  1. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 06:03 AM) I honestly find this funny. How come Ross Gload is judged so harshly based on 200 innings 2 years ago, when we were running out guys like Timo and Borchard, yet Pablo Ozuna gets a free pass for playing the same heartbreakingly bad OF for 150 innings the last two seasons? Yeah, I know. I was just being facetious.
  2. QUOTE(Thunderin @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 05:52 AM) I wonder if he could possibly play OF, because I think we need to get him in the lineup more often. Say man, no offense, but maybe you should stop talking about outfield defense for a little while. I noticed that you're the only guy on this site who thinks that Podsednik is capable of playing good defense, and now this. Gload is the worst defensive outfielder in baseball history. That dates back to 1869.
  3. Frank is starting to heat up a little bit. Remember, he was hitting .178 coming into USCF, and now he's at .230 with 12 HR, 29 RBI, and an .830 OPS. He hit HR #460 tonight. He now has two straight games with an HR. I was pissed to see his career OPS fall from .996 to .989, but now it's back up to .992. Let's hope that he can stay healthy enough to get 400 to 450 ABs. He only has 3 doubles thus far, which is an indication that he ain't trying to force the issue. He probably has some of those off-the-wall type singles. And I mean literally off the wall.
  4. QUOTE(Dan @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 04:08 AM) i have never seen our team or players be the continued center of attention. I have like 25 magazines with Frank Thomas on the cover. Ayo Denim Dan, what's up with the canadian tuxedo??
  5. Here's the article. It's too bad that I can't find the picture of the amazing grab. It really gives you an idea of how impressive his vertical is.
  6. 5 straight games with an SB. 20/21 = 95.2% success rate Did anyone see that catch that he made the other night to rob what's his face of a 3 run HR? Does anyone have video footage of that s***? There was a picture of it in the Trib today. That dude has mad hops.
  7. QUOTE(Sox1422 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) If we are talking all baseball here, Brandon Webb has been phenomenal lately. Pick any one of these guys on the strength of their May numbers: CC Sabathia (1.20 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, .205 BAA) Jason Schmidt (1.17 ERA, 0.78 WHIP, .180 BAA) Brandon Webb (1.80 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, .252 BAA) Carlos Zambrano (1.90 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, .155 BAA) Pedro Martinez (2.24 ERA, 0.74 WHIP, .167 BAA) Mike Mussina (2.53 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, .196 BAA) Josh Johnson (1.96 ERA, 1.01 WHIP. .195 BAA) Justin Verlander (1.73 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, .258 BAA) These dudes are on fire. They make Roy Halladay's May numbers look merely above average, and Roy pitched great.
  8. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 08:27 PM) I'm soooo sick of the friggin' Beatles...and of that friggin' Hendrix guy. Dude, have you ever heard Jimi's "BBC Sessions" 2CD set that was (finally) officially released in the late 90s? That compilation is absolutely phenomenal. I put together a live 1967 comp almost entirely from that 2CD set. I also used the Stockholm soundboard. 1. Driving South (Top Gear 10/17/67) 2. Hey Joe (Saturday Club 2/13/67) 3. Purple Haze (Top Of The Pops 3/2/67) 4. The Wind Cries Mary (Stockholm 9/5/67) 5. Burning Of The Midnight Lamp (Top Gear 10/6/67) 6. Love Or Confusion (Saturday Club 2/13/67) 7. Spanish Castle Magic (Top Gear 12/15/67) 8. Catfish Blues (Top Gear 10/6/67) 9. Driving South #2 (Top Gear 10/6/67) 10. Jammin' (Top Gear 10/6/67) 11. Purple Haze (Stockholm 9/5/67) 12. Hey Joe (Stockholm 9/5/67) 13. Manic Depression (Saturday Club 4/17/67) 14. Hear My Train A Comin' (Top Gear 12/15/67) I'm working on a few others. I have enough great instrumentals (both live and studio) to make a 3CD set. There are about 20 essential soundboards from 1967-1970, I'd say. Half of them have been officially released by the Hendrix family/Dagger Records, albeit in very limited quantities. The Ottawa 1968 concert is his best IMO. There are some shows with BB King from 1968 that are almost entirely instrumental, and they're outstanding. Give his entire catalog a listen, and if you still don't like it, perhaps Classic Rock is not your cup of tea. What am I saying, I already know it's not.
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) For my money, the leader at the gate has to be James Thome. Oh yeah yeah, good point.
  10. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) I find it amusing that Pods is supposedly the worst defensive CF ever, but still played there for two seasons and beat out Brady Clark, who has been playing there over the past two years. I guess that makes Clark worse than awful, huh? I wonder why he's still in the majors, since he has no power, little speed, and can barely hit for average. God, it's this Milwaukee Brewers crap over and over and over again. He has played over 150 games in a Sox uniform. We have had plenty of opportunities to judge is defensive capabilities, and the guy just flat out sucks. HE SUCKS. But you keep on keepin' on, despite the fact that damn near everyone is trying to tell you otherwise. I'm starting to think that you're of German descent. I'm like 75% German, and quite a few of my family members are highly intelligent, egotistical snobs who will never concede that they are wrong, no matter how stupid the argument is.
