QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 08:47 AM) The only thing that can be done is to invade and kill millions of people. If you disagree, you are Neville Chamberlain. Hitler. We can not give them back the $150 billion to start with.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 10:36 AM) Maybe with lower hitting, guys are getting hit in the knees more often? Well hitting high runs the risk of helmet to helmet and a big fine, so could be.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) What we have now (Robin Ventura) isn't working. I'd give Chet Coppock a chance. Like I said if it doesn't work, at least it's entertaining. Give the newbies a short at ruining everything. See your logic? Current is bad, so let's go with an unqualified loon. Seems silly to you? That's for a manager, not the President. We already did that in 2008, see what it got us! (You set that up too good)

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 12:43 PM) eh, (1) why does he deserve some feigned level of respect? (2) how is it racist? Let's not stoop to the level of our PC fear-mongers. I didn't say anythign about racism, just the f*** YOU part of it. If you want civility, at some point you have to display it yourself. That headline is uncalled for.

I don't care what your stance is towards Republicans in general or any candidate in specific, this is uncalled for from a supposed mainstream magazine. And it would be equally uncalled for is the name was changed to Hillary or Obama. http://www.gq.com/story/f***-ben-carson

Yet another school shooting and Ben Carson off the rails
EvilMonkey replied to caulfield12's topic in The Filibuster
Always a chance this had zero to do with the school. :"The incident took place in a parking lot adjacent to our Mountain View resident's hall on the northeast side of campus." Looking at a map of the campus, that residence hall is at the very eastern edge of the campus and has no other campus building around it at all. Could be a drug deal gone bad. Could have been something that started elsewhere and ended up there, could have not been students at all. Not much details yet about anything. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) mccarthy in phone intv: asked if house is governable? "I dont know. sometimes you need to hit rock bottom" — Rich Lowry (@RichLowry) October 8, 2015 That reads "Waaaaaahh. They don't like me, they are all mean poopie heads".

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) Boehner has said that his resignation will not become effective until a replacement is in place. Someone in the mainstream of the party needs to grow a spine and tell the 30 thugs that they don't run everything. Or maybe the rest of the party can COMPROMISE with them?

QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 01:30 PM) I thought it was impossible to shoot to wound, that's why police officers always kill people who they are moderately afraid of When you are standing still, pointing your gun at people you lined up against a wall, sure, you can do it. When you are chasing a suspect down a street at full speed and he stops to shoot at you, not a chance. You aim for center mass. Nice try, though.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 11:48 AM) McCarthy withdraws candidacy for speaker Wow. Just Boehner 2.0, so nothing would have changed. Plus he would be terrible on all the Sunday shows. He can't speak, especially without notes.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) What evidence is there that Christians were the only ones shot in the head and all others were just wounded/spared? Because of the woman in the wheelchair? There's far from any consistency to this theory across multiple testimonies. I didn't say there was evidence, Isaid I read a story where that was claimed, and IF that was true, they were singled out. I then laughed at your story trying to claim they weren't which used such wonderful logic as 'he like George Takai, so he can't be Christian'. That link didn't disprove anything.

