  1. Im guessing he will sign with Detroit for 2 years at $14 million.
  2. http://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/8980407917 looks like he'll end up a Tiger after all.
  3. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 04:13 PM) Who cares, its the offseason and he's enjoying it. He did a good job last season and he's not a major star where this would be a PR problem. This guy was a fan favorite at Soxfest, hung out to talk with most fans, took the time to sign autographs outside the 'scheduled time'. I have no problem with him hanging out with Sox fans and being a little sauced up- it is the OFFseason. The dude is in great shape and appears ready to go.
  4. QUOTE (3E8 @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 01:38 PM) We've done a lot for the Danks family and John's development especially. If he didn't work with our staff he might not have developed the cutter which has enabled him a lot of success and future value in the MLB. The type of value and earning potential a cutthroat agent cannot add. Jordan was given a very generous signing bonus as well. I wouldn't let these kind of emotions get in the way of an Adrian Gonzalez deal well said. however, i highly doubt- jordan danks would be the center piece to an A-Gon deal anyway. Mitchell has a much higher ceiling than D2 and you would have to assume- he would have to be included in a mega package headed to San Diego.
  5. QUOTE (Ranger @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 12:31 PM) Do you mean both Danks, or just John? Im assuming he meant just John.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) Mark Gonzales? yes. my bad. .
  7. Today on White Sox weekly, Mike Gonzalez mentioned that A-Gon will likely be dealt, its only a matter of time. The team with the best chance to get him are the Red Sox. Jed Hoyer was the former Assistant GM for the Red Sox and has a great relationship w/ Epstien. With the Red Sox deep farm- and Hoyer's knowledge of all of those prospects, it would be really hard to match up with them.
  8. Adrian Gonzalez is only 27 years old! He plays a position that wont wear him down anytime soon and he is in the prime of his career! I would offer whatever it would take (from our minors) to land this guy. I would HATE to deal away Flowers, Hudson or Mitchell, but lets face it, we have a 2 year window at winning another title. Buerhle's contract expires after 2011, who knows whats going to happen with AJ and Konerko next year? Who will replace Pierre once his contract expires? This maybe the only opportunity to land a guy of this caliber- and he may indeed help put us over the top- TWICE!
  9. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 12:50 AM) At this point, if all it would take is Hudson, Flowers, and Danks we might as well do it. We need the shot in the arm, and as much as i dig the idea of both Danks brothers starting for the team at the same time, i'm far more sentimental about a guy who could pop 50 from the left-side. Not to mention he can be the last piece to a championship contending team. .
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) Who in the heck buys tickets to see Johnny Damon??? I would buy tickets for a team that is very good! I think Johnny Damon would just be another solid piece to the 2010 puzzle- and so far i like it!!
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 30, 2010 -> 10:16 AM) Damon would sell some tickets. If KW was saying with a straight face when he offered Torii Hunter all that cheddar that they were stretching the budget but Hunter t-shirt and jersey sales along with the expected increase in ticket sales would cover the deficit, then Damon is in the same boat although he wouldn't have to sell as many. Its not a long term committment. Its nothing that would be a burden for seasons to come. Maybe they are secretly negotiating with him. Maybe Boras is throwing out all these other teams in order to create a fake market. It just seems right now no team is going to offer Damon a big contract. I have wanted Damon from day 1 and in the back of my mind, I always thought the Yankees would be the biggest threat to screw it up if the White Sox did go after him. They have to be out now. I really doubt Damon wants to go to Oakland. He had a bad year in that park when he was in his prime. If it happened again, he probably would be done. He might take less to play near home in Tampa, but how much are they going to really offer him? Detroit? I think you give him a contract he can save some face on and Boras could spin into a good situation, he can be had. At this stage of his career, you would have to think he wants to go to a contender- with the Yankees out of the picture, I could see the Rays and White Sox as his top two choices.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 30, 2010 -> 09:09 AM) Well that is an interesting angle. I was not aware of that. My guess is Kenny may use AJ as a go-between to Johnny to try and mitigate Boras's influence. thats what im hoping for too
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 30, 2010 -> 08:49 AM) He is? yeah. they went to high school together and currently are nieghbors in florida. I'm pretty sure they wrestled together in TNA also. . good times!
