  1. I'm pretty happy with what I got considering that I had the last pick.
  2. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Mar 2, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) full story http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,18311205-29277,00.html This does not surprise me at all. When I went to study overseas, everyone seemed shocked that I, an American, did not have several guns at my home (I do not even have 1). They all seem to think that we just all walk around with guns in our belts looking for someone to shoot at. Seemed kind of weird, but I think that they see Americans using guns so often in TV and movies that they expect it of us.
  3. It always helps to have the season lengthened with some playoff games. Then to have that followed up with a parade, a trophy tour, and a white house visit!!
  4. Got this at work. I do not know if any of it is true or not, but it is kind of funny if it is. Below is the text that came with it. Of course, who knows if any of it is true? The picture shows that this soldier has been thru Survival School and learned his lessons well. He's giving the sign of "coercion" with his left hand. These hand signs are taught in survival school to be used by POW's as a method of posing messages back to our intelligence services who may view the photo or video. This guy was obviously being coerced into shaking hands with Hillary Clinton. It's ironic how little she knew that he would so inform us about the photo---perhaps because she's never understood our military to begin with. If you consider that there have been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theater of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000. The rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000. That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in our Nation's Capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq. Conclusion: We should immediately pull out of Washington!
  5. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 11:28 PM) I'm really mad about the whole liscensing thing that prevents EA Sports from making MVP 2006. I pulled out MVP 2005, and it's a really good game that I am still having a lot of fun with. I'm trying to tinker with the rosters a bit, but that's obviously a tedious process. If you get a memory card and a cable to connect your computer to the memory card, I think that you can just download updated rosters to your memory card instead of doing all of the tinkering. I think I'm going with that rather than buying a new game.
  6. I think that this has been mentioned elsewhere, but if you want to stick with MVP Baseball 05 for the game play, you can download the rosters. http://mvpmods.com/index.php?name=Downloads&c=6
  7. I just gotta say Konerko's. When he hit that with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, it was a "Heck YEAH!" reaction. When Pods hit his, I was more in a kind of fall back in utter disbelief reaction. It took a little bit longer for that one to sink in than Konerko's.
  8. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) Hey! Same to you! (we need some sort of high five emotion on here for moments like this). I think the more appropriate one would be the nerd high five where you both go for it and end up hitting wrists, look at each other awkwardly, try again (with a little less exuberance) and nail it!
  9. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 08:10 AM) I have to ask those of you who are in favor of banning abortion (or pro-life or whatever we are calling it today) a question. If your stance is that the fertilized egg is life immediately, then why the rape exception? That makes no sense to me. If I believed that life started at conception (which I am still open to, I am not dead-set on this topic yet), then to me, the ONLY logical exception that would be acceptable is when the mother's life is on the line. If conception occurs via rape, that life (if it is one at that point) is still a life, regardless of what action created it. The crime itself is horrific, but if life is to be protected no matter what, than rape cannot be an exception in my view. So can you explain that, please? The rape exception just doesn't sit well with me. I can see what you are saying. A life is a life like you said. However, the rape victim needs to be protected too. What are the impacts of such a tragedy to that person? Would such a thing effectively destroy the life of the rape victim? In which case, you would be choosing between destroying the life of the baby vs destroying the life of the mother. Rape is a case were the mother did not choose for this to happen. Whereas, in other cases, a choice was made by the mother. It is tragic. This is all JMO of course.
  10. QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) Ah fair fair trade I believe. So your getting teix and reyes? Who's your first basemen now? A rod is a bit better then teix and bonds / reyes is a good watch during the season. Its a fair trade, depends if you need teix. I personally dont have bonds on much of my teams due to risk, so i like the idea of trading him off. But do you think you could mayb get one small minor thing to add along with the trade possible? Still a fair trade. Utley is currently my first baseman. So, I thought that I could move Teix in at 1st, Utley goes to 2nd, figgins moves to 3rd, and reyes goes in as my SS. Felt like it would strengthen my infield, and remove an injury risk from the team. I already have plenty of OF. Now for that pitching thing.....
  11. What do you think of this trade? Arod and Bonds for Teixeira and Reyes I have Figgins who can play 3b, and I have Utley moving to 2B My SS is currently Uribe. So, I needed help there. I have the following OF Sizemore, Bonds, Holliday, Giles, Francoeur, Hermida, and Wilkerson. I am worried about Bonds lasting very long.
  12. QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) Also in league 3 C-Michael Barrett 1B-Albert Pujols 2B-Rickie Weeks 3B-Hank Blalock SS-Bobby Crosby OF-Carlos Lee OF-Vernon Wells OF-Randy Winn Util-Milton Bradley BN-Garrett Atkins 3B BN-Raul Ibanez OF BN-Mark Loretta 2B BN-Carlos Guillen SS BN-Chris Shelton 1B SP-Roy Halladay SP-Rich Harden RP-Eric Gagne RP-Bobby Jenks P-Barry Zito P-Zach Duke P-Scott Kazmir Well what do you think? I love the pitching on your team. I like the offense too. Seems like you have a good mix, and a pretty strong team.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 11:08 AM) Wow, all this over little-ol me. Ok, on the "On a respirator" issue. I'll agree that the person cannot survive on his or her own in that case. So, what does happen in that case? Well, hopefully, the person has at some point indicated his or her wishes. That is something which obviously cannot happen with an embryo. But, I think an even more interesting line of thought is this one...in the event that a person has not indicated their wishes...if a person cannot survive without life support, to whom does the decision fall as to whether or not life support should be continued? The closest family. So, in some cases, we do make legal exceptions which would allow for the termination of life without the consent of the actual person, when the actual person cannot give his or her consent. Unless of course Bill Frist passes a law giving the woman's uterus the right to challenge its case in federal court. Excellent point on the respirator. Going along with your thoughts on this, I think that brings up the point of how good a chance the person has of survival and a functional life. In the case of an embryo, there is usually an excellent chance of survival and a functional life. So, IMO, it would be like pulling the plug on someone who has a good chance at a life still worth living. The difference being that the embryo hasn't even been given a chance to live.
