Big Frank
The big guy had himself one hell of a game yesterday. He reached base in all four of his plate appearances with an HR and three walks. That is vintage Frank, right there.

Why can't real fans be negative
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:34 AM) First sentence was good. Second sentence? Not so much. He played the "I'm a bigger fan than you" card.

BobDylan Modern Music "Atrocious"
QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 06:10 PM) I enjoy the sound of vinyl more, i enjoy its distinct sound. Oh word? You're a vinyl head? I'm working on crate #17. I've hit a wall with hip hop, jazz fusion, and reggae, though. Did you ever get that Krown Rulers album off sandbox? I'm getting into a lot of obscure soul nowadays. My jam of the moment is Fantastic Johnny C's "Boogaloo Down Broadway". That track is pure FIRE. They have the full soundclip right here, if you want to hear it: Fantastic Johnny C

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 05:45 AM) Thats not really true at all. Baseball is a lot more of an individual game than football is. A pitcher cant do it all himself but he has a lot more control over a game than a QB does. I don't care about who technically has more control over a game. Quarterbacks are field generals. They control plenty. The whole Kyle Orton argument revolved around "his" winning streak. Were you physically present on planet Earth when all of this was being talked about? I am saying that those Bears fans are philosophically challenged, just like people who put major emphasis on W/L records for SPs. That is the connection. The point: It is a team sport, any way you slice it.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 08:33 PM) The reason it's called the "CY YOUNG" award is because the player it's named after had more wins than anyone in history. It would be ignorant to say that W's mean nothing. You're still missing the big picture, though. Wins are a team statistic. I can't reiterate that enough. Your typical casual fan will look at a W/L record first and foremost to assess a pitcher's value, when that spiff really ain't spiff. I'm not referring to you in particular. I'm just saying, in general. And if you really think about it, that is the same card that dumbass Kyle Orton fans used to play. We're talking about different sports, but the same concept applies. Teams win games, not individuals. And if Jon Garland is an ace, then I'll be a monkey's uncle.

Top 20 in WHIP
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 11:41 PM) John Lackey is 0-3, 7.36 ERA in last four starts. He had an ungodly run in July, but he's cooled off considerably. I'd be happy to face that John Lackey in the playoffs...the question of course will be which one actually shows up. April: 1.13 WHIP/.196 BAA May: 1.14 WHIP/.229 BAA June: 1.07 WHIP/.195 BAA July: 1.04 WHIP/.213 BAA August: 2.36 WHIP/.404 BAA You make a good point. I'm gonna go ahead and write this month off as an anomaly, though. He kicked way too much ass in the first four months.

Top 20 in WHIP
I'm making the minimum 80 IP just so I could get Jered Weaver in there. Never mind the fact that Scott Proctor has a 1.20 WHIP in over 80 innings out of the bullpen, which would technically make him a candidate for the Top 20. Scott effing Proctor. What is up with that guy. Anyway, here it is: WHIP 1. Jered Weaver 0.93 2. Francisco Liriano 1.01 3. Pedro Martinez 1.02 4. Johan Santana 1.03 5. Chris Carpenter 1.08 6. Roy Halladay 1.10 7. Mike Mussina 1.10 8. John Smoltz 1.15 9. Curt Schilling 1.16 10. Dan Haren 1.16 11. Jason Schmidt 1.17 12. Jeff Francis 1.18 13. Brandon Webb 1.20 14. Jose Contreras 1.21 15. Chris Capuano 1.21 16. David Bush 1.21 17. Jeremy Bonderman 1.22 18. Chris Young 1.22 19. Bronson Arroyo 1.22 20. Jake Peavy 1.23 20. CC Sabathia 1.23 There are only 12 guys with a WHIP under 1.20 in the entire MLB as of August 23rd. I know that people like to talk about how Jim Thome is the comeback player of the year, but I disagree. I'd vote for Mike Mussina. I sure as hell don't want to see that dude in the playoffs. Jered Weaver makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. BAA Rankings 1. Jered Weaver .191 2. Pedro Martinez .205 3. Francisco Liriano .206 4. Carlos Zambrano .206 5. Johan Santana .221 6. Jason Schmidt .223 7. Jeff Francis .223 8. Matt Cain .226 9. Josh Johnson .227 10. Chris Young .228 11. Chris Carpenter .235 12. Mike Mussina .238 13. John Lackey .238 14. Ervin Santana .239 15. Scott Kazmir .240 16. Jake Peavy .242 17. Jeremy Bonderman .245 18. Jose Contreras .246 19. John Smoltz .246 20. Scott Olsen .246 Look at the drop-off from #4 to #5. The Angels have three starters in the Top 15. If they can manage to get into the playoffs, I think that they'll have as good of a chance as any other AL team of making it to the World Series. Nobody wants to see that 1-2-3.

