I get that Caroll is both funny and seemingly a great human being, but some people here have the most inflated view of him. When this team gets real depth next year Scott Caroll will never be considered as a bullpen option. His future isn't as a long man, his future is most likely bouncing around AAA teams until he calls it quits. Of course I could see a scenario where the Sox release him and no one picks him up and he just stays in Charlotte until he quits.
I don't think anyone thinks Carroll is good or part of any meaningful future. Just that he's better than Noesi. Which he is. Noesi is out of options, but whatever, not like he has any future either. Carrolls been lucky this year but he's also pretty damn immune to giving up anything hard hit, complete opposite of Noesi in that regard.
If we're playing for this year I'd much rather have Carroll on the team. Long term it doesn't matter since neither should be here.
