I'd say that's a pretty common occurrence where a couple of people starts talking in their own language about other people. I know Spanish and I was cracking up this one time when this hispanic couple in front of me in the check-out was talking about people at the store and ripping on them. I don't think it's a rip on Asians; it's just a somewhat common occurence to see people speaking in their own language, probably about other people, and it's a play on that sort of experience that is common to a lot of Americans.

Is Maggs ready for RF?

Increasing the RJ speculation...

unless he switched to catcher or can come in and pitch in the 7th/8th inning, I don't really want him.

Having Garcia, Buehrle, and Garland go against the Yanks would be pretty solid. Garcia has beat them in the past in the post season. I think Buehrle can step up and I feel like Garland could end up being a secret weapon for the White Sox in the playoffs, sort of a Jarod Washburn or Josh Beckett sort of guy.

For some reason, I like our chances bettern against NYY in a best of three rather than a best of four. I dunno why...
-
I dunno. It's just that the whole Cleveland thing irritates me and Wedge is an extension of that. Plus, that line-up looks like murder's row. and they've got some solid starters (featuring arguably 2 of the top 5 pitchers in the division). Pitching changes are a big part of a manager's job. Knowing his bullpen is so weak, shouldn't Wedge be held accountable somehow? I mean, every time anybody but Marte or Takatsu enter a game, people want Ozzie's head. If you've got a team with 5 all-stars on it, you shouldn't be tied with Detroit for 3rd. Maybe it's a case where the sum is less than the parts, which seems like something that would be the manger's fault (it got Jerry Manual fired, anyways). Oh well, it's not too big of a deal, I guess.
-
Their manager got fired, right? He deserved it. If you can't win with those guys, you should be fired. That's sort of my point. I'm pissed off about hearing that Wedge should be considered for manager of the year when his team has 5 all-stars and is tied with the Tigers.

like I said... great stadium

The irony of it was partially intended... Anyways, SS2k4, what's the deal with the song? Is that Shingo's entrance song?

Gleason, I see your point. I think there is a double standard in that everybody is so sensitive about minorities and that everything that can slightly be tied back to the race of a minority is racist. First off, let me say that I'm white and male, so that probably colors my opinions a bit. If anybody calls an Italian a dago or a guinny, no big deal. If anybody calls a Polish person a pollack, no big deal. If anybody makes fun of an Irishman or Scottsman for having excessive drinking habits based on nothing more than race, no big deal. If anybody calls a white person a cracker, no big deal. If a black person uses the "N-word" on another black person, it's no big deal. If a white person uses it, they're a bigot, racist, etc. Nobody can use the C-word or G-word to describe anybody Oriental. All the terms used above were offensive at one point or another, be it now or in the recent past. Which ones are offensive now? Where does the double standard lie? And you say that So how is that different from the gong?

Probably not... but it just says something weird about a team if it's got 5 all-stars AND the "best manager" in baseball. Something doesn't add up...
-
My biggest thing with the whole way it played out is that I can accept that there's either 5 Indian all-stars OR that Wedge should be considered for manager of the year. I think they're exclusive. If you take the 5 Indian All-stars, then that should put Wedge on the hotseat for having a club that is underachieving and apparently not playing well as a team. That's my beef.

Is calling Hideko Matsui "Godzilla" racist then?
-
I heard something from Mulligan this morning, about the Yankees being pissed at the White Sox over what happened when they clinched homefield at the Cell last year. Was there an incident or anything? I don't remember this at all.

I like the Cardinals for reasons independent of the Cubs rivalry: Tony LaRussa, great stadium, some good players. I don't really care what the Cubs are doing now that we don't play them any more. Although, their recent meltdown makes for some great sports radio.

It's pretty sweet, actually. IIRC, it's like this weird techno song... and it's played to this highlight footage of him. Mr. Zero scrolls down one side of the screen and Mr. Zero in Japanese scrolls up on the right side.

So would it be racist if our closer was named O'Mally and his intro featured a leprachaun and a pot of gold? Or if we had a Scottsman closer and bagpipes played when he finished the game? I dunno, sometimes a gong is a gong. If Asians get really offended by it, I'm sure that Mariotti will write an article and we'll all hear about it.
-
I think his biggest issue is that he can't locate the cutter inside like he did last year. It was nasty how well he spotted that pitch last year. If his location improves, he'll return to form.
-
I think it's great that we have a great closer and that there's getting to be a lot of hype around him. I don't think the gong is politcally incorrect. I read an article the other day about how Japanese ballplayers approach the game like they are samurai, so I'm sure Shingo doesn't mind it at all. It's all in the name of a good show, intimidating the opponents, and I'm sure nobody minds at all. PS- Foulke blew a game yesterday. Koch probably did, too.

There's free parking on the IIT "campus." Check out Michigan street between 31st and 35th. Park south of 35th at your own risk. It's maybe a 5 block walk, so it isn't too bad.
-
didn't he pitch 3 complete game winners in a row? the guy is unbelievable. however, how does he perform in the playoffs? I've forgotten, but for some reason had the feeling he didn't fare so well there.

this resurgence has everything to do with the stadium refit and Ozzie Guillen.
