  1. QUOTE(bigredrudy @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) The worst thing about the trade with Arizona is that we lost Young. He is putting up monster numbers-27 doubles 4 triples and 21 home runs. he is near the top in every hitting category except batting average and it continues to rise. After a slow start he has been on fire. The thing about prospects is whether they improve. As he has gone up the line Young has continued to get better. In A Ball he struck out over 140 times- this year he has only struck out 66 times. And of course Young is fast and a good outfielder. Arizona already has him penciled as their center fielder for 2007 Do you know for certain that he will succeed against major league pitching? Have you ever even seen him play? What exactly do minor league stats mean? Should we put Roberto Petagine in the Hall Of Fame? I love it how people try to make definitive assessments when discussing minor league players. Observe him on the major league level for a lengthy period of time, and then if he's kicking ass, feel free to run your mouth about how you "thought" he'd be great based on some minor league stats. That is a riot in and of itself.
  2. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 12:41 AM) I have been a White Sox fan for 30 years but trading for Vazquez was one of the worst I have ever seen, and believe me I have seen some bad ones over the years. I am assuming that you were you born in 1976? You started watching Sox games the minute that you popped out of the womb? Also, when you're in your pre-pubescent years, you ain't reading the sports section and keeping up with technical spiff. You're watching Transformers or whatever. Sure, you might watch some games with your dad, but you ain't reading jack spiff, which is what it's all about if you truly expect to have an informed opinion. Don't lie to me, yo.
  3. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 06:07 PM) I will agree with the generational thing to a degree, but with Murray and Belushi especially, there was no generation divide. Heck, I hear younger people speak poorly about Sandler as much as people my age. He yells...a lot...is that humor (sit down Mr. Kinison)? That divide rarely happened with Murray. The Chase/Murray/Belushi stuff is timeless. The early 90s stuff is timeless (even though you slept through all of it). The current version IS NOT.
  4. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) There is always good reason for rage when talking about modern SNL. That show hasn't been funny since the mid 80's and it just keeps getting worse and worse. Terrible show. That Prospector thing was stupid. Come on, dude. Check the early 90s cast: Phil Hartman, Kevin Nealon, Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, Tim Meadows, David Spade, Adam Sandler etc. Am I forgetting anyone? Every single episode from like 1991 to 1994 was a freaking classic. It ain't even funny. I'd like to find the bootlegs, but people don't offer them up on ebay, amazon, etc. When they finally get around to releasing the complete seasons on DVD, I'm gonna be one happy motherfisherman.
  5. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 03:05 AM) I also don't think I'd call Bonderman a streak stopper. The guy's a good pitcher with some pretty solid stuff, but I don't think I'd go as far as basically declaring him an ace. I think that he's almost there. I'd label him as a 1.5 If he could just start dominating at home like he does on the road, then he'd be a surefire ace. If the Tigers are smart, they'll go with Rogers and Verlander at home and start Bonderman in game 3.
  6. He's batting nearly .392 at home in 120 ABs. Dodger Stadium is supposed to be a nightmare for hitters, but this guy just continues to rack up the hits. I've never seen him play, but he must be one sweet swingin' motherfisherman.
  7. QUOTE(SouthsideNorthsideFan @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 08:18 AM) I wouldn't go that far...a drunken mind speaks a drunken brain moreso than any "truth"... How many times have people woken up the next day feeling like asses because they did something idiotic when they were drunk? Did that mean that's how they really are, sober? Not at all... There is a correlation between the consumption of fire water and blatant honesty, is there not? You might wake up the following morning regretting certain things that you said, but if you get in a fight or get a DUI or whatever, you're most likely just a moron to begin with.
  8. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) Why Booooooo the greatest player in Sox history. I have no problems with Frank. I don't see anyone else here, so you must be talkin' to me.
  9. QUOTE(Hurons @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 06:41 PM) I was making reference to your Avatar..... Just because Rock likes him some severely retarded broads doesn't mean that all Sox fans do.