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 10:44 AM) Nice cover. Thanks, I sent you a PM, we can talk about it there if you wish rather than start a big ole messy thread argument (I hate those).
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) Why is that anyone's business but his own? Way to completely change the topic. I know that you will probably go off on me, but a lot of personal opinions are given, especially in this forum. I was trying to make a counterpoint to his argument about them not being able to survive on their own. Just because of that we were not calling it killing or murder or whatever. Suddenly the issue turns into "its all a matter of personal opinion and no one can tell anyone else anything." Once you start saying that, how is it possible to say anything of consequence? Balta is a good poster who states what he thinks and I respect that. If he wants to say that its his own business, he has that right and should go ahead.
  16. Timo! Timo! Timo! Oops, still posting like last year. Good thing its Spring Training.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 25, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) So was I. After an egg becomes an embryo, it is capable of growing, but not capable of survival on its own. In fact, some embryos wind up being created but not successfully implanting themselves in the proper spot, and thus wind up not surviving. Hard to call that murder, IMO. Just like it's hard to call the tens of thousands of frozen embryos which are created and destroyed at fertility clinics murder since they're simply not viable on their own. We have people hooked up to respirators that are incapable of surviving on their own, but do have the potential to live if their body can heal. Wouldn't pulling the plug on them be considered murder? Those "embryos" do have the potential for life, and we are effectively pulling the plug on them. We are taking a step to destroy life. So, at what point does it become murder for you?
  18. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 25, 2006 -> 11:00 AM) What circumstances are you referring to? And wrong about what? It's been scientifically proven as to when the fertilized egg becomes a fetus. The argument after that is a personal one. I usually do not hear that when talking about abortion. A lot of people will not make that distinction. It seems to me that many people do not think of a fetus as life. That is why they are willing to say that abortion should be legal until such and such arbritrary point that they think is the beginning of intelligible life. That is what my point is referring to. I think that destroying even a fetus is a very grave matter because it involves life. Many people do not go that far.
  19. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) I am pro-choice, and pro-child. That is not cowardice or supporting the killing of babies. It means two things. One, I think life begins when the fetus has reached a point where it could live on its own - thus, an independent life form. The other thing it means to me is that, knowing the horrors of an abortion, I would never, ever recommend it or endorse it to anyone close to me. But ultimately, its not my choice. I always hear "Who are we to tell someone what to do?", but I am wondering, who are we to decide when life begins? Where do we make that distinction? What happens when we are wrong?
  20. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 11:02 AM) I love being the IT guy, it's so empowering. Nick Burns....Your company computer guy!
  21. QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 09:44 PM) The guy in one of my leagues has 2 teams, Hes giving himself C. Delgado, and david ortiz for B. Wilkerson, and Some other scrub. That's annoying when that happens. If you are on Yahoo, you can bring it to the attention of the Admins, and they will take care of that. Otherwise, I'd search around the site a bit and see if there is anything that can be done about it.
  22. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 06:36 PM) Wow, Vandy you got some work to do. HOWEVER, you have a s***load of RP's, which means there has to be some guys short of RP on other teams. My suggestion to you is to trade Wagner or Rivera, maybe both, FAST. RPs are really overrated in fantasy. They provide saves, but not enough K's, unless you have a stud there not going to be alot of help in ERA either. I would try to package up Bonds and Wagner together for a stud pitcher and a decent outfielder. Sounds like something to try. My other team that has already been drafted looks pretty similar as far as I am again loaded in RP. The lineup looks pretty good in that one too. Maybe I should look a bit more closely at my pre-rankings and move some SP up in it. I have always figured that it was pretty easy to find some pitching off of the waiver wire.
  23. QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 05:54 PM) This is my team I just drafted in this weird-arse draft. C M. Barrett 1B C. Delgado 2B R. Weeks 3B E. Chávez SS J. Rollins OF C. Crawford OF B. Bonds OF M. Holliday Util C. Crisp BN T. Hunter BN P. Fielder BN B. Wilkerson Pitching SP P. Martínez SP R. Harden RP A. Benítez RP C. Orvella P B. Sheets P B. Webb P Z. Duke BN J. Bonderman BN J. Blanton I have an amazing SP, And a pretty good hitting team from my prospective. The relief pitching obviously needs some help. I got Hunter / Fielder / Wilkerson as all backups to mainly Bonds / Crisp if they dont have the seasons they should. I think its pretty good, 12 team 5x5 league head to head. Looks like a pretty slick team there. Not too much missing from that lineup.
