You have to be country retarded to pick Papelbon. I mean, what the f*** is that. I'll go with Alex Rodriguez if you let me stick him back at SS.

I did the math and uhh, yeah...we're pretty f***ing good.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 11:14 PM) It would suck to go to the 9th up a run at the Jake, and be forced to rely on Politte & Cotts. Really? I'd say that Cotts is back in 2005 mode if his last 5 appearances are any indication. His upside = elite closer. I mean, s***, only one HR allowed in 60 IP last year? That's remarkable. Also: 2005: 4.5 BB/9 IP (1.94 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, .179 BAA) 2006: 2.7 BB/9 IP If he can continue to keep the walks down, he will turn out to be even more effective than he was last year, which is a scary thought. I have no problem with Cotts closing games for me.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 1, 2006 -> 12:49 AM) It's too bad we have Thome at DH, he really sucks. Bring back Frank!!! We need him!!! He's ON FIRE this year!! And this needed to be posted because...? Is it possible to have any Frank Thomas threads around here without some knucklehead trying to ruin them?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 07:03 PM) Well, I have no comment on the wife. But he is better defensively than Manny Ramirez, for example. Manny stinks even when he makes an effort, which is rarely. Last year, Pods was in the top half of baseball LF's in FPCT, was 2nd in Range Factor, and 4th in ZR. Now, we all realize is arm is less than stellar, and he had only 3 OF Assists (definitely lower half). And those stats are certainly not he entire picture. But as an overall defender, Pods is just not as bad as the complainers like to think. Is that interesting enough for you, sarcasmo? I am a lot more concerned about his failures on the basepaths right now than I am about his defense. Well, Manny Ramirez is a glorified DH on 13 out of 14 AL teams, but his fielding instincts are still better than whatever Pods is bringing to the table, which ain't saying much. Who else? You might have an argument with Adam Dunn, another glorified DH. I suppose that Pods is on the same level as some big lumbering sluggers who don't have a position other than LF (and can't play 1B), but the Cincinatti Reds (for instance) realize that Dunn is a major liablility on defense, and they're willing to live with the negatives as long as the dude continues to produce at the plate.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 03:07 PM) The manager should pretend that they knew nothing of it, if it was premeditated then suspensions come down. Exactly. Whatchoo talking about, Greg? Did you just start watching baseball this past October? Playing dumb is without question the smartest move.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 03:46 PM) Pods is certainly not at the same level as BA or even JD defensively, but he is better than a number of other MLB left fielders. Oh really? Like who? This ought to be interesting. He didn't get a regular job in the majors until he was 27, correct? What do you think kept him down there for so long? The guy couldn't judge a non-routine fly ball to save his life. He can't field grounders out there in LF, and his arm is terrible. He's a career AAA player who somehow slipped through the cracks. A product of expansion. There is no way in hell that a guy with such terrible fundamentals should be on the major league level. It boggles my mind. Also, his wife showed her vagina to a bunch of complete strangers. I can't seem to find any positives right now. I'll get back to y'all.

Here's a picture of Jose Contreras circa 1982. IMO, he looks pretty much the same as he does now.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 12:45 AM) Heck of a pickup for my fantasy team too. I could have have had him, but I opted for guys like Brad Wilkerson and Jeff Francouer instead. My team sucks balls.

Minimum: 25 IP 1. Greg Maddux 0.73 WHIP 2. John Patterson 0.86 WHIP 3. Mark Buehrle 0.89 WHIP 4. Jose Contreras 0.90 WHIP 5. Curt Schilling 0.92 WHIP 6. Bronson Arroyo 0.92 WHIP 7. Javier Vazquez 0.93 WHIP 8. Pedro Martinez 0.94 WHIP 9. Chris Capuano 0.94 WHIP 10. Brad Penny 0.97 WHIP 11. Randy Johnson 0.99 WHIP 12. Jarrod Washburn 0.99 WHIP 13. Mike Mussina 1.00 WHIP 14. David Bush 1.00 WHIP 15. Kyle Davies 1.01 WHIP 16. Jeremy Bonderman 1.02 WHIP 17. Cris Carpenter 1.03 WHIP 18. Justin Verlander 1.10 WHIP 19. Roy Oswalt 1.10 WHIP 20. Jason Marquis 1.11 WHIP Last year, through 45 IP, Bronson Arroyo had a 1.07 WHIP. Off all the starters in the MLB, that guy confuses me the most. Last Year's Thread Check out where Zack Greinke ranked through 45 IP as well. His is pretty much the saddest story in baseball right now IMO. Chris Capuano is going to make a believer out of me if he continues to keep the walks down. Not one Oakland A in the Top 20? It's early and all, but that's still pretty messed up.

