  1. I've seen Devine pitch quite a few times, but I definitely don't think he belongs in the first half ot he first round. I think he would be a good supplemental pick for a team, as he's got good stuff and has a funky arm angle. The arm angle might cause him injury problems in the future, that would worry me. But all around he's gonna be the quickest to the majors out of anyone in the draft in my opinion. He could help quite a few teams in baseball out of the pen right now. Sometimes his control wanes, but he would still get the outs as hitters would chase anything because they were so overmatched.
  2. Don't be so sure its not the truth, those Canadians can get frisky when they get to the heat in Texas. I've personally had to turn down 3 Canuck girls and a frisky snowman.
  3. I've been believing that also Jason that the Sox could take a chance on a 1st-2nd round talent that fell through in the 3rd. But then its a huge gamble, as we could end up without a 2nd and 3rd round pick if they decide not to sign. I would almost rather go after a great talent that falls way through the rounds and throw 800K at them like the Angels and Red Sox did with guys in last years draft while drafting a good talent that is signable in the early rounds.
  4. I like his age, his size, and his left handed all around style. Might be someone we could pick up in the 3rd-4th round as we need some power injected into the system, especially at 1B.
  5. Forget Dwyane Wade, I've found the next Jordan... http://gprime.net/video.php/thenextjordan
  6. It also depends on the distance from the pitcher, the angle of the gun etc, so its not an exact science by any means. Mainly I look for their offspeed pitches etc and movement on the pitches and how the hitter reacts to the pitches.
  7. San-Diego then Chicago, you poor poor guy. I can't imagine the struggles you will be going through.
  8. Sicko... Here is his scouting report from BA. "The Braves drafted Canadian Scott Thorman with the 30th pick in 2000 because of his tremendous power potential, and the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Weglarz is the best power-hitting prospect Canada has produced since. He has long arms and generates good bat speed and leverage but has mechanical issues that will need to be corrected. Weglarz’ bat will have to carry him because he’s a below-average runner and limited to first base, though he’s mobile around the bag and his arm plays well enough to allow him to play in the outfield on occasion. Scouts got their best chance to see him this spring when he made trips to Florida with Canada’s junior national team and the Montreal-based ABC academy. He was not overly impressive the first time through but showcased his raw power the second time. He was also a member of Canada’s junior national squad that trekked to the Dominican Republic for a series of exhibition games in mid-May. Weglarz is one of the youngest players in this year’s draft. There is no clear consensus where he’ll be drafted, but he should go somewhere between rounds three and five. He’s the only Canadian attending school north of the border projected to go that early. "
  9. I'm gonna be at work listening to the draft yipee. There won't be any research from me until 3 atleast . I might just have to start researching at work though, I don't think I can hold out that long.
  10. Man I'm going nuts waiting for BA to put out their final projection tonight. This is getting ridiculous.
  11. Here's a nice piece on Carillo. Edit: removed If that doesn't work, go here and look at the top right for his video. http://hurricanesports.collegesports.com/s...asebl-body.html
  12. Since nobody else answered, yes wharris that is about right.
  13. It was Andrew Miller. He's a big lefty at 6'5 210 pounds and has a nice 93-94mph fastball and some nasty stuff. But Daniel Bard also a sophomore probably has better stuff with a 95mph heater. But the best pitcher UNC had this year was another sophomore named Robert Woodard, he's trying to join Miller and Bard as 1st round picks next year. UNC has amazing pitching depth, they just are too young and couldn't hit or field this year.
  14. I'm not an expert by any means. But he is the best pitching prospect in probably the past 10 years. He's 19 years old and should be called up sometime around the All-Star break in my opinion. There have been rumblings of his call-up for a month now, so it could happen anytime. He has a great fastball that can sit at 95-96 and just as good of a curveball, he also has a plus changeup and maybe his best pitch is his dominant slider. The Mariners are scared about letting him throw it though I have heard. Felix has it all, the right stuff, the right attitude and all at an amazingly young age.
  15. There's some hard throwers on the top 5 list. I know Joey Devine for instance checking in at #3 hit 92-96mph regularly. I would bet Carillo barely missed the list for fastball. I personally like his fastball because of the natural sink, more so than the possiblity that he might hit 95. Its also been stated that his curveball and changeup are plus pitches, he just overthrew his fastball at times. I think thats actually a good thing, much better than a pitcher that doesn't throw it enough. I'm expecting Carillo to be a 91-92 mph fastball guy with good sink, plus changeup and curveball once he learns to throw them a little more, and a pitcher that is very athletic and should be able to field his position very well. It's also been stated that he can keep his velocity deep into games, thats a huge plus in my mind because I believe that means he has already built up good arm strength and shouldn't hit a dead-arm phase like some other prospects(Garland etc).
  16. I don't see anything wrong with Carillo. "Carrillo throws his fastball anywhere from 90-95 mph (touching 96-97), depending on the need, and he has shown scouts the ability to maintain his velocity deep into games. His fastball has excellent sink and life down in the zone from a three-quarters arm slot, and he went more than 80 innings between home runs allowed this spring. His curveball and changeup both can be plus pitches, though he pitches off his fastball so much that he tends to lose the feel for them at times. He’s athletic and quick-armed and should always have good command. " The guy has nice stuff and good control, is a proven winner, and is athletic and quick-armed. Even if he's only 6'2 165 like some think, he can put on 10 pounds of muscle in our system and be just fine.
  17. It could be just wishful thinking, or it would be a ploy to get someone else above to pick him and let someone we wanted even more to slide down to us.
  18. I have to say I'm not nearly as high on Townsend as most of you seem to be. Not only the year off, but during some mid-May workouts his fastball sat at 85-89mph. With most scouts thinking his intensity will lead to the pen for him, I say no thanks. I would rather end up with Carillo, Clement, or get Ryan Zimmerman if he slides. Zimmerman won't be 21 until late September.
  19. Thats very true, but I really hope everyone doesn't think its limited to Texas, or even to the South. There are dumbass people everywhere, it just seems to be more of an issue in small towns in the south. Whats just is bad is picking on someone retarded like that, they are so innocent, how f***ing evil do you have to be to do that? Gee I wonder where the kids got the racism from? :rolly
  20. I expect the Braves and Marlins to eventually pull away from the pack. I really don't see the Nationals staying up top. Amazingly the Nationals don't have a single pitcher averaging 9 K's per 9 innings, they have to be the worst strikeout club in baseball. Their defense is good enough to allow the pitchers to let the hitter put it in play and still get outs, but I still don't think it will last.
  21. The closest anyone has come to a 50-50 season is Alex in 1998 when he had 42 homers and 46 SB's. Brady Anderson actually had an odd stat during his career in that he's the only player in history to have a 20 homer 50 SB year and a 50 homer 20 SB year.
  22. I don't know whats worse, the wording of the first post or Kalapse quoting Celine Dion.
  23. Oh and I can't forget "gerrymandering".
  24. I'm going to have to go with "skosh" and "craptacular".
  25. Texas didn't play great D at 3B and 1B looks like the perfect position for him. Blalock is a slugging gold glove type 3B, neither are going anywhere anytime soon in my opinion. Soriano will look to be traded for a starter. I could see a Soriano, Adrian Gonzales, Drew Meyer for Roger Clemens trade working for both teams. Texas has been looking to get rid of Soriano's salary while receiving a starter, and the trade could net Houston 3 possible starters for the future and almost two guaranteed future starters(Soriano and Gonzales).