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 30, 2010 -> 08:23 AM) According to Joel Sherman, Damon would be willing to play for $7 million with part of that being deferred, so I would imagine since he hasn't signed, the $7 million he turned down, if he did get an offer, is not available anymore. Supposedly the Yankees were willing to give him 2 years $14 million if they didn't sign Nick Johnson, but they did. Then supposedly before they signed Winn, the offered him one year $6 million with half of it being deferred, he said no. The A's were interested, but they just spent $10 million on Sheets. I doubt they would go $7 million for Damon. I think $4-5 million with another $1-2 million in incentives could get it done right now, maybe even cheaper if you wait a while but run the risk of losing him. Johnny Damon is this year's Bobby Abreu, and the Sox do have a spot for him. Nice post. . Damon fits in perfect for the type of team KW and Ozzie want. Damon is in the stage of his career where an extra 2 million isn't going to make or break him and he is best friends with AJ. He isn't the prototypical DH- but either is the Kotsay/Jones/Vizquel platoon they have planned. A Pierre-Damon 1-2 punch would be very nice at the top! Get it done KW!
  15. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 08:54 PM) I thought he managed "from the gut" How about Crede at DH? He did mention that as well
  16. I was at Soxfest today and Ozzie mentioned the whole- "As a manager sometimes you have to think with your mind and not your heart in order to lead a team". From what it sounds like and with the make of the team- Thome will not be back. If anything Damon would be a MUCH better fit than Thome and his value has dropped significantly the past few weeks. Apparantely the Yankees will only bring back Damon for a 1 year 2 million deal.. . Something we all need to keep in mind. .
  17. Im going to Soxfest this year (sunday). It will be the first time i have gone since 2005... 2004- I met Rowand and Olivo. Rowand was probably the coolest player to talk to. 2005- I met Garland and Willie, this was before they signed Iguchi, so he was in line as our starting 2b, i told Willie if he would steal 40, he told me he would steal 70 lol. My friend asked Garland if he would win 20 games, he said he hopes so. Little did we know he would have a career year and Willie would be our backup infielder! 2010- Im hoping to meet Beckham, but i wouldnt be upset with Freddy or Danksy. . I really enjoy Soxfest. If your a diehard Sox fan you need to try it once. The Q & A session with Ozzie and KW is a fan favorite!! See you guys there!
  18. Reiny had mentioned that if he feels a player is available to help put us over the top, he will spend the extra cash. He also said if we get off to a great start, attendance will be high, meaning he will have even more means come the trade deadline! I'm guessing the team is the way it is right now with a great possibility of aqcuiring a HUGE bat at the deadline. A lot will depend on how Andruw Jones performs during the first half of the year. If he turns out to be the steal of the year, we keep our money and our farm! I would have to say the Sox are in pretty damn good shape right now! Good work Kalapse!!
  19. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 11:09 AM) http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb I'd be fine with this, since we might not have Viciedo ready by then, and if we somehow acquire a lefty power hitting 1B, I could see Konerko being a good DH. Of course, he'd have to take a pay cut. I would like for them to do the same thing they did with Thomas when they put him at DH in 1999 after 10 seasons at 1B. This would be ideal especially with Adrian Gonzalez likely being available at the trade deadline
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 13, 2010 -> 01:01 AM) What do you guys think of Castro? This thread doesn't comment on him much even tho it's about him. I can't even remember him. Is he another backup catcher that was an automatic out? pretty much an automatic out- calls a good game and has a nice arm. For the most part he's the typical backup catcher. He also caught Buerhle's perfect game if you cant recall. I think this is a good move- it gives Flowers another year to work on his game calling and defense down in triple-a.
  21. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) Johnny Damon is a hell of a lot better than what we have penciled into the DH slot, so if there's any way to bring him on I'd be favor of that. he's probably going to cost 7-8 million per season. he would be the perfect DH for this team though. .
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 08:58 PM) With Ozzie wanting his slappy leadoff hitter and rotating DH, if this offense fails, he better be held responsible. The only way I promote the whole rotating DH thing is if its rotating Konerko and Gonzalez between DH and 1B.
  23. I like this move. Having Flowers start down in triple-a is a great idea, we know he can hit but its really important for him to work on calling games and throwing baserunners out. With that DH slot still open, a trade still is a possibility, but i wouldn't count on it. . .
  24. I would have more respect for the guy if he came out like 3-5 years ago. It figures he would admit this now. Whatever, at least he FINALLY came clean and now he can focus on coaching hitters without dealing with the constant steriod questions. I wonder when Barry Bonds is going to come clean? Haha probably never.
  25. QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 06:27 PM) If we are trading Gavin Floyd, we better be getting back Adrian Gonzalez or Prince Fielder. I would NEVER trade Floyd for Dunn. And either would KW so its okay KW will sign a DH to a 3 million deal to round out this ballclub. BTW im loving what we have right now! Bring in Vladdy and were in a great shape!
