  1. According to Gonzales' Twitter, Thome and cash to the Dodgers for IF Justin Fuller. ETA: Contreras and $ to Colorado for RHP Brandon Hynick.
  2. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 10:16 PM) Rumors flying around that Jake Kelly is leaving Iowa. Jermaine Davis has already left as well. Kelly and Gatens were the only two players Iowa had that are decent. Yep. Kelly to Indiana State, I believe, to be closer to family. Davis to a D2 school in Minnesota (heard grades were a major issue). Palmer won't return, thank goodness. Peterson is looking at transferring as well, so he's the only one that's still up in the air at this point. They also lost the commitment of a 2010 in-state recruit that few people were excited about to begin with, so probably not the best day that the program has had in recent years. I think that Lick is a pretty good Xs and Os coach, but recruiting is already a question and now it sounds like there have been communication issues as well. What really sucks is that there are essentially no good recruits left in this class, so there's an even better chance that next year will be horrendously bad. Wanna have a cripple fight, Heads?
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) and probably Mark Titus as well. I thought Titus was only a Jr. Is he in line to graduate? Club Tril can not die!
  4. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 06:27 PM) I really expect Obama to CRUSH McCain in Iowa. College students are really getting into it, which is f***ing awesome to see, no matter your party. Political involvement kicks ass. Agreed. And it really has been great to see, especially since older generations tend to discredit the youth vote, claiming that we never show up on election day. Methinks it'll be a little bit different this time around.
  5. 1 vote for Obama on the Northern Iowa campus, the place was packed!
  6. While this is an awful situation for the victim and her family, the Press-Citizen put forth some of the most irresponsible reporting that I've ever witnessed. I was initially outraged when I read their story, thinking that several coaches and members of the Athletic Dept were involved in some sort of cover-up. After reading this, however, I believe that they are attempting to sensationalize this story. Yes, there were faculty and AD members that screwed up immensely here, but Coach Ferentz and Barta appeared to have nothing to do with this horrible situation other than the initial meeting. From there Ferentz suspended and subsequently dismissed the players. Should the legal process have been handled differently? Absolutely. Was there some elaborate cover-up by Ferentz, Barta, and some within the AD? I seriously doubt it after taking the full letter into consideration. The victim's mother clearly points out the individuals she takes issue with the most on this matter. As for the other issues the football program have had over the past few years, there most certainly was a problem at one point. Everything I've heard indicates that the coaches spent an inordinate amount of time this spring going over these problems in an effort to clean the program up. I believe that the problems stemmed from a larger issue that the coaches have already started to rectify, although obviously not completely with the recent arrest of an incoming freshman. What frustrates me more than anything is the fact that I recently graduated from Iowa and had class with so many guys on the football (as well as basketball) teams. Everyone of those guys were absolute gentlemen and each and every guy I talked to were sick and tired of these idiots dragging them and the program down. No, that doesn't change anything that has happened in the past nor the present, I'm not that naive. I just think we all need to wait for the full facts to come out in this particular case, knowing what recent history has already taught us. It's very easy to let the actions of a few determine your view of an entire group. I believe that some university members will come out of it looking pretty bad, but not to the extent or the number that the Press-Citizen wants you to think. I believe that a few members absolutely bungled this situation, and if all is proven true, should go down for it. Until then, I'll reserve any other judgment. I'll re-post the link to the mother's letter here in case anyone missed it within the body of the text: Full Letter From Victim's Mother
  7. We've got a LOLCAT! Pretty cool on their part.
  8. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) well in IC's case, think back to the tornado that ripped through downtown in '06, then this past winter, now all this. Dayum. Ugh, true that. Friggin' thing jacked up my apartment and totaled my car. I was very lucky compared to what a lot of people are facing now, though. The winter after that had crazy ice storms, then this past winter was bananas on into the spring tornadoes and now summer flooding, I'm hoping we get a bit of a break sometime here. The team I coach will actually play their tournament in IC this Friday/Saturday, so I'll try and get some pictures from around town and campus.
  9. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 04:36 PM) Do prisoners in Iowa REALLY wear these outfits??? I thought they were dressed up for Halloween! Ha! That's from Vinton, IA. Veeeery small town just northwest-ish of Cedar Rapids. They're just a few years behind the times, but I love that place. Lots of cool little mom & pop shops.
  10. These were taken a couple days ago, and show the extent of the damage to the Coralville Strip so far. The Wig & Pen is an awesome little place right off the strip; They said the last time they were flooded (which wasn't nearly this bad) that it took 3 months to get it back open. I can't imagine how long it'll take this time. The second picture is an aerial view of the strip. You can see the outline of the U of I's softball complex, where the team I help coach is supposed to have a tournament in two weeks, highly doubting that one at this point. At the top of this picture is Carver-Hawkeye Arena, which will hopefully be okay now that the reservoir has crested. Late last week, however, the water was inching closer to the driveway, which is downhill until the back entrance, which is then downhill to the locker rooms/offices/equipment room and finally the playing floor. It will be quite some time before a lot of the communities affected begin to look the same again.
