  1. Hardcore environmentalism is a religion unto itself.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 07:49 AM) As I said, right now, Islam has far and away the biggest problem with extremism (among major religions). No one has said otherwise. The problem is the bolded word. It is more accurate to say "some people" within Islam, as clearly it isn't across the religion. It is splinter groups, which are certainly gaining strength, that are doing it. I think it's important too to read more deeply about groups like ISIL - and see that they are led by people that were criminals and thugs to begin with, now using Islam as a "cause" to promote what is essentially organized crime. They're a gang. OK, what percentage of 'some' people is needed before it becomes a problem? With a religion of this size, 'some' can be in the millions.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 23, 2014 -> 10:34 AM) Islam and Christianity's holy books (which contain some overlap for those unaware) both contain text making it very clear that non-believers in their religion are, by some description (infidel, unclean, whatever), lesser people. But it's what they tell their people to DO to those non-believers that makes them different.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 23, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) Actually a much more recent example for Christianity, if you want to go there, is what the mostly-Spanish missionaries did in the New World in the 1500-1800AD period. So for a 'recent' example you have to go back to the 1500's? Ok.
  5. She then tried saying her opponent would sign legislation to ban interracial marriages. This despite the fact that her opponent is married to a Hispanic woman. Wonder if she will come out and start dating a black guy or a Hispanic guy next and say 'see? I am all for interracial relationships!' She was a one-hit wonder in pink shoes, hence her nickname.
  6. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Oct 23, 2014 -> 12:10 PM) Hey, some of my best friends are [insert race, sex, color, creed, sexual preference here]! Kinda like Abortion Barbie surrounding herself with people in wheelchairs after trying to make her opponent's wheelchair an issue, which backfired on her.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 07:33 PM) And none of those issues would have been solved or impacted by an ID check. This one would have. http://www.arizonadailyindependent.com/201...caught-on-tape/
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 11:35 PM) Balta's last line was funny at least. Except I said that in post #972.
  9. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) Blame the media? Personally, if Rauner just brings the state from laughing stock to respectable, that's all any voter could ask for. I have zero faith in Quinn. He was the Lt. Gov for a criminal although you could say that about a lot of Lt. Govs of Illinois past. I'm not sure how much money the income tax hike reversal would save the average Illinois citizen but I can't imagine it being "WOW" worthy. I'm still not understanding Rauner's plan to fix Illinois sans shock and awe tactics. I think him being a business guy should be interesting but you can't run a state goverment like you run a business. There are many areas that absolutely can be ran like a business. Like budgeting. There isn't a department in this state that couldn't actually CUT 5%. And I mean use less money, not only increase by 5% instead of 10%. The problem is when the politicized managers of the various departments are told to do this, they try to make the cuts as painful as possible, so that people will whine about it, instead of eliminating the second cousin that sits in the corner office playing Candy Crush all day, or maybe having a few contract go to the lowest bidder instead of the most connected one. Personally, I don't care if they LOWER my taxes, just stop raising them. I pay enough.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 05:32 PM) I can fathom no potential problem of protestors being tear gassed or having flash-grenades used while armed with semi-automatic assault rifles. Cause you know, we can tell that these guys aren't possessing guns legally. They don't look like legal gun owners somehow. We all know guns make you wet your pants. You never know when one might jump out at you and go 'bang'. How an assault rifle slu g over a shoulder is going to suddenly go off when someone throws tear gas is beyond me. But you are off on a tangent again.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 01:55 PM) Since when do you have a problem with more guns? Even at protests? More guns = everything's always better. The tea party definitely taught me that one, guns are absolutely necessary at protests. You left out the word LEGAL. And not NECESSARY, but ACCEPTABLE.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 08:57 AM) I think that the thing which cheapens both of them is what just happened here, a person who has absolutely no understanding of the history of his own country and the history of the very acts he is complaining about. Go read the words. If these people are shutting down the businesses of unrelated people just because they put up with the system in place they're going to have bad things happen to them, they're going to be beaten. You may not agree with these protestors that this is a civil rights issue. You told us why you don't. That's a heck of a step up from having no idea of the history of sit ins and why the people don't care if the police rough them up in this case. One difference may be between the passive resistance offered then vs the armed-to-the-teeth (and probably not legally) looking for trouble aspect of the protesting now.

  14. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) The theory is the greater the pain the tighter the bound. I am 99% certain that the coaches didn't suggest this happen. I'm certain the hazing simply went a little further each year. Mob mentality and peer pressure is a powerful thing. Only bond that pain/experience would produce would be my fist bonding upside their jaws when I was released, or the bond they would need to get out of jail afterwards.
  15. How many times did Pat Quinn call himself the 'jobs governor'?
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 09:27 PM) You know what? I could make a sarcastic remark but I don't have to. Don't piss off 7 of 9. Except it wasn't 7 of 9 that got the previously sealed records released to the public.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 11:42 AM) wtf Germany? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/...ittee-says.html So they are for that, but didn't they just crack down on homeschoolers not too long ago? Hmm.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 10:32 AM) Ncorgbl. Pretty sure he was the one that was exposed by JimH and Quickman, and then he disappeared. I remember that blowhard. Juddling and I used to have a list of 'Ncorgiblisms' for all the crap he used to say, like 'there's your opinion, then there's my fact'. He had about 10 of them he used over and over to try and shut down arguments.
  19. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 12:19 PM) Right handers are the ones that typically kill lefties. I think you may mean a right hander that kills righties. Yup, good catch.
  20. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 11:11 AM) Reading that reminded me of how great the Sale and Quintana contracts are. I think one of the most important (if not THE most important) thing to address is a LH power bat. Beyond that, the bullpen needs a lot of help. Should be an interesting offseason. How about a right hander that kills lefties? If the splits are 10 points or less regardless of the pitcher they face, bring 'em on!
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) Just being sick and having returned from Liberia isn't enough to warrant testing, according to the CDC. What? There can't be that many people coming here from Liberia of all places, who are sick. YES you test them or something. WTF is up with the CDC?
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 08:10 AM) I read that he was not symptomatic during his flight. The dude rode in a cab with a friend who had it to the hospital, carried her to the hospital from the cab and then sat with her outside because the hospital was full until she died. He had to at least have had an idea that he had it. And when he first showed up at the hospital, you would think that that word might have come out of his mouth at some time.
  23. I am more pissed that this idiot knew he had it, or should have known he had it, when he got on the damn plane to come here. He put everyone he came in contact with at risk. And while the hospital misdiagnosed and let him go, you would think maybe he would have spoke up and said 'no, I just might have ebola, I just came from Liberia where I was holding an ebola patient in my arms.please look again'.
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 03:49 PM) My dog pounces on me as soon as I walk in the door. Hears garage door open. So he's better than your dogs, obviously. Mine is a little old, and fat, to pounce.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 03:15 AM) Do all beagles bark and howl a lot? I have had pure bred Beagles and Beagle mutts. They all seem to howl to some degree, just depends on the dog. The pure ones were hunting dogs, so you WANTED them to howl. The mutts we have had have been mostly calm. The one I have now only howls when the rabbits in the yard tease her and start running across the lawn, then her instincts kick in and she chases them howling like mad.