Shawn Green to Mets
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 23, 2006 -> 12:35 PM) Just look at the young core the D-Backs have in their lineup right now (They're kind of my 2nd team since I saw them twice last season, and I love their farm system); C - Estrada 1B - Jackson 2B - Hudson SS - Drew 3B - Tracy LF - Gonzo CF - Byrnes / Young RF - Quentin They did very well to dump Green's contract after the season he's had. Now they can re-invest the $$$ they save into some SP. Yep, that positional core kicks ass. It's hard to get excited about the Diamondbacks though, given their lousy pitching environment. They're either gonna have to move those fences WAY back, or assemble an entire staff of extreme groundball pitchers. If I'm a free agent pitcher, I'm not signing with Arizona because my value is gonna go straight to the spiffer. That stadium straight blows. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 23, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) Because Green sucks and is paid way too much? Ayo, that horse is dead.

WTF is wrong with Jays' manager Gibbons?
Hey dumbass, when the manager wants to take you out of a game, you are supposed to hand over the ball and leave quietly without making a scene. QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:46 AM) In July, Gibbons challenged Shea Hillenbrand to a fight after the infielder wrote on the clubhouse bulletin board that the "ship is sinking." Hillenbrand declined to fight and was later traded to San Francisco. Who in their right mind would write some crap like that on the clubhouse chalkboard? What good can possibly come of it? I don't see how anyone can fault Gibbons for his actions. I want a firey coach who will go after guys if they're acting like douchebags.

WTF is wrong with Jays' manager Gibbons?
The Blue Jays organization has a "Get with the program or get your effing ass kicked" type feel to it. I think that it's great. They're just trying to weed out the bad element.

Stolen Bases
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 07:29 PM) Will we face good pitching teams in the playoffs? Detroit maybe. NY is pretty pedestrian and Boston's is not good. It's kind of a rairty, but there aren't really any staffs that scare me into thinking we could get shutdown I fear the Angels. Really, Anaheim and Minnesota are the last teams that I'd want to face in the playoffs. But yeah, bring on Boston and New York.

24 games in 24 days: The tracker
QUOTE(mu mu @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) I say you're not even close, but only because trying to predict a win-loss on every game, over the next 21 games, is a futile effort. Nobody would be close. Nice try, but I ain't buying what you're selling.

Mel Gibson arrested for DUI
QUOTE(SouthsideNorthsideFan @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 02:09 PM) No, there's a correlation between the consumption of fire water and saying stupid crap. If you're saying "stupid crap", you are most likely stupid to begin with. If you are being blatantly honest, it's because your judgement is impaired. Can you see the difference? Some people have a tendency to be blatantly honest even when sober, but I am speaking in terms of general rules.

Javier Vasguez
QUOTE(bigredrudy @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) The worst thing about the trade with Arizona is that we lost Young. He is putting up monster numbers-27 doubles 4 triples and 21 home runs. he is near the top in every hitting category except batting average and it continues to rise. After a slow start he has been on fire. The thing about prospects is whether they improve. As he has gone up the line Young has continued to get better. In A Ball he struck out over 140 times- this year he has only struck out 66 times. And of course Young is fast and a good outfielder. Arizona already has him penciled as their center fielder for 2007 Do you know for certain that he will succeed against major league pitching? Have you ever even seen him play? What exactly do minor league stats mean? Should we put Roberto Petagine in the Hall Of Fame? I love it how people try to make definitive assessments when discussing minor league players. Observe him on the major league level for a lengthy period of time, and then if he's kicking ass, feel free to run your mouth about how you "thought" he'd be great based on some minor league stats. That is a riot in and of itself.
