QUOTE(WCSox @ May 15, 2006 -> 06:41 PM) I think Pedro Martinez will get into Cooperstown. OMG, you're really going out on a limb with this statement.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 15, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) Actually Pedro still is Cy Young material, I'm not sure why people don't think he is anymore, he's 5-0 with a 3.19 ERA and a .86 WHIP! (sick). Other than WcSox, who thinks that he's not an ace? He only leads the majors in WHIP and strikeouts.

Top 10 Disappointing SPs

Danny Haren had a masterful start in New York on Sunday afternoon. He pitched a CG, and he only gave up one run on six hits and no walks. His overall numbers as of now: (4.40 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, .259 BAA) He had a 5.00+ ERA in 48 IP going into this game. Zach Duke had another bulls*** start (against the Marlins), so he currently stands alone in the 10 slot. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 15, 2006 -> 07:12 PM) I'd say Josh Towers ~ Bruce Chen. LOL, you're right. If you look at their numbers, they appear to be the same pitcher. Towers (8.45 ERA, 1.85 WHIP, .351 BAA, 20K/38IP) Chen (8.42 ERA, 1.90 WHIP, .359 BAA, 18K/31IP) -

QUOTE(SoxAce @ May 15, 2006 -> 04:12 AM) I know it's your opinion, so I'm just gonna say I agree with basically everyone listed except this kid. Barely his first FULL year in the bigs and he's on a list with alot of quality pitchers who have been in the league for years? I don't agree with Blanton and Duke eigher, even though Blanton is worse right now. I'll take Duke and King Felix's era over say the others right now. Sheets, Burnett have got to be on there. And like another poster said, Oliver Perez has so much friggin potential and GREAT stuff, yet he can't even get a good era in the bigs (1 good year.) Man you talk about a waste of talent. With Sheets and Burnett, the sample size is just way too small, so I didn't even consider them. I know that Felix is young and all, but consider these splits: Home: (2.55 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, .211 BAA) Road: (7.98 ERA, .218 WHIP, .369 BAA) Without the benefit of Safeco, he's back in the minors by now. QUOTE(knightni @ May 15, 2006 -> 06:20 AM) Randy Johnson... maybe? He's a strong contender for the Top 10. He still has a respectable WHIP (1.31) and a decent BAA (.265). His strikeouts are WAY down. I honestly didn't expect much coming into this year just based on his age (43). QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 15, 2006 -> 07:27 AM) I expected more out of Eric Bedard so far. Looks like the Mazzone effect hasn't quite kicked in in Baltimore yet. Daniel Cabrera as well. That Baltimore rotation is scary bad. Bruce Chen is arguably the worst starter in the majors. -

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 14, 2006 -> 01:06 AM) I'm adding 2 to the list Carlos Silva(8.23 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, .355 BAA) AJ Burnett(6.30 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, .279 BAA, 10 IP) I made mention of this last night in a different thread about Silva, but all the same. His K/BB is actually decent - 3.00 - but that's because he hands out walks people like he's playing softball. The fact remains that he has 12 K's in 42.2 IP...Flash Gordon has twice as many in 16 innings. Burnett's obviously a disappointment because he is bringing in $60 mill and has pitched 10 innings. That's just pure ouch. Carlos Silva gave up 9 walks in 188 IP last year, which IIRC was the 7th best ratio in the history of the majors. I read it somewhere, but I can't recall the source. I considered Burnett, but he's been injured pretty much all season, so I left him off. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 14, 2006 -> 02:52 AM) If Duke's not on your fantasy team, he doesn't make that list. How about guys who were expected to be decent rotation filler, and end up sucking worse than the suckiest suck? Rodrigo Lopez, Jeff Weaver, Matt Cain. And don't forget Tim Hudson. He's had a couple stellar outings to bring his overall numbers down, but when a guy of his pedigree has a pattern of games that reminds you more of Daniel Cabrera than Tim freaking Hudson, that's a disappointment. I considered Hudson, but he was saved by a good WHIP (1.27) and a respectable BAA (.251). His numbers started to look much better once I got to the Pettites, Garlands, Blantons, Radkes, etc. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 14, 2006 -> 06:19 AM) Zambrano has been hurting my teams, 1-2 with an ERA of about 4...so if you want to take the "Cub hate" angle, he's the guy you'd look at . He got off to an atrocious start, but he leads the NL in strikeouts with 54 (second in the MLB to Johan's 58), has a damn good BAA (.233), and his ERA is now under 4.00. That WHIP (1.54) is still pathetic, though. -
IMO, of course. List yours too. 1. Brad Radke (7.75 ERA, 1.70 WHIP, .360 BAA) 2. Jon Garland (6.75 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, .333 BAA) 3. Andy Pettite (5.66 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, .318 BAA) 4. Dontrelle Willis (6.22 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, .305 BAA) 5. Joe Blanton (6.38 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, .310 BAA) 6. Livan Hernandez (6.52 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, .307 BAA) 7. Kevin Millwood (5.13 ERA, 1.46 WHIP. .304 BAA) 8. Matt Morris (6.20 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, .284 BAA) 9. Felix Hernandez (4.58 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, .277 BAA) 10. Dan Haren ((5.03 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, .270 BAA) 10. Zach Duke (4.02 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, .268 BAA) I have a 10th place tie between Dan Haren and Zach Duke. I expected a healthy Matt Morris to pitch well in SF based on his first half numbers from last year, but it's not working out thus far. Brad Radke is only 33 years old. It's not like he's over-the-hill. He has to turn it around at some point, but his numbers are atrocious right now. That's actually an understatement. Most of these guys play in great pitching conditions (Willis, Blanton, L. Hernandez, Morris, F. Hernandez, Haren, Duke, etc), so their numbers are all the more disturbing. If your BAA is up over .300, you're just killing your team. Garland is at .333 right now.

