  1. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 06:13 AM) What was your impression of the book? Have you read any of his other stuff? I've yet to give it a read, er, listen. As far as Dawkins, I've never read any of his stuff. I'm more of a fiction guy.
  2. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 06:19 AM) I'm sure you're not the only one who holds that opinion, but I would disagree with that opinion. I like most of the songs on Hot Fuss, although I'm disappointed with the new disc. I like the "retro alternative" sound of the Killers, Interpol, She Wants Revenge, and so on, but I can certainly understand how some people wouldn't like it. I love Interpol and I thought the Strokes first album was good. But as more and more retro 80's bands came out, it smelled more like a Gap trend then anything else. Turn On The Bright lights is one of the best albums of this century, IMO. Is This It? brought in the pop charm. From there I'd rather listen to my Duran Duran records.
  3. QUOTE(danman31 @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 02:59 AM) I was hugely disappointed with the new album. I was really excited for it when I heard the single When You Were Young, but the rest of the album is mediocre. Sam's Town is a great song, but beyond that it's very average. I hate how they have these meaningless enterlude/exitludes. Oddly enough DBAH0, Uncle Johnny was probably my least favorite song on the album. To be fair, I don't think it was going to be possible for them to come out with an album that would approach the quality of Hot Fuss. Maybe it's just me, but I've thought that every song The Killers has made is complete trash.
  4. I have the audio book of this if anyone is interested in listening to it. PM me and we'll figure out a way to get it in your hands.
  5. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 12:53 PM) BTW...when I moved down here, I learned that it wasn't spelled "y'all," it's actually spelled "ya'll." Not that anyone cared. /thread hijacking That makes no sense though.
  6. Man, you people have a lot of f***ed up computers. The only problem I have is keeping the s*** I eat off the keyboard.
  7. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 12:03 AM) Mainly because I would hate to see Crede go. Actually I think we need pitching more then we need Arod. We do. But A-Rod is A-Rod.
  8. QUOTE(bmags @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) is arod really a downgrade defensively at short? Yes. I'm too lazy right now to tell you why. Sorry.
  9. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 06:21 PM) I don't see it.. BMac is already on the team, so there's no "+" next to his name. Losing Crede is a minus, offensively and defensively. ARod figures to be a downgrade defensively at short, negating some of the offense that you pick up, with the dropoff from Crede to Fields picking up the rest. The pitching staff is comprised of a bunch of guys who depend heavily on the defense behind them, weakening an entire side of the infield, when the other side isn't exactly strong to begin with, isn't a recipe to help the pitching staff, which, if you read the article, is the number 1 concern this offseason according to Guillien. Put A-Rod in LF.

    QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 09:14 AM) We haven't either. One main reason is because with the first one - that we bought on DVD - we rewinded it so many times to see things we missed and you obviously can't do that in the theater. We'll likely do the same with the second one. What could you miss watching Jackass?
  11. I didn't look through all 46 pages, but I attatched a photo I found of Kenny Rogers pitching against Oakland this season on July 5th. It shows the same brown smudge on his thumb. Combined with what ESPN found in his previous playoff starts, it's pretty damn obvious to me that Rogers was looking for an advantage. And I guess this can somewhat explain why he's had such a good season.
  12. QUOTE(joemg311 @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 04:35 AM) Dont worry about the whole dating move dating nonsense. If you like her, and enjoy her company, seek it out.Invite her out alone again, out with you and your buddys, what ever would be fun and comfortable for you. and let the i like you stuff happen naturally. If shes not into you she will make it as hard as possible for you to seek her out,and or she wont seek you out at all after a few more dates and you should get the hint pretty early and easily in the game. Make sure she knows that you mean romantic business so you dont get caught up in some twisted game of going out as friends. This can be done realativly easily by buying her some flowers. just put urself out there and go for it. I'd say that's a little too fast. Maybe a single rose could be seen as "cute" or a generous effort to put some charm on...but a whole bundle of flowers seems like a bit much to me. Most of the time one on one dates are enough for both people to see that it's a romantic situation. And if there are doubts, pay for her (in a friends situation, I rarely, if ever, pay for the girl) and she should get the message. If she's somewhat insistent on paying her own bill, you may have problems.

  14. QUOTE(shipps @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 12:10 AM) Really this shouldnt be in green.Im not big into hip-hop anymore but he was probably the best ever.He was one of the very few rappers I would consider really talented. Agreed. But the thread title notes "rock star potential". I'm not into rap all that much either, but I did like Biggie.
  15. QUOTE(hi8is @ Oct 22, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) yeah... in the mississippi river when he was in his late 20's the trippy part: he had a dad, named.... jeff buckley..... who.... also died in his late 20's..... cause of death..... drowning in the mississippi river. I assume the second part was a joke...but Jeff's dad was Tim Buckley (who I think was a better musician) and he died from a combination of alcohol and heroin.
  16. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) Get a room. Join us? On second thought...
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 10:22 AM) Yes I do realize that, and I was not ripping on you, I was laughing at your witty remarks. I am in favor of whatever works.

  19. Alright, can anyone give me a rumor, article, maybe something that says Seattle has their ears open for Ichiro? I find it hard to believe the Mariners know anyone is talking about Ichiro. QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 03:58 PM) Well, you're vastly overrating a lead off man if you're willing to give up 2 good pitchers and a solid prospect. It doesn't matter if he leads off, a package like that should net BIG TIME talent. Couldn't we acquire a lead off man with a BETTER OBP for less? It seems sensible. Ichiro is big time talent. But seriously, why don't you look up some trades that have happened around the league within the past few years. You'll be shocked to see what you see. For instance: The Twins traded A.J. Pierzynski to the Giants for Nathan, Lirano and Bonser.
  20. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) hahah hilarious. It could be true, the best way to prove it is to see it. Come on KW!! I'm wondering if you realize that LF is easier to play than RF. I'm thinking you don't.
  21. Just got my hands on Tom Waits album Orphans - Brawlers, Bawlers and Bastards (No. It's not out yet.). It's absolutely amazing. Has to be the album of the year.
  22. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 02:13 AM) Good post. I agree. I think the whole Ichiro discussion should end anyways, there isn't a single chance he'll be traded. He alone brings in millions upon millions of dollars, he's reasonably priced, and the guy is one of the best hitters in the game. Fuhgetaboutit. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  23. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 11:58 PM) If a guy can adjust from a corner outfield position to center, odds are he can adjust back to the opposite corner just as smoothly. Although it really isn't worth debating, because nobody knows for certain. This is true, but there is no debate between Ichiro and Dye. Ichiro is the better fielder. He's faster, he has a better arm, het gets good reads and good jumps. With RF being the more difficult of the corner outfields to play, why would you want to keep Dye there? And why does anyone think Dye would be worse off in LF? There's less pressure there. Runners can't go first to third. The ball is ahead of the runner until 3rd base. And with the arm he has, he'd be a pretty legitimate threat to throw out any runner. I don't know. I just think it'd be pretty stupid to move the best fielding RF to LF just because we've got a guy that's never played LF.
