    300 trailer

It's only based on Frank Miller's novel. That means this film adaptation could be anything. Just from the preview it looks like a CGI and special effects fest. The strength of Sin City was that it took so much from Millers book, whether it be the storyline or actual graphics Miller drew. Rodriguez worked hard to pay respects to Miller and the book. It showed. The movie felt like a comic book. (The wonderful casting didn't hurt either. Mickey Rourke was fantastic.) Zack Snyder is the director, he hasn't done much, but I thought Dawn of the Dead (2004 version) was decent enough. I don't think 300 will be half as much as Sin City though. It looks like it could be the old, tiresome glorified mid-evil routine.
  4. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) Im sorry but I do not want to see JD anywhere but RF. Leave him over there and make "PLAYER X" play LF Agreed, but as long as we're talking about it, if the Sox somehow landed Ichiro I think you move JD to LF. Ichiro is as good as right fielders come. The only change I'd ask Ichiro to make is to CF.
  5. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) The guy's an absolute joke in the field and he was a joke on the basepaths last year to boot. I understand that. But to say a guy like Ross Gload can get plugged in and immediately be a better fielder is a bigger joke, IMO.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 01:07 PM) I will point out that Beckett pitched in a notorious pitchers park while Carlos has done what he has in a hitters park. I don't know if I'd go as far as to call Wrigley a hitters park. When that wind blows in, it's just as much a pitchers park as anywhere.
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) Ross Gload would be better than Pods out there in left field. Not a question in my mind. ^^^^^ SoxTalk hype on Podsednik's defense.
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 09:37 PM) Um... SoxTalk hype? I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority who want to see Gload start, and would be OK with him in LF. The hype is in the other corner on this argument. And I do think that, if he played regularly, he be as good as or better than Pods in LF. Will he ever be a great, or even above average defender out there? Probably not. Maybe more like average at best. I watched him play LF, in person, in ST this year. The guy isn't as horrible out there as people sometimes think (people are, I think, overinfluenced by a series of awful plays in RF against the Cubs some time ago). If you've seen him, which I fully believe you have, I have doubts about your scouting abilities. Ross Gload is an infielder. He's never had a full season in the outfield while in the majors (and I believe also while in the minors), while Scott Podesnik has played years and years and then more years in the outfield, and that includes CF duties. Scotty Pods might not be good in comparison to other outfielders, but for the love of god, a baseball player isn't meant to be judged on having been seen once, twice or three times (unless the guy is ungodly). Gload doesn't have an above average arm, he doesn't have above average speed, and given that he has had such limited time in LF, he doesn't have the experience to get the jumps or reads Podsednik made, regardless of how poor he was. LF might be the easiest position to play in the majors, but when you look at how sad the Sox defense was last year, the last thing I want to see is Ross Gload, the first baseman, patrolling a position that was already pretty poor last year. If there is anyone off the bench that should be mentioned for LF consideration, it's Rob Mackowiak.
  9. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) Gload would be a wash defensively at worst (or, he may improve), and a large offensive upgrade. And he'll cost a sixth what Pierre will go for. Way to buy into the SoxTalk hype. There is no, NO way Ross Gload is a better defensive LFer than either Scott Podsednik or Juan Pierre. Ross is a solid firstbasement but the only reason he touches the outfield is because Ozzie Guillen likes to make people ask the question "why?".
  10. Man, it's amazing how quickly people turn on a player. "Did he just throw a palm ball to 1B? ... Yea, he did. ... What a worthless piece of garbage. TRADE HIM!" You'd think with all the Garland's and Crede's and Konerko's and Dye's that people around here would learn to reserve judgment for a little longer. I guess not.