  11. Oh goodness. A levee breached in Coralville, spilling water onto 1st Ave./HWY 6(The Coralville Strip). A hotel has been evacuated, and several homes and businesses are now in trouble. The U of I softball complex is apparently also under water; this is right along HWY 6. The IMU, EPB and Main Library (in addition to several others) have also been shut down on campus. All sports camps have been canceled for the next two weeks. Cedar Rapids is getting absolutely nailed, but I think Coralville/Iowa City may turn out to be much worse. Press-Citizen Link ETA: This is supposed to have a live feed of local coverage for those interested. They're doing an absolutely fantastic job. KCRG - Cedar Rapids ETA2: This is from the Coralville Strip at 8:15 tonight. Sorry, I don't know how to embed stuff yet.
  12. The 6th St. railroad bridge in downtown Waterloo apparently just went. That area as well as downtown Cedar Falls are being evacuated. Water has reached the OP in Waverly. This is horrible.
  13. QUOTE (quickman @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 07:14 PM) crap I didn't see it watching the hockey game, where did he hit it too? Concourse in CF! It was absolutely destroyed
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 08:33 PM) You're welcome. x2
  15. Wesley Johnson leaving ISU Sorry Heads I cheer for the other team, but he was fun to watch. Are there any recruits coming in that can take that spot?
  16. Clinton Campaign Volunteer's Disgusting Comments This may be an isolated incident, but after this whole campaign, would you really put it past her?
  17. I also posted this in the Obama's Pastor thread, but I felt that it also pertained to this election, so I'll provide the link here as well. An admin can delete if they wish. Rev. Wright's Sermon in Context
  18. Rev. Wright Speech in Context Someone directed me to this website tonight. Think any of the MSM will give it a peek as well?
  19. Just wanted to add this (non) information that came out this afternoon: According to their sources today, Ferentz did in fact board a plane yesterday, but not to go to Michigan to interview, rather to visit a couple NFL sites to look at practice facilities as Iowa is looking at overhauling theirs, especially the indoor facility. They are also reporting that according to a source extremely close to the situation, Ferentz is no longer an option for the Wolverines. In their words, it's over and done with, Ferentz will not be the next head coach at Michigan. Now, they will turn their full attention to Les Miles. If that falls through, never say never with regards to Ferentz, but according to their source, "Once Kirk has come to a conclusion, he doesn’t second-guess himself.” This is according to the Michigan Rivals site. Ferentz also had a team meeting yesterday to discuss practice and things of that sort. Apparently they can still practice until they're officially out of bowl consideration.
  20. That's just awful, prayers for his family I also wanted to pass along a quote from Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz, this is one good thing about the Big Ten, the fact that there is a camaraderie between coaches. “The entire Iowa football family wants to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Terry Hoeppner on their loss. He was an outstanding football coach and an even better man. His passing is a terrible loss to Indiana University and college football.” Additional prayers for the players and fans
  21. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 20, 2007 -> 10:09 PM) And even if they work for a while, doesn't it decrease the likeliness of it working if you had to get more, and don't they limit the number of shots you can take? There's still a long way to go this season. Yep, I had a series of 3 over 3 months. I recall them telling me that they limit you to that amount over 6 months. It sucks when the numbing shots help your pain/mobility more than the actual cortisone shots, because you realize that you're pretty much screwed.
  22. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 20, 2007 -> 10:02 PM) They're steroidal, reducing inflammation. So in that sense it's probably the best thing you can do for a bulging disc. It doesn't "heal" the injury in that it's not a permanent fix, but it's certainly the best thing you can do in the short term for immediate results without rehab... /not a doctor. ^^^^ At least that's what I was told. I wanted to avoid back surgery at all costs, so cortisone shots were the next best option. Those didn't work for me and aren't guaranteed to help everyone else, obviously in Crede's case.
  23. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ May 20, 2007 -> 09:34 PM) Joe Crede-3B-White Sox May. 20 - 10:00 pm et Joe Crede received a cortisone shot for his sore back after leaving Sunday's game. Ouch, I had 3 series of those shots a couple years ago in my lower back as well. It took a few days before being able to get back to softball practice, not fun at all, hope he's feeling better soon!
  24. QUOTE(Brian @ May 18, 2007 -> 03:04 PM) This is when Erstad usually gets his hits. 2 outs and a RISP. Got any lottery numbers?
