QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 04:16 PM) Back to Boston, do you think the British saw it that way? These were their citizens destroying valuable stuff and openly defying the government over money. Ferguson people are defying over someone getting killed and not even being brought to court to answer the charges. But the Ferguson people weren't destroying the property of people they were mad at, they just destroyed for the sake of destroying. And looting.

For f*cks sake, doing this again?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 09:24 AM) I don't know how that makes any sense. Either he was on bath salts or Wilson is straight up lying. That's not normal human behavior in any way. It says ' shooting AT him', not hitting him. I am sure there were many shots that missed, as adrenalin can severely hamper aim.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 08:34 AM) People on here like to call black people "animals". Little bit disturbing. I would call rioters animals, regardless of color. For you to assume color would fall upon you. Assholes are assholes, regardless of race or religion.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 12:33 PM) If you are a hiring manager, how do you notify interviewees that they didn't get the job: A. Call from yourself to inform them B. Email from yourself to inform them C. Call/email from HR person to inform them D. No contact at all Now, I'm not talking about the larger pool of people who applied, just the smaller pool of people who actually made it to an interview with the hiring manager. As a hiring manager, I always do (A), but as an interviewee, I can't remember the last time I received anything other than © or (D), with (D) being far more frequent. I have always done A. I have hired often enough over the last 20 years, bit not so often that it can't be done. it sucks, but I figure I wanted to know if the answer was no, so I made sure I let everyone know. I am with you, during the year I was unemployed, I think I heard back in person from MAYBE 3 or 4 of the 100 that I had interviewed with. You can probably add another 20 or so that i got an email, the rest was nothing, unless I chased them down for an answer.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 09:45 AM) So many smart people here. I need to be smart. I won't tell you which choice I would make, but certain non-monetary things can make big impacts. I currently make at least 30% less than I was 5 years ago. However, I also now have a 6 minute commute (on a BAD day) vs the previous 75+ minutes, I have a company car and I have the flexibility to take off if I need to for things, like picking my kid up from school or something. I would say that I am very happy compared to the previous position, despite the lower pay. Like someone mentioned earlier, a marginal increase in pay may not be worth the extra aggravation. Good luck with your choice.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 09:58 AM) you can go back to about page 5 or so of this thread to find plenty of examples of serious police overreaction and escalation. so how do you want them to respond? What would YOU have them do?
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 09:45 AM) I'm not sure why threats of more state violence would be the right answer to a situation that was continually made worse by state violence. You want them to respond to riots by laying down their arms and singing songs? The only response is to stop them.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 01:47 AM) Our insurance at work went up another 20 percent today for next year. And we have a s***ty company, United. Our country is f***ed, folks. Healthcare is a big time joke. And yet nobody complains about the costs of the CARE, just the costs of the insurance. Oh, my insurance is too high! Well how about that $120 for a 5 minute office visit? Or the $32 for a plastic disposable razor if you have a hospital stay? $40 Tylenol? $12,500 for an anesthesiologist to work 45 minutes during your knee operation?

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 02:08 PM) Man the video game industry has gotten really disgusting with the launches of completely broken like Assassin's Creed, Drive Club, and Halo in the past month. Two of those are even first party games. Nintendo should bring back their seal of quality. I don't think you'd ever find anything close to those examples on their consoles I haven't experienced any issues with CoD: Advanced Warfare. Yet.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 09:47 PM) Right, I'm not saying he should have said anything. Just that, whether he would have voted the same was in Hillary in her position or not, the fact that he didn't have to make the vote was an advantage. yeah, he would have just voted 'present' anyway. That seemed to have been his favorite.

It's a reference to a movie, keep it within the context in which it was clearly meant. The point is/was, you don't go full retard, and Ted Cruz just did. This politically correct s*** is absurd at this point in which you can't even reference a f***ing mainstream Hollywood movie anymore. Can't say 'crazy' either, that is an ableist slur.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 12:36 PM) This is flat out incorrect. There are plenty of safeguards to prevent people from voting illegally already. There's not even an "enforce the laws we have" joke to be made here, they already are enforced and they work fine - about the only thing that genuinely makes voter fraud possible is the presence of absentee ballots and to get your hands on those you have to jump through several hoops. Otherwise you've got several steps before a single person can vote. Voter impersonation is nearly impossible (you need to know 100% that no one you're impersonating will come to the polls on their own otherwise they'll ask how their name got checked off as having already voted!), illegal immigrants have both difficulties with registering to vote and not having their names on the rolls when they show up, and law enforcement does a fine job of enforcing these laws in the cases of small time voter fraud. yeah, same day registration takes care of those. And if you vote first, before the real person shows up, what are they going to do, go fishing in the ballot box for the one illegally cast? Once cast, it is a done deal.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Nov 6, 2014 -> 08:12 AM) Daniel Biss is the man. I expect him to take the leap to Congress soon. Though living in Schakowsky's district makes that difficult. And SS, why the Cuomo hate? Serious question. Haven't really heard much about him but I thought he was a generally well-liked guy. Multiple ethics compaints against Cuomo as well, especially regarding his Moreland Commission, which was 'supposed' to root out corruption, but at first only concerned itself with Republicans in the state. but when they ran out of Republicans and started to target Democrats, he quickly disbanded it before any of his buddies could be targeted. Tons of complaints against him, and not just things related to his father.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 12:23 PM) The Washington Post and CNN are predicting, with greater than 90% probability, that the voters are sick of the Dems and want Repub's back in power. Can we start making posts about how the American public has spoken, it's time for a change, liberals need to lay down and acquiesce, etc. etc.? Never happen. Could win by 15% and it wouldn't be a mandate, it would just be 'voters throwing a tantrum'.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 04:32 PM) Wait, it gets better! It should be wrong regardless of who does it. There is no way to know who filled out the ballot.

I read somewhere over the weekend that WKRP in Cinncinati has finally cleared all the licensing hurdles and coming out on DVD. Johnny Fever and Venus Flytrap are back!

Funny how most of the people saying 'Ebola? Eh, no big deal', were having near panic attacks about bird flu or whatever that was during the Bush admin. The optimist would like to think they learned a lesson about panic. The more likely reality is something political...

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 03:44 PM) Another shooting at a school today, a high school in Washington. Some dead. Get mad. Get a gun. Go kill as many people as you can before you get killed or shoot yourself. Happening way too often, folks. In Israel they use cars (when bombs and guns aren't handy) to achieve multiple injuries and/or kills. BAN CARS!!!! http://news.yahoo.com/nine-hurt-car-rams-p...-162937758.html

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 11:10 AM) Here's what I don't get with this argument...WHAT PAYCHECKS? It's clear that these politicians are the ones getting campaign donations from the oil industry. That's part of the irony here. But seriously, what paychecks? I can't really think of too many industries that would benefit from stricter environmental regulations. Semantics. Should have said 'government grants'.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 10:10 AM) How do you define hardcore? And does this mean it will be perpetually in conflict with recognized religions? Greenpeace, enviro-terrorists, people like that. They worship the earth, brook no dissent, will change facts to fit their beliefs and are so vested in their outcomes that an attack on the belief is an attack on them personally. If you disagree , you are a heretic, outsider, an 'other' to be scorned, mocked, ignored and not trusted.
