  1. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 08:35 AM) If the next president is Republican, it will be the same thing. Because of all of the information that is now available, I have a feeling that we will never see a presidency in which there is not a White House "scandal" of some sort. Democrat, Republican, Independent, etc. It does not matter. As long as someone has a motive to find something to cause a scandal they will be able to do it even when it is not completely true.
  2. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 01:33 AM) So if a no hitter gets thrown against us then every one goes back to zero That is assuming that they made a pick that day. So, can you deliberately not make a pick if they are going against someone like Johan Santana?
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 03:35 PM) Singleton needs to stop the dead air pauses. Its like listening to a robot or a high school football game on 88.1fm. Up for the sox, pause as he looks up the name, Tadih, ah Gooch. pause, the balls is hit, pause, then 5 seconds of dead air, its an out. I think he can be good in the long run, but he needs some more work on his play by play. He has no flow right now, and that is something that will take a lot of time. Sorry to keep this part of the thread going, I have not heard him. Is he anything like this guy? Boom goes the Dynamite!
  4. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 12:21 PM) We already gave up 3 of our top prospects for Thome and Vazquez. It wouldn't make much sense to be stingy with our prospects now when our bullpen looks weak. I still don't see Beane getting a top prospect for Cruz anyways. I am not convinced that we would give up a prospect. Right now, our bench is really deep. Would one of our bench players make any sense for Cruz? I remember when the trade was done for Cintron that there was talk that Kenny was not done yet.
  5. QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) One non-political/religious reason for this could be that the cost of living in America has gone up tremendously over the past decade. Why have children when healthcare costs and student loan repayments are making it difficult to make ends meet every month? Reminds me of a saying that I have heard. "If you wait until you can afford to have kids, you never will."
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 10:23 AM) What they did in the Crusades under the flag of Christianity was wrong back then, and what they are doing today is wrong now. The religion is not the problem, its the people and their interpretation of what they believe God wants. The true clergy of any religion is going to push non-violence, and being good to one another. You get some other people who decide to push their agenda of what they interpret their religious text to be. Religion should never equal Violence. In Christianity Jesus gave his own life, without a fight, and even told his apostles not to resist with violence. A few hundred years later a few power hungry morons decide that they need to reclaim the holy land from the evil muslims. So they twist the words to incite the weak minded to kill a bunch of people for Jesus, the peacemaker. Now we have some weak minded people who think that their religion is telling them to eraticate all those who are the infidels. People should use that brain of theirs a bit more, and ask Does Allah, the merciful, really want the death of the entire world that isnt muslim? I would almost have to say that you get people with an agenda first, then they say "How can I interpret this religious text so that it fits with my agenda?"
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 09:51 AM) For those of you with PMI, did you not consider borrowing the additional funds via a home equity/line of credit to not have to pay it? PMI is the biggest rip off. I guess that mine actually isn't a PMI payment. It is a secondary loan to pay the down payment needed on the first loan to avoid PMI, but at my last place I did pay PMI. I did that because it was my first house, so I had no equity to borrow the additional funds. I was tired of sending monthly rent checks that were not going towards anything, and figured it was better to pay PMI, but still have the money go somewhere.
  8. I'll throw my Iowa property out there. $1100 mortgage and PMI for 3 BR, 2BA, 1500 sq, 2 car garage built in 2003
  9. Wired came out with an article about someone getting a senior manager position at Yahoo! because of his World of Warcraft experience. Sounds like a good excuse to keep playing those video games to me. Wired
  10. I just ordered mine 2 nights ago from deepdiscountdvd for $42 and free shipping. Anyone do that $20 deal that they offer where you get signed up for a web site, but you can cancel it right away?
  11. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) Gload with a leadoff single. Ozuna with a perfect sac bunt moves Gload to 2B. I love seeing this kind of thing happening.
  12. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) is there going to be a dvd set of ALL the playoff games? obviously the world series was the most important series but i found the angels, red sox games more exciting(maybe with the exception of ws game 2) ? There were some put out on Ebay a while ago, but those were not "official", and they do not show up anymore.