  11. Minimum: 50 IP 1. Pedro Martinez 0.81 2. Jose Contreras 0.86 3. Mike Mussina 0.96 4. CC Sabathia 0.97 5. Jason Schmidt 1.02 6. Roy Halladay 1.03 7. Brandon Webb 1.05 8. Curt Schilling 1.08 9. Javier Vazquez 1.10 10. Justin Verlander 1.10 11. Josh Johnson 1.10 12. Tom Glavine 1.10 13. Bronson Arroyo 1.11 14. Derek Lowe 1.11 15. Jarrod Washburn 1.12 16. John Lackey 1.13 17. Johan Santana 1.13 18. Danny Haren 1.13 19. Jake Peavy 1.14 20. Chris Capuano 1.15 Chris Capuano's streak of 11 consecutive quality starts came to an end this past week in Pittsburgh & he went from Top 10 in WHIP to barely making the Top 20. If his 2006 BB rate is any indication, he'll be good to go for the long run. Who had a better May: Jason Schmidt or CC Sabathia? Both guys were lights out. Jason put up a line of 1.17 ERA/0.78 WHIP/.180 BAA, while CC put up a line of 1.20 ERA/0.93 WHIP/.205 BAA. Brandon Webb has 10 walks in 89 IP, and his BAA is now down to .255. Talk about a remarkable turnaround. Josh Johnson is sporting a .190 BAA, good enough for Top 3 in the majors. Is this kid for real, or what? Here are the BAA rankings: 1. Pedro Martinez .167 2. Jose Contreras .187 3. Josh Johnson .190 4. Carlos Zambrano .202 5. Jason Schmidt .202 6. CC Sabathia .210 7. Mike Mussina .212 8. Barry Zito .213 9. John Lackey .215 10. Chris Young .215 11. Jeff Francis .220 12. Tom Glavine .220 13. Derek Lowe .222 14. Sean Marshall .223 15. Matt Cain .226 16. Javier Vazquez .230 17. Josh Beckett .232 18. Tim Wakefield .232 19. Bronson Arroyo .233 20. Cris Carpenter .237 Matt Cain is showing some signs. The rest of his numbers are pretty terrible, but he has a Top 15 BAA in the majors. Chris Young has a respectable ERA (3.80), but his BAA (.215) and WHIP (1.16) are terrific. I almost want to say that he's the most underrated starter in the majors. Seriously, nobody outside of your typical hardcore baseball nerd knows who he is. Carlso Zambrano's stuff is damn near unhittable, although he has walked nearly 50 batters in 76 IP. His walk rates in 2004 and 2005 were much, much better. He's gonna have a Schmidt/Sabathia type month at some point during this season, and his ERA and WHIP will both be Top 20. He could have the best BAA in the majors outside of Pedro and Count by the time the season comes to a close. And Mike Mussina continues to own people. That's your legitimate comeback player of the year.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 06:44 PM) There are a lot of prospects who light up the minors, and get boned in the majors. You mean like when they finally reach the majors, they get ass-raped? Is that a part of rookie hazing?
  13. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) Back from Cleveland. What a s***hole. Word. Talk about an eye sore. I went there for a Browns game back in 2002, and it took us almost an hour to find a liquor store. They have like two liquor stores in that entire f***ing city, and not one in the downtown area.
  14. I usually hate lists like these anyway, mostly because of the bootlegs. For instance: Revolving>>>Revolver Revolving has 60 tracks on it. You get all of the raw versions minus overdubs, outtakes, demos, the entire mono album, etc. And you can make a case like this for any one of their albums. Really, I have no use for the official albums.
  15. Where can I find the Top 100 list?
  16. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) But, I get a bigger kick out of (back in the day) watching a 1990's Frank Thomas fouling off pitch after pitch, in a sort of chess-match with the pitcher, looking for the ONE pitch he can drive, and then like clockwork, gets the pitch and smokes it to deepest left-center for a home-run, knowing you were right there with him, pitch-for-pitch, knowing what he was thinking, what he was doing, and for a quick moment, Celebrating that blast with Big Frank, in a small way knowing what it must feel like to hit a ball 475 feet to LeftCenter for a homerun. Nice. Hey, I like this guy.
  17. I could play better OF defense that wack-ass Scotty Pods, and I'm just some random asshole on an internet message board who hasn't played organized baseball since his sophomore year of high school. And Ned Yost would most likely agree. God damn NEWBS. Start watching some games. If you live in Oregon or underneath a rock, get yourself a motherf***ing MLB package already.
  18. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 29, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) "Small Wang Johnson." God damn it, why didn't I think of that username.
  19. His BAA was at .333 a couple of weeks ago, and now, it's down to .322. Hey, it's a step in the right direction.
  20. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ May 29, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) But what is more impressive than Jimmy's 20 bombs is that our 3, 4 and 5 hitter make up 3 of the top 8 on that list. That is what they call "mashing"! It's a beautiful thing.
  21. AL HR Rankings 1. Jim Thome 20 2. Paul Konerko 15 3. Troy Glaus 15 4. Nick Swisher 14 5. Jonny Gomes 14 6. Travis Hafner 14 7. David Ortiz 14 8. Jermaine Dye 13 9. Álex Rodríguez 13 10. Miguel Tejada 13 10. Vladimir Guerrero 13 The guy is just a monster.