  10. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 05:19 PM) if you want a scouting report on the next Twins stud pitcher, check out Aaron Gleemans blog post today Matt Garza Awesome blog. Someone ought to email this dude and tell him NOT to read Joe Cowley articles. The best "worst" team in baseball? How severely effin' retarded is that? Talk about columns that will make you dumber.
  11. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 04:59 AM) Um, so when is Verlander supposed to fade again? When the Tigers start playing real teams.
  12. I suppose that we need a Twins Watch. They're only like 34-8 in their last 42 games. And allow me to bite the style of a slightly retarded, somewhat troubled young man (mang) that is no longer with us: I hate Benchwarmerjim so much. Why can't he just go away? I know he hasn't posted, but just the thought of him lurking here pisses me off.
  13. Frank is having a huge game today. He already has two HR and four RBI, and he's coming up to bat again in the 7th inning. Oakland vs. Boston Ahh, he struck out. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  14. Minimum: 90 IP WHIP 1. Francisco Liriano 0.95 2. Johan Santana 0.99 3. Pedro Martinez 1.00 4. Curt Schilling 1.06 5. Roy Halladay 1.06 6. Mike Mussina 1.06 7. John Lackey 1.08 8. Chris Carpenter 1.10 9. Brandon Webb 1.10 10. Justin Verlander 1.11 11. Chris Young 1.11 12. John Smoltz 1.14 13. Ervin Santana 1.14 14. Jason Schmidt 1.16 15. Jeremy Bonderman 1.16 16. Dan Haren 1.16 17. Taylor Bucholz 1.17 18. CC Sabathia 1.18 19. Jose Contreras 1.19 20. Bronson Arroyo 1.19 Check out that dynamic duo at the top of the list. Francisco Liriano has the MLB triple crown (ERA/WHIP/BAA) Also, did you know that Brad Radke has a 1.15 WHIP in 11 home starts on the season? His road WHIP is approaching 2.00, though. The Twins won't make the playoffs, but they are arguably the toughest home team in the majors. John Smoltz is back, and he's a major candidate for "Pitcher Of The Month" in the NL. I fear that by mid-August, this list will not have any White Sox players on it. Buehrle is approaching 1.40. BAA Rankings 1. Francisco Liriano .196 2. Carlos Zambrano .197 3. Pedro Martinez .202 4. John Lackey .205 5. Chris Young .215 6. Matt Cain .220 7. Johan Santana .220 8. Jason Schmidt .225 9. Mike Mussina .229 10. Chris Carpenter .231 11. Ervin Santana .231 12. Justin Verlander .232 13. Jeff Francis .233 14. Tim Wakefield .233 15. Barry Zito .234 16. Scott Olsen .235 17. Jeremy Bonderman .236 18. Taylor Buchholz .238 19. Jose Contreras .239 20. Josh Beckett .239 When Matt Cain can manage to get the walks down, he's going to be a devastating pitcher in this league. He walks 4.5 batters per 9 IP, but his WHIP is somehow at a slightly above average level (1.35). Lackey has been absolutely incredible. That 1-2-3 of Lackey, Santana, and Weaver will be giving people nightmares for many seasons to come. Jered Weaver's numbers through 40 IP: 1.12 ERA/0.74 WHIP/.162 BAA. Remember when the Angels were written off as a complete suckfest? That has to be your AL West division winner.
  15. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 06:53 PM) See Mark Prior for recent premature enshrinement. I hear you on Prior. That's why it's important to preface everything with "barring injuries..."
  16. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 06:09 PM) A top five duo since 1950? Based on a half a season? Sorry. no. That's cool. What do you think about this statement, though: This is pretty much the basis of my argument. Once in a great while, guys can just step in and establish themselves as all-time greats right off the bat. Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice, Hakeem Olajuwon, Lebron James, Magic Johnson, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, etc. Just a few names that come to mind.