  13. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) Actually his style of writing is arguably tougher than the suck up to get an interview style of many columnists. You could basically rewrite a team press release, and call it a day. By pissing fans off daily, he opens himself up to this sort of criticism. He has to be more accurate and have a better base of supporting facts than to come out and write in a Chicago paper, the Bears will win the super bowl. A fluff piece like that a couple times a week would have the sheep-like fans calling him a genious and never questioning anything he writes. Agreed. He's a talented journalist. But the man needs to do his research before hitting the keyboard.
  14. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 06:36 PM) A-Rod isn't coming to the White Sox folks. Get over it. Boras and KW don't like each other. I also can't see Ozzie and A-Rod getting along. Boras is an agent. Nothing more. If A-Rod wants to come here, he can come here. He already has a contract, and he's already locked up. And regardless, there is no way in hell A-Rod ever sniffs a 250 million dollar contract again.

  16. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 09:33 PM) I wouldn't say Mark is a clutch playoff pitcher. Same probably for Garcia and Yankee fans don't think Contreras can handle the NY pressure. And yes, the fans do pay the bills. If the fans don't come, you wouldn't see that big payroll. The fans don't pay the bills. Endorsements do.
  17. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) They won't try to get rid of him. Are they going to shop him? Of course, but they're not looking to "dump" him. "Dumping" and "trading" are two very different things. Unless someone wows them, they're not going to trade A-Rod, much less pay any of his contract. I'm sorry, but if you get two solid major leaguers and a top prospect, you're not "dumping" a player. There isn't a player in this league I'd trade 4 pivotal pieces of my team for just one "star" in return. They might get a better offer than Garcia + Crede + Broadway/McCarthy, but it's not going to be much better. And whichever team offers that had better have one hell of a plan to replace all that lost talent. A-Rod might be a great player but when you look at the total package I'm not even sure he's worth Garcia, Crede and a prospect.
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 12:11 AM) We need players that care about losing. All the Yankees were just standing around in the dugout and didn't look upset after the loss today. They still have their millions regardless. Konerko should go to the Yankees because that is exactly how he was acting at the end of this season. God forbid a team captain to be quiet a humble. What do you want the Yankees to do? Throw water coolers and beat people in the stands with their bats? Hell, these guys aren't even allowed to grow beards. Steinbrinner wants them to represent class. It's one thing if a team isn't putting out a good effort, but Paul Konerko and that Yankees team put out all their effort. Yelling and screaming about losing is just poor sportsmanship. Either your best is good enough or it isn't. Going on a rampage after losing only makes you look like an ass.

  20. QUOTE(VAfan @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 08:39 PM) The Yankee fans are ready to ride A-Rod out of town on a rail. But I can't believe Yankee management is going to be willing to part with him. In 2006, he had an off season, and still had a .914 OPS. The year before, he was third in baseball in OPS. If I were the Sox, I'd make an offer -- Garcia, Fields, Broadway sounds about right (I don't suppose they would have any use for Uribe, would they?) -- but I wouldn't hold my breath. The Yankees would probably want Buehrle, and as bad as he was this year for us, there's no way I would ship him off to NY. So, fantasize all you want. It's the offseason for us (and the Yankees). But don't expect A-Rod to get moved anytime soon. Nor do I. He's an offensive machine regardless of what his postseason tells you. I also don't think the Yankees would even be mildly interested in prospects. I think a front line starter absolutely has to be had for the Yankees. Freddy Garcia isn't that. Mark Buehrle could be an option, but given how pitching continues to dominate in the post-season, I can't see the Sox eager to part ways with Buehrle.
  21. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 08:22 PM) I know I'm not the biggest sox know it all, but why crede? I know the Yanks would love him, but seems like the sox or angels would holding the cards in this one. my guess would be high level prospects to retool the yanks system and vasquez. Why would the Yankees want Vazquez back? He sucked there. He sucked in Arizona and he sucked here. The Yankees have had a big problem bringing in high priced pitchers that suck ... and then some that don't even play.
  22. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 07:50 PM) Would they want Fields? (Assuming we can sign Crede) I would guess they'd ask for Crede.
  23. If the White Sox could pitch an offer to the Yankees (and of course the Yankees would pick up a MEATY portion of his contract) what level would that pitch need to be in? And, is A-Rod a player worth having?
