QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 4, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) Ugh, Bleacher Report. I really wish people wouldn't take that site as seriously as they do. Seriously it is not a reliable source whatsover. It is interesting to think about though. As a writer from the Milwaukee Journal elaborates on the current state of the team and speculates about a possible fit.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 07:04 PM) R. Boucher just said that everyone expects James to stay in Cleveland now. How about Rick Boucher and all the other ESPN 'experts' just stop talking until someone signs an agreement. This is getting ridiculous. Would I be suprised if LBJ stays in Cleveland? No but they are constantly changing their minds. They are turning speculation into sources and sources into rumors and rumors into B.S. Rick Boucher was the guy who said Kobe to Chicago is all but a done deal. Stephen A. Smith said LBJ to NY was a done deal. Now he saying LBJ, Wade and Bosh to Miami is a done deal. How can we trust a guy who changes his mind like that? Whatever. . Go Sox!

QUOTE (since56 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) We got rid of Thome ( a left handed home run hitter ) so Ozzie could get away from an everyday dh. Now we are going after Dunn ( a left handed home run hitter ) to make him our everyday dh? I don't get it. If we are committed to a new style of play then lets commit, and get past the slow strikeout guys in the middle of our lineup. Dunn is much more effective than Thome is at this stage of his career. As far as changing styles go, I think they have already addressed that by getting Rios, Pierre, Ramirez and Beckham. This team will still have pleanty of speed.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 03:17 PM) So is there any hope of a Fielder deal getting done? There's no way Milwaukee can afford to re-sign him. The Dunn talks could just be a smoke screen, while KW goes into stealth mode and aqcuires Prince. You never know? I've been suprised before. Milwaukee is going to want a HUGE return package though. We are talking one of Danks or Floyd and Hudson plus more!. .

QUOTE (goblue5699 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) That guy can't even spell, how am I supposed to take him seriously? he is one of the national beat writers who apparently needs to use spell check!

QUOTE (Real @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 01:52 PM) IsDunn servicable at 1B? Just scares me a bit with Alexeis low throws From what I hear he is not the best. Konerko is by far the better defender of the 2. Dunn is a DH playing 1B. I don't think he'll be disgruntled at all. If so, it will only be at first. He can do whatever he pleases in the offseason being a free agent and all. For 3 months he will be a DH and will help this team win a lot of games! I garuntee you he will not complain like Dye did when they brought the DH role up to him. This guy is one of the better people baseball and a great clubhouse guy.

This is pretty funny. . .

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) Why would Dunn want to play in the NL? Does he not know he can't field? post of the day.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) he got 2/20 last time, I don't think the market has shifted so drastically back to the players side that he should expect that big of a contract (meaning the 3 year deal listed above, I imagine the 2/20 is realistic), although I am saying this without looking at who else is a FA, last time there was at least Abreu, Ibanez, Bradley and Dunn on the market at the same time. good call. the market hasn't changed much at all. So a 3 year extension at 10 mil per is very reasonable. As far as 1B goes, I can see Konerko signing a 3 year extension for about 21 mil to stay. Lets face it, Viciedo is more of a 3B than a 1B. I think Flowers will replace AJ next year now doubt. You figure you lose about 28 million in contracts next year. If you add Dunn @ 10 mil, Konerko @ 7 and raises to the other guys while re-signing Putz- your pretty much at even.

QUOTE (Real @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 02:23 PM) not happy, unless hudson isnt part of the deal OR we extend Dunn for at least 3 years Thats a possibility. . KW will have to be creative in the offseason. . but that can happen. They will have to decide on the futures of AJ, Konerko and Jenks before anything.
-
Woohooo. I think I was one of the first to call this one. . Go get em KennY!
-
Most managers are going to say "i like what we have here". Its the right thing to say, esspecially when the team just won 11 games in a row. However, if KW wants to make a serious run at more than just a division title, he WILL get that hitter. KW will make a trade, I can promise you that.