  17. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 05:17 PM) And for someone to say that Liriano/Santana is better than Koufax/Drysdale, Seaver/Ryan, or even Johnson/Schilling in their prime is too extreme and outlandish for my sports sensibilities. No way, dude! I just said that they are arguably a Top 5 duo since 1950, but they would round out that list. Koufax/Drysdale is probably the best duo in the 140+ year history of the game. Plank/Ruffing is the only duo that would come close IMO. Basically, Santana and Liriano are the two best SPs in the game right now, and they are both in the same rotation. When is the last time something like that happened? Forget about the AL triple crown (ERA/WHIP/BAA). These guys are gonna go heads up for the MLB triple crown, and Santana will end up leading the league in Ks. Barring injuries, they'll could go down as the best duo since Koufax/Drysdale. It's not that outlandish. I'm sure that people were saying the same thing about Roger Clemens in 1986. Then again, Doc Gooden was also supposed to become an all-time great, but cocaine is one hell of a drug. Or was he smoking crack? Ahh, same difference.
  18. QUOTE(T R U @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 06:57 AM) How many times as he been picked off first? I really hate that its counted as a SB, IMO I dont think getting picked off is getting caught stealing.. but I know that it goes down as one in the books anways.. So just curious as to what the numbers are on that.. He's been picked off 4 times already, by these pitchers: Sean Marshall Salomon Torres Andy Pettite Cliff Lee s*** man, the more that I look at Podsednik's entire body of work, the more aggravated I get. It's probably time to step away from the computer for a few. Just because Ozzie loses sleep doesn't mean that I have to.
  19. Can I post nude pictures of his wife? Or is that frowned upon?
  20. QUOTE(tealeafreaderii @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 06:20 AM) Bottom line is Bobby is damn fine ball player, living in a very diverse city, playing in a very diverse club house, and his superiors are a Latino, an African American, and a Jew. Quality post. That's why this organization is so awesome.
  21. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 06:07 AM) Yup, I agree with that. You wanna be called a great base stealer, not only must you steal a lot of bases, but you better not get caught a whole lot either. Carlos Beltran, Jose Reyes -- those guys jump out to me as two of the better ones in the game. There are 21 players with 15 or more SBs, and Pods ranks dead last in percentage. 1. Brandon Phillips 94% (16-17) 2. Kenny Lofton 94% (15-16) 3. Ichiro Suzuki 93% (27-29) 4. Derek Jeter 90% (18-20) 5. Brian Roberts 88% (22-25) 6. Chone Figgins 85% (33-39) 7. Dave Roberts 85% (23-27) 8. Corey Patterson 84% (31-37) 9. Hanley Ramirez 84% (26-31) 10. Jimmy Rollins 83% (19-23) 11. Bobby Abreu 82% (18-22) 12. Jose Reyes 81% (39-48) 13. Carl Crawford 80% (32-40) 14. Ryan Freel 80% (20-25) 15. Felipe Lopez 79% (23-29) 16. Johnny Damon 78% (18-23) 17. Richie Weeks 77% (17-22) 18. Juan Pierre 75% (30-40) 19. Alphonso Soriano 74% (20-27) 20. Rafael Furcal 72% (21-29) 21. Scott Podsednik 70% (29-41) That ain't getting it done. I don't care how hot his wife is.
  22. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 06:01 AM) Don't get on his nuts too much HJ. I'm trying not to, but it's awfully hard.
  23. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 05:37 AM) Wite... your smarter than this. I think he watches a s***load of Minnesota games, though. I have gone out of my way to catch a few Liriano starts, and the guy is unreal. I said that Zambrano was the best young pitcher (25 or younger) in the game a few weeks back, and I usually can't stand it when people's opinions change dramatically in a very short period of time, but it looks like I am one of those people. Liriano is the best young pitcher in the game, hands down.
  24. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 12:02 AM) /necessary pot-shot at Sabean Yes, keep piling on. As if the dude doesn't wake up every morning all depressed and what not. Liriano and Santana are both HOF caliber, and could arguably qualify as a top 5 duo since 1950. Koufax/Drysdale Seaver/Ryan Johnson/Schilling Maddux/Glavine Santana/Liriano Think about this: If you had to choose between Maddux/Glavine in their peak years and Liriano/Santana, what would your selection be? Barring injuries, this duo is gonna bring the Twins a few championship trophies. They would straight up mow people down in the playoffs.