QUOTE(Walker2Baines @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 07:36 AM) This from Baseball Reference's Similar Pitchers through Age 26 John Candelaria (957) Mike Hampton (949) Mark Mulder (945) Jim Merritt (944) Tom Glavine (942) Bill Monbouquette (940) Ross Grimsley (939) Dave McNally (937) Mark Gubicza (936) Tony Cloninger (935) Of those listed only Glavine will make the HOF. Others fizzled out for whatever reason. So please stop this BS about MB. He's nothing about a crybaby. Hey MB great game vs Seattle. Hey are they cheating??? Wow, C.Rector really knows how to find the definitive evidence. God damn are you good.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 06:25 PM) Im so glad we are on the same wavelength here. The girl holding the credit card was one of the best pieces of ass they ever hired. She was tiny, well stacked, and nice as hell. They all wore tight outfits and I loved it. What the f***...same wavelength? You're on the same wavelength as damn near two billion other motherf***ers. You act like you're in some secret titty-loving society. Got room for like 500 million Chinese dudes?

DJ still sucks pretty hard. Also, if my dad and my grandfather had accounts here and could comment on this, they'd have been banned by now. Comedic value? Sure, once in a while. Broadcasting Skills? Yeah, right. Maybe people are switching back and forth between AM radio and TV, and therefore, by default, they appreciate DJ moreso after having heard the gift of gab displayed by one Chris Singleton.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 03:46 AM) By the way, am I the only person who thinks that Schilling is a bigger blowhard than Bonds? I'm assuming that I am, but I can live with that. No, you're probably right. Schilling is a complete f***head on a personal level. He makes Roger Clemens look like Jim Thome. -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 05:04 AM) Van Halen?! f*** them, he stole Valerie Bertinelli from me, the bastard Tex is dated.

QUOTE(BoKnows @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 05:02 AM) Hair bands that I think are missing from this list: Poison Europe Cinderella Dokken My vote would be for Poison. Big Hair and Bad Metal s*** man, I don't think that anyone remembers the last three. I was heavily involved in the terrible late 80s rock scene, as was everyone else around me, and I didn't know anybody who owned their albums. I'd actually go with groups like Whitesnake, Motley Crue, etc. That terrible dated crap that people could remember because of the videos and such... Poison is a perfect choice.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 04:34 AM) Van Halen is a stretch also. Man, I remember buying their Greatest Hits CD on the strength of "Runnin With The Devil". Tracks 2 through 17 on that disc are straight booty. The Sammy Hagar era produced some of the cheesiest love songs that I've ever heard in my life. I'll go with a Michael Bolton/Kenny G duet over 99.9% of Van Halen's catalog. I s*** you not.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 04:34 AM) Though I am not and never was a fan, GnR really doesn't rate a "Hair Band". They have always been more just straight up RnR. Axl only ratted his hair out in the very early days, but quickly stopped doing it. Nobody else in the band ever did. While I'm pretty f***ing far from being a GnR fan, I have to admit that their songs are well-produced. They definitely stand the test of time. That's why they're going to blow everyone away in this poll. Def Leppard, on the other hand? Are people still buying Golden Age Def Leppard albums? I think that you have to be complete strokes in retrospect in order to win a poll like this, and they definitely qualify. Motley Crue might have what it takes to win as well, but I heard that they do okay in repressed album sales.

I had a Def Leppard t-shirt.

And check out Greg Maddux. He's ranked #2 in the entire freaking MLB.

Aside from a few strips that some posters have in their signatures, these are all new to me. Damn near all of them are hilarious, but for some reason, this one made me laugh the hardest, primarily due to Ivan's before-and-after facial expressions.