I'm going to wait until July 1st before I get excited. . but Bosh and Lebron!? That would be amazing and it would rock the foundation of the NBA and Chicago! And baseketball will once again take over the whole city!

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 11:44 AM) Dunn isnt going to be traded, its been said by him and the Nats. I did see that. . things can change near the deadline though. We've seen it before.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 11:34 AM) Adam Dunn does not make the most sense for this team. They'd only have him for this season, they'll have to pay out the ass to get him (because he'll almost certainly be a Type A free agent), and they won't be able to resign him. I think I'm going to trust the guy who has proven to be accurate before over pure conjecture and assume that the Sox are atleast talking internally about acquiring Prince Fielder. Don't get me wrong, I love Prince Fielder. But if we aqcuire him, it would likely be for a package of Hudson, Flowers and Viciedo not to mention his large contract for 2011. If we are paying Prince Fielder 11 million next year, that pretty much all but ends the possibility of bringing back Konerko and AJ. Who will replace AJ at catcher next year if we deal Flowers for Fielder? I wonder if KW can be swift and have Milwaukee pay about 6 million of his remaining salary? If he does that- we can likely re-sign AJ. . . As far as Adam Dunn goes. Although he is a Type free agent, he would likely cost less than Fielder in regards to prospects. And Im sure Washington would rather have guys they can immediately insert into their lineup for next year rather than wait for the draft. .
-
I just dont see KW trading 2 long term position players and a potential 2-3 type starting pitcher for 1.5 years of Fielder, especially with Boras as his agent. Be prepared for the Adam Dunn rumors to continue to heat up because it makes the most sense for the current state of the team.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 12:12 AM) In a perfect world: LF Pierre 2B Beckham CF Rios DH Dunn 1B Konerko RF Quentin C Pierzynski SS Ramirez 3B Vizquel/Viciedo Switch Beckham with Ramirez and you have yourself a hell of a lineup. Seriously, if we get Dunn we go from Division contender to W.S. contender! He's the perfect fit!!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 01:15 PM) What you have to remember with Dunn though is that the Nats shouldn't hesitate to offer him arbitration, and he's going to be a type A free agent almost certainly. So, the Nats can probably expect to get a late first round pick and a sandwich pick for him this offseason. Therefore...you need to offer something more valuable than those picks. I don't think Hudson for Dunn alone is enough when you count the draft picks. Do you actually think it would take both Hudson and Flowers for 1/3 season of Dunn?

Some interesting numbers with their pro-rated remaining 2010 salary as of July 31st: Adam Dunn (4.08 mil)- .283 Avg, .376 OBP, 16 HR, 39 RBI. Prince Fielder (3.57 mil, 11 mil next year)- .260 Avg, .397 OBP, 13 HR, 26 RBI. Adam LaRoche (2.38 mil)- .260 Avg, .348 OBP, 9 HR, 42 RBI.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) Lance Berkman wouldn't help that much either, and even if he did get hot and find his old self, he'd still be a 1/2 stop gap. We need someone who is young and an impact bat. Whatever it would take to get and pay Fielder, we should do it. Fielder would be just what the doctor ordered. But since Boras is his agent he would most likely be a 1.5 rent-a-player. He would most likely cost the most prospects as well. Adam Dunn wouldn't cost as many prospects since this is the final year of his contract. I do agree with your assesment of Berkman. His low average worries me. LaRoche is a very interesting name. . but Im thinking KW wants a guy with a little more power.

JR hinted that the team has the resources to add to it. KW mentioned in spring training that there is something here that we don't see right now. The Sox are currently 5.5 games back and seem to be turning things around defensively and with our starting pitching. With that being said, if this team wants to make a serious run at the division, KW needs to add a bat. Teams out there who are clearly 'out of it' include the: Brewers, Astros, Pirates, Diamondbacks, Nationals, Mariners, Orioles, Cleveland and KC. I have mentioned Prince Fielder before but since his agent is Boras its highly unlikely he comes here. Adam Dunn and Lance Berkman who are both on the final years of their contracts. Who do you like who is out there?
