  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 18, 2012 -> 01:43 PM) If this was politics, Wilder would be the equivalent of Afghanistan for Obama today. While KW didn't bring Wilder into the White Sox organization, he's definitely responsible for what happened on his watch. In the end, the won-loss record and attendance over the next 2 seasons will have a lot more to do with KW's final longevity, just like the economy will determine Obama's eventual fate in November. God knows, Ozzie had enough off-the-field issues like the one with Mariotti or his sons on Twitter (with Jenks, for example, or the signing bonuses for the various children) that would have been fireable offenses in MOST MLB organizations where there wasn't so much loyalty. If I ran a business and my general manager was constantly doing things to alienate his customers (fanbase), then I'm not sure I would have been as patient with Ozzie as JR was. Obviously, that 26-5 run in 2010 bought Guillen 2012. In the end, Ozzie's the one quit on the team, when he saw what a difficult process lay ahead of him with this team. I don't think it's a safe assumption Williams has two years. I doubt very highly that they can have a year like last year (or worse) and bring him back.
  2. In this division the Sox don't need a top 5 farm system to have sustained success, top 15 would probably do it. That is what has been the most frustrating about this organization the last 5 years. In retrospect, we should have probably seen a stretch where they would be at the bottom of minor league systems after the Wilder indictment.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) About the same as all the GOP presidential candidates, minus Ron Paul. 25-35% approval. You'd probably get the same exact numbers for Ozzie Guillen, too. Right. Ozzie is gone.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) Of course a failing one does, because people don't go to see a losing team unless its at Wrigley. But weve already eroded the ticket sales plenty by losing the last couple years...and keeping around Guillen couldn't save that. Win games and people will show. We're not expecting to win games so we cut $30 million in payroll to avoid losing money while rebuilding. With a $90M+ payroll I guarantee you White Sox ownership isn't rebuilding. They could draw roughly the same with a $60m payroll.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 09:05 PM) Just a feeling. Even if Hahn was the GM this year, a 14-22 start would destroy any "bounce" we got out of a regime change. Heck, you can argue that nobody shows up to a White Sox game because of who the manager is, but I'm sure a few VOLUBLE posters would disagree and argue Ozzie's departure is costing 100,000 in attendance, with nothing scientific to back it up. What would you guess Williams approval rating is among Sox fans?
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 08:48 PM) Milkman and Marty, although I don't think Marty pays for season tickets, regardless. What makes you think I don't pay for season tickets? It's beyond ridiculous to think that a failing GM has no effect on ticket sales.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 08:34 PM) Yeah. That's when we'll do things like start clearing space for veterans or trading whoever our closer is for some pitcher who has barely made AA. You don't understand the lack of confidence that Sox fans have in the Kenny Williams regime.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 08:26 PM) What the Hell do you mean by misreading the Chicago Market? The team can't say it's a rebuilding year, but they have cut $30 million from the team's payroll, hired a cheap/rookie manager, traded away a couple key players for minor leaguers, and let one of the guys who will get an outfield statue leave for a ridiculous contract from Miami. If that's not rebuilding then there's no such thing as rebuilding. The only thing they're not doing is saying it, because there's still that 5% shot everything will go right and they will compete for that 2nd wild card. The rebuilding will be signified by a new GM.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 08:08 PM) Fine, you want to call me out? Here's my statement. Peavy and Pierzynski come off the books next year saving $27 million. There are other things that expand slightly, but this statement is correct. Your statement that John Danks is getting paid $2 million this year? That statement was wrong. Peavy and Pierzynski are paid $27 million this year and that money comes off the books. That statement is true. I was willing to let it slide, but you want to be a *****, fine, I'll get technical on you. You can get as technical on me as you want. You're wrong on this and you're wrong on the idea that this is a rebuilding year. If indeed you think it's rebuilding year you are completely misreading the Chicago market.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 08:00 PM) Please, enlighten us then, and actually support it rather than repeating the same thing over and over. You've been wrong at least as many times as I've been, Mr. $27M man.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 01:22 PM) The goal of this season is development. If you think otherwise, you're pretending, and that includes if you are in the group trying to fire Williams. Edit: Holy Hell, 80k. You don't understand the state of the organization. Williams won't be around if this year is anything like last.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 11:55 AM) Use the spreadsheet you just linked to. Jake Peavy gets paid $17 mil this year and has a $4 million buyout in October when his option is not picked up (and counting this for 2013 is silly). AJ Pierzynski is due $6 million this year. 17 + 4 + 6 = 27. your $27M figure is wrong either way because it doesn't account for Danks increase in '13 even if it is from $8M.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 11:52 AM) Well, at least we know not to believe you any more. Where did you get that $27M figure from?
  14. Cotts https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tK7...amp;output=html
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 11:39 AM) Why are we sending $13.5 million more to Jake Peavy? Danks salary increases from 2M this year to $15.75M next year.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 10:42 AM) $27 million comes off the books in Peavy and Pierzynski next offseason. You're telling me you can't upgrade a roster given $27 million? Cut that figure in half with the Danks extension.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 09:23 AM) Peavy's contract clears at the end of this year. Even if Rios and Dunn continue to struggle, that should give the Sox room to add help where they need, and in '13 we won't be looking at a rookie manager, and we'll have guys like Morel, Beckham, and Viciedo with another year under their belts. If the core isn't good enough this year to contend there's no reason to believe it will be in the next two years.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 16, 2012 -> 10:04 PM) And if Beckham, Morel, Viciedo, Sale and Addison Reed all look good and perform well, same thing. If those guys perform well the Sox will contend in 2012 unless Dunn, Rios, Peavy, and Danks, guys the team have spent a lot of money on don't.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 16, 2012 -> 09:54 PM) There's just a difference of opinion between those believing we have to contend in 2012, 2013 or 2014. If the Sox aren't contending in '12 they won't contend in '13 or '14.
  20. Cowley isn't the story. The story is if Kenny is right about this team they will contend. If he is wrong, his tenure as GM is essentially over.
  21. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 04:00 PM) Jordan Danks? He's a 4th/5th OF with his strikeout rate. It's also completely unrealistic to hit on every top prospect. It's why farm system depth is so necessary. Prospects bust. Quite frequently in fact. You can't just grab two or three guys you like and call it a day. What if Molina is a middle of the rotation guy or even a reliever like many scouts believe? What if Sale is the same? I can tell you that the chances that both players end up as top of the rotation starters is very remote. I meant John Danks and his extension. If they are wrong on any of those three then there should be a regime change. That's the hole KW dug.
  22. QUOTE (kapzk @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 02:15 PM) I wonder what his (Peavy) velocity is at? San Diego.
  23. QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 03:30 PM) the lack of depth in the organization is mind blowing Yep. That's why they have to be 100% right on Jo. Danks, Sale, and Molina
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 11:36 AM) Of course, if he did have a sick kid that wasn't disclosed publicly, that would be quite consistent behavior with that rumor as well. Certainly the last in first out would be understandable, but from what I was told his daily routine consisted mostly of sitting in the clubhouse.