The Cubs went into the 9th inning with a 3-1 lead, and Mike Piazza hit a 3 run HR. Cubs vs Padres They have now lost 13 or their last 15.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 13, 2006 -> 03:50 AM) Just a question here. Before this season, and be honest here, who thought Rowand was going to get back to his 2004 hitting and not what he did last season? Not me. Theoretically, if you were to give him a steady diet of low-and-away breaking balls, he woule be toast. But I don't watch Phillies games on a regular basis, so maybe he learned how to hit a breaking ball this offseason.
-
Rowand and BA are both amazing out there in CF as far as I can tell. BA's defensive upside is through the roof.
-
QUOTE(Jimbo @ May 12, 2006 -> 06:37 AM) I think BA could run into the crowd and down a beer and make out with a fat chick and then be able to make that catch...wow im weird tonight. That's exactly right.
-
QUOTE(Jimbo @ May 12, 2006 -> 06:26 AM) Would BA make the same effort that Rowand did?? Umm, with BA's gazelle-like strides, he's camped underneath that ball before it ever even comes close to landing.

QUOTE(Wanne @ May 12, 2006 -> 05:39 AM) Dude....it's a joke. Never seen Animal House? Eh, I've seen parts of it. Is that a Belushi quote?

Here you go. Heads posted it in the other Rowand thread. http://www.philliesphans.com/phorum/viewtopic.php?t=33454

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 12, 2006 -> 05:04 AM) So, according, repeatedly, to ESPN tonight, Crash actually requested that the Phillies install some padding on that section of the fence. The padding was delivered this week, and was due for install next week. That's hilarious. On the PhilliesPhan site, some dude said that the padding would be dedicated to the memory or Aaron Rowand's face. Oh yeah, and some other dude had a brain cramp and said that Germans bombed Pearl Harbor. Great site.
-
Apparently, Aaron Rowand's mere presence on that team makes people hate the lollygaggin' Bobby Abreu with a passion. That's awesome.

QUOTE(quickman @ May 12, 2006 -> 04:03 AM) I am not sure why everyone is so on edge personally attacking others. its really quite ok to dissagree with people. I think our minor league system blows. Others might like it. its no big deal really. What I see happening here is people jumping on others personally because they don't like them rather than not liking there opinion or post. its a shame, the site is slowly alienating people rather than including them. Didn't seem the case a couple of years ago. Just an observation. And it's all Jim's fault.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 11, 2006 -> 11:20 PM) incorrect I don't count any of Giambi's numbers.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 11, 2006 -> 08:20 PM) Do people remember seeing him in Spring Training? He was absolutely awful. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 11, 2006 -> 08:25 PM) Montero has the honor of being one of the first players suspended by MLB for steriod use last season. You guys are killing my buzz.

QUOTE(The-Legend-Of-Pujols @ May 11, 2006 -> 01:40 AM) The Sox are like the Detroit Pistons of Baseball because they dont have one "Superstar" on there team. And keep your heads up because almost every single one of the whitesox starters deserves to be in the Allstar Game but you know as well as I do that its a popularity contest. Atleast my man Albert Pujols is leading the majors in HR's and RBI's. I hope he is MVP again and goes down as the greatest ever! Jose Contreras is arguably the best starter in the entire MLB right now, and the primary reason why we won the World Series last year. How does he not qualify as a superstar again? Doesn't he currently have a 13 game winning streak going, plus the AL Triple Crown (ERA, WHIP, BAA)????? Oh yeah, and this is not to mention that Thome leads the AL in HR, RBI, OPS, etc. Again, he's not a superstar? And in the end, the saddest part of your post is that you don't recognize Ben Wallace as a superstar when he is a TOP 10 DEFENDER IN THE HISTORY OF THE NBA. Good God.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 11, 2006 -> 03:40 AM) Of course, we are 0-1 when hammerhead starts a thread about how friggin amazing we are with our regular lineup. That's a .000 winning percentage. .000 winning percentage = f***ing brutal Although, I actually place more blame on the dude who started the game thread. You see, he named himself after Timo Perez. That's just bad karma. -

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ May 11, 2006 -> 03:25 AM) maybe we shouldn't have had a thread about this if anyone's supersticious. Dude, 10-1 is an awesome f***ing record. Accoring to my math, that is a .909 winning percentage. -

QUOTE(PWSox87 @ May 10, 2006 -> 10:04 PM) Hard to call it "regular" when its been used only 30% of the time. Right, I suppose that "Opening Day Lineup" would have been better. -
Wow.