  13. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 03:50 PM) Interesting. Bowden weighs in on Soriano going on the dq list. Basically, if he sits out the year, obviously he doesn't get paid. But moreover, his service time does not increase, so he remains ineligible for free agency after this season. Bowden:So Alfonso, do you ever want to play baseball again? You can add to that. Do you ever want to collect a MLB paycheck again?
  14. 1/3 of an inning and it seems like we are already calling a trade a failure were we lost a guy who was out of options? Did I miss something here? It sounds like he has good stuff, but needs to work on a few things. Doesn't that sound like one of our other pitchers last year? Do we really care if after 1 day he isn't throwing in good spots? Maybe we can give him a chance to see if he improves?
  15. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) Ryan Sweeney in to play LF for Rob Mackowiak. Johnson K's. 1 out Barfield doubles to the RF corner. Greene flies out to Dye in RF. Barfield tags to 3B. 2 outs. Pitching change: Matt Thornton relieves Jon Garland. Giles grounds to Uribe. Uribe with an error. Barfield scores. Giles safe at 1B. 6-5 Padres. Piazza singles to RF. Giles to 3B. Leone hits a MONSTER 3-run homer to LF. 9-5 Padres. Mirabelli walks. Sledge walks. Mirabelli to 2B. Gonzalez lines a single down the LF line. Mirabelli scores. 10-5 Padres. Johnson grounds out to Crede. Inning over, 10-5 Padres. What is the line for an inning like that for Thornton? Would any of those be earned runs?
  16. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 12:59 PM) Now that is just plain untrue. Rates of violent crime of all sorts are many times over what they were under Saddam (with the exception of the Kurdistan region, which is relatively stable). Those numbers are all over the internet, including through reliable channels. I'l go scrape some up if you'd like (they've been posted here before as well). Not that I think that is an argument to leave, by the way. Just want to head that off at the pass. I do not favor getting out of Iraq. To do so would be as irresponsible as the initial war was, if not more so. I would like to see those rates, and I am also curious as to how they were arrived at before and after the regime change. Would incidences have been reported more or less often under the old regime? I would tend to think that there is more freedom to report (and someone to report to) things that are happening within their country.
  17. Aging Process Kind of crazy stuff. They want $3 billion per year to try and slow or completely remove the aging process. Just need to bring yourself in every 40 years for a tune-up.
  18. Is this one on Comcast? I can't remember if I set the DVR up for this one or not.
  19. 17-0 in the fourth. Not done yet. Also, 1-hitter being throne by Clemens so far.

    Mars, B*tches!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) We have never left MARS! Seriously those rovers have kicked an incredible amount of ass. Are those rovers still going? I know that they lasted way longer than they thought they would, and last I heard, they were still moving.
  21. QUOTE(Balance @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 12:40 PM) It's a fertility clinic. The eggs were fertilized in the petri dish. That's what happens in fertility clinics. :banghead Again, call me crazy, but I disagree with what they are doing. IMO, there are plenty of children that need to be adopted and need good parents.
  22. QUOTE(Balance @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 11:14 AM) So far, not as much controversy as I might have expected. Nobody has taken the "life begins at conception" position yet. I guess, since Juggs isn't sround anymore, that's not going to happen. I think it illustrates that there is a significant difference between a baby that has been born and reproductive cells that have just gotten together. Which, of course, was my not-veiled-at-all point. From a life begins at conception position, I got to say, why were they removed in the first place? That in itself is an act close to killing them or at least significantly endangering them. You have pretty much sentenced them at that point already. Like FlaSoxxJim already kind of talked about, you are already subverting God/nature/providence. So, I would definitely take the 2-year old.
  23. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) Anderson beaned I see he is taking over where Rowand left off
  24. I hope that this is able to be pushed through. Any thoughts? Will it make it? http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060306/pl_nm/...HNlYwMlJVRPUCUl
