek out B&P trades. That's blanks and postage.
  18. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 11:19 PM) I challenge you to present me an artist that started his/her career better than Dylan's debut in '62 to the Basement Tapes in 75 (I can already picture you looking up all the Rolling Stones and Beatles albums): Bob Dylan The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan Another Side of Bob Dylan The Times They Are A-Changin' Bringing It All Back Home Highway 61 Revisited Blonde On Blonde Nashville Skyline New Morning Blood On The Tracks The Basement Tapes The Basement Tapes is actually 1967. I have a "Complete Basement Tapes" 4CD set with over 100+ tracks, and only three of the songs are good. One Single River Four Strong Winds French Girl A good 15 to 20 of the songs are promising, but the lead singer of the Band is so utterly horrible on those sessions that he pretty much destroys every single track, with very few exceptions. He ain't even singing; he pretty much whines his way through tracks. They should have put a gag on that dude. Also, you left out his masterpiece JOHN WESLEY HARDING. I consider that one to be his best officially released album. IMO, his best album period is the original pressing of "Blood On The Tracks" with the vastly superior versions of "Idiot Wind", "You're A Big Girl Now", "Tangled Up In Blue", and the classic unreleased track "Up To Me". And I know that nobody listens to me, but mixing in bootlegs with officials is what it's all about. It's like y'all are living in the dark ages or something. You also said that Dylan ain't recognized for his musical talent. Now, my favorite instrument is the harmonica, and Dylan is the master if we're talking about classic rock (no offense to Alan Wilson). But again, you might not agree if you haven't heard all of the Witmark Demos from 1962-1963, all of the classic tracks from the 1965 tour, the unbelievable outros on the original pressing of "Blood On The Tracks", etc. The John Wesley Harding album is yet another prime example of his insane talents on the harmonica. And I like his voice on damn near everything except for the 1964 Tour, "Blonde On Blonde" and "Nashville Skyline" if we're talking 1963-1974. What people need to remember is that Bob Dylan COMPLETELY reinvented himself from year to year. Hell, from month to month. Most people around my way can't stand him due to the commercial tracks from 1965-1966, particularly ANYTHING off of the "Blonde On Blonde" album. I know a s***load of classic rock fans, and nobody likes Dylan with the exception of my Father-In-Law, who is a huge huge fan. Here's a 7CD set I put together last year. I encourage any and all Dylan fans to investigate some of these sources, particularly the Witmark Demos, 1965 Tour, and the 1974 originals. The 1965 outtakes are great, too. He never completed a few classic tracks (You Don't Have To Do That, Midnight Train). Both are partial demos. Bob Dylan Volume 1 1962-1963 Demos 1. Walkin' Down The Line 2. 19. QUOTE(ZoSo @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 02:51 AM) Can I join this lawsuit? I could use that money. Just think how many cartons of smokes I could buy. That's the spirit.
  20. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume that every last person who watches this show is a serious lamebrain. In my best Richard Simmons voice: Oh, it's so sexy! No offense to any of the lamebrains here at soxtalk. QUOTE(shipps @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) She was somewhat attractive in "Exit to Eden"........right?.......the leather?..........whips?.....maybe critic is right. And perhaps Ben Stiller wouldn't have been in a position to get his little wee-wee caught in his zipper if only he had a photo of Rosie O'Donnell wearing tight leather. That is enough to defeat any man.
  21. She looks just like her sister in this one. I have absolutely no problem with these photos.