I run a printshop in the Joliet area and my designer of 5 years is leaving me for greener pastures. This isn't a career position, so I am glad that she moving up. However that means that I will have yet another hat to wear, and despite my confidence, my head isn't THAT big. So I need to hire a designer. As I mentioned, it is entry level, so you are not getting $20 per hour. Not even the $15 that Burger King workers think they are worth. But if you are familiar with the Adobe Suite of products, looking for 30-40 hours a week of never boring work, live in the Joliet area and want to expand your resume for a few years, this could be the place for you. Send me a message if you are interested. If you know someone who might be, i can give you my email for them to forward a resume to. Thanks for looking.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 01:26 PM) Sheriff says they seized 14 guns. Can't get the sound here at work, but I wasn't disputing the amount of guns, nut more the motivation behind buying them. In the other links, nothing says that she bought them because she feared confiscation, except one woman who says she said that, and facebook posts they reference but don't link. I am not saying she didn't feel that way, asking if there was proof other than one person's word. And fyi, just about every gun owner thinks confiscation is out there somewhere, because it is. What do you think 'laws like Australia' is code for?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friendlyathei...to-be-the-case/ Nice try....though. More were interested in science/New Age/mysticism. Only two of the nine could be described as Christian. If he deliberately tried to wound but not kill 78% of the victims, pretty sure we would have heard something by now. Like their methodology. "He liked george Takai, so he wasn't Christian'. Funny.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 08:41 AM) His mother stockpiled guns fearing Obama was going to take them. Appears that all the guns were purchased legally. I clicked every link there, and all you have to back that up is one person saying the mom said this. They mention Facebook posts but no links. Have you seen anything to back this up other than hearsay?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 07:51 AM) The shooter asked everyone their religious beliefs, but apparently it had nothing to do with who he ended up shooting or not shooting in the end. He also deliberately shot someone in a wheelchair, so there's not much of a pattern here to be seen...even the one witness/hostage who was spared has no clue why he chose him to leave a message for the police. This wasn't one of those cases like in Nairobi, Kenya, two years ago where Somali militants were killing all "infidels" who couldn't quote from the Koran/Quran. From what I read if the people responded 'Christian', he shot them in the head, others he shot more to wound. if that is the case, they yeah, he singled out Christians.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 09:41 AM) Just for the record, Umpqua Community College is not a "gun free zone". While true, according to state law the schools can't prevent cc license holders from carrying, they try. And how many people see the notices banning guns and don't realize that the school can't do that? Want to risk getting thrown out? https://web.archive.org/web/20150316175339/...ity-information Most people will read that as not allowed, except for maybe law enforcement.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 01:24 PM) http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/...earing-20151001 4. "Second Amendment, baby." Here's a good time to remind everyone that the Second Amendment was written by slaveholders before we had electricity, much less the kind of weaponry that would-be murderers can buy today. But sure, if you think it's that precious, we can compromise: If you love the Second Amendment that much, feel free to live in a powdered wig and s*** in a chamberpot while trying to survive off what you can kill with an 18th century musket. In exchange, let those of us living in this century pass some laws so we can feel safe going to class, or the movies, or anywhere without worrying that some maladjusted man will try to get his revenge by raining death on random strangers. Hey Amanda, FYI, all of the amendments were written then, including the first which lets you spew your idiotic nonsense all over the new media, that ALSO wasn't even thought of back then. If you love your first amendment so much, feel free to live in a world without television, radio and the internet, and try and get your message across with one of ole Ben Frankiln's printing presses. Just come out and say what you want, you want to ban guns. There are no laws short of that that you can pass that will 'make you feel safe'. Isn't that what the magical 'gun free zone' was supposed to do?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 06:30 PM) Also, not everyone has access to the necessary documentation to even get a driver's license or state id in the first place. Explain to me how these people function in today's society then. They can't work without a ss card and an ID, you need tp provide that with your job application and the I9 form. They can't get government benefits if they don't work since the government has no clue who they are. They can't cash checks without an ID, even at a currency exchange.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 11:11 AM) 1. Hence the whole concept of "Voter Registration". Perhaps you should take a moment to review the concept, as far as I know no one here has objected to that. In fact, I encourage you to test this by attempting to register a large number of non-citizens to vote. Make sure they have your name and know that you're strongly encouraging them to do so. 2. So "voting on a business day" is an impediment to voting, does that also not indicate that having a mobile ID facility in a county only open 1-2 days a month or having to drive several counties over is a similar issue? 1. So what of same-day registrations? And once you register, presumably at an earlier date, if you don't show any ID to prove who you are when you get there, you can say just any name that happens to be on the rolls. 2. Do you have proof that is what they do or are you just guessing? I would venture you are just guessing.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 02:05 AM) Obama gave a good speech today following the shootings. For those who say he's not religious, BTW, catch the final 30 seconds of his speech. It's all about God. Obama makes a great line early in the speech. He says many groups will say this proves we need more guns. He said, "Does anybody really believe that??" Good job telling it like it is. Aren't even responsible gun owners sickened by all this? Like Obama said, other countries have mental illness and they don't have these shooting problems. Our country is a cesspool with Americans getting off on killing Americans with enough ammo to kill hundreds. Sick and sad. Other countries lock up their mentally ill, Greg. And as a responsible gun owner, why should I be embarrassed or ashamed by what some crazy-ass did? He doesn't represent me.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 10:45 PM) http://news.yahoo.com/lightbox/douglas-cou...3747412056.html 2013 letter (written after a previous mass shooting) from local Oregon sheriff stating he won't follow any Federal laws regarding gun control that he believes to be unconstitutional... I believe that was for background checks on private sales. The forms errors are felonies, state DAs can take care of those. Should be slam dunks to help their conviction rates. But they don't take them.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 07:06 PM) I've been saying this since he got away with murder. Dude is just a piece of s*** troublemaker and eventually it'll catch up yo him. Hopefully he doesn't kill anymore people before his time is up. And yet before the incident he was a model citizen, and hispanic.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 06:44 PM) Wish I had the ability to live life with blinders on. Don't do anything cuz it won't work anyway! Some folks probably don't even care about a problem until it effects them. That seems to be the attitude every time someone mentions cutting government spending. 'Oh, it's only 50 million, it won't even make a dent in the deficit'.
