QUOTE (Tony @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) Dave LaRoche with some comments. http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/16781...adbpr=595667888 "He would've never signed with the White Sox had they not agreed that it was fine for Drake to be there. Someone either wasn't truthful or changed the rules."

With what so many professional athletes do on the road, it's amazing to me they'd ever want any particular kid so heavily involved in the clubhouse. It's one thing to know your teammates will keep their mouth shut, but it's another to trust a teenager to keep secrets.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) Congrats Bmags! My son is almost 9 months old now...there's nothing like it. Enjoy the last few months before he's running away from you

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:29 PM) Yes again the kid being there or not shouldn't deter Laroche or the players from playing. They are paid a crap load of money to play baseball. Most Americans leave their kids to go to work. How is LaRoche the exception to the rule. I still think part of the boycott was due to the schedule for stretching before the game being thrown off.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) This is about the team meeting they had: Christopher Crawford @CVCrawfordBP 59m59 minutes ago San Diego, CA Karl Ravech was just on television saying the White Sox were willing to boycott their ST game over this Laroche situation. That's..something http://www.businessinsider.com/white-sox-p...-laroche-2016-3 "This is a team that was not going to go out and practice," Ravech said. "And furthermore, this was a team that ultimately said to the manager 'we're not going to go out and play in that game at 1:00.' You had a team that was willing to stand by the player and not participate in practice, and moreso, not participate in an exhibition game." The only thing that kept the players from boycotting was manager Robin Ventura who told that he needed them to play for him, that it was his job and it was their job. At that point, the players relented. Thanks for posting, if what Ravech is saying is true, then Ventura just had his best moment as a Sox manager

QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) you are the voice of reasoning against my temper but that brings up another question, can the team rebound and continue on the magical good feelings that was coming from the team.... btw, maybe the word mutiny in my stance is a little too much, so substitute the word with a strike. Rumor is that they are going to win to spite Kenny Williams, as they have a poster of him and will rip off part of his clothing after each win.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 03:18 PM) you make a point and a good one. for this thread, does the org have the right to chg the rules or policy of their club, outiside the idea of it is not against the union / cba rules and policy???? of course
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) the thing is, i voiced my opinions and this morning i made my final post on that matter. but i was reading this thread, why, b/c the posters and all of them are really intelligent and i love to read opinions. but this little snippet has me out rage. the gall of the players, who has it so easy, partly b/c the sox as an org believes in going out and making it easy and a great atmosphere. that is all JR's doing. but this little mutiny is a slap in the face against the org and us the fans. maybe i am over reacting. but i am pissed. They are supporting their teammate....not a shock. The fact it involves family makes it an even more hot topic. If LaRoche does confirm the retirement, I'm not sure what the next step is by the organization to settle things down.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 03:06 PM) now i wish the media experts take this a rpt on it..... this is pure and simply ugly for players to overreact. the players are employees and the boss says this are the new rules of the day, and if it not against the union rules, the players have no ground to threaten and mutiny by refusing to play. The Sox have a few high-profile players that speak/act first before thinking it through (I'm sure every team does).
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:57 PM) ohhh this is bullshiite, a team mutiny over a exec decision that really not even a in-game baseball decisions. but if this is true, how could the FO deal with this.... i guess RV did it right. but this is bullshiite from the players. i wonder who is the leading player making this decision. there is always a leader Sale, Frazier and Eaton are my picks to click. Remember the meeting went very long, so it could be where they didn't want to play because they didn't get to do their normal stretching routine, etc.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:57 PM) And if they decided to fix it, it should have been in November or December when they started talking about spring training and how it would be run. I agree with that, but that's why the most simple explanation is one of the newer player(s) complained to KW about it.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:56 PM) Exactly, Nightengale's column hit on that. Kids are around clubhouses once in awhile, or maybe home games. But to be around 100% of the time whereever his dad was, traveling with them on the plane and living in the hotel? Its ok to ask to have that dialed back. Especially if they feel Adam didn't live up to expectations last year due to potential lack of focus/preparation.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 01:52 PM) I would bet there is a guy Drake LaRoche's age or younger around the Sox clubhouse 162 games this season even if LaRoche sticks with retiring. If it was so burdensome, why was this addressed in March of 2016, 13 months after this has been going on? Easy...someone complained to KW
-
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) I think that whole thing is overblown. And the players played yesterday, so clearly they weren't that militant that a weak manager like Ventura could talk them into playing. Just wait until LaRoche makes it official he's retiring, that's when I think things get worse with the players. As of now, maybe they're holding out hope he returns.
-
QUOTE (Gakman23 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) On Mike and Mike right now they are discussing how Robin had to basically beg the players to play yesterday after they found out Kenny stepped into the office and made the no LaRoche jr allowed in the office every day. Sounds like a team all on the same page, but I would guess someone probably complained behind the scenes and that's why this happened. That's not good to hear about the game. Hate to say this but LaRoche returning might be what's best for the clubhouse.
-
QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:36 PM) Worse than his batting average, K rate, and general suck factor? His body language and energy was worse than any of those stats last year.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) Exactly. Eaton has been tweeting about it and a "source" says Sale is pissed. Yet how many other players are quiet about the situation? Why do you think that is? And those are two guys who were here last year and used to it. Maybe the new guys came in and thought it was a distraction.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) From anyone who has said anything about the kid, including those that don't have a dog in the fight, there is no reason to believe he caused any kinds of trouble. If KW wanted to change the policy, he could have changed it in a couple of weeks. The kid isn't around every day during the season. He plays on 2 teams one in the Chicago area and one in Kansas. While he was around more than the 50% KW has now said is too much but 49% would be just fine, it wasn't the 100% many have said. Which is why the Abbatacola report makes the most sense for why this situation took place when it did.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) No he wasn't involved in team meetings. He did odd jobs and didn't have access to the clubhouse during games. Read the articles I linked earlier in this thread. LaRoche didn't ask for special privileges at all. He was doing as he did last year when the Sox said nothing. Either ban kids or give them x amount of passes. Many teams ban kids. If that is the policy, fine. Don't half assed adjust said policy because you think one kid is around too much.KW said it wasn't about this kid, it's about the next player who wants to bring his kid every day. Why didn't he ban kids when Ozzie was managing? Why does anyone think KW would admit if a player told him it was about the kid. That's a great way to kill team chemistry even more. It's no shock to me that the only media member to supposedly hear something is someone not associated with the Sox.
-
Woke up today wondering if this has nothing to do with Drake and everything to do with the team believing Adam's not focusing enough on baseball. Either way, the sooner this story goes away, the better.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 05:18 AM) Fathom is right. At some point, religious discrimination or "persecution" is going to come into this eventually...whether it's an accusation via Twitter or a legal argument. I was being sarcastic when I said that. It's not like LaRoche's beliefs weren't known before he signed here Also if it was for those reasons, I'm confident in saying the whole team would have walked out
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 05:08 AM) David Kaplan @thekapman 42m42 minutes ago Just so we're clear: Sox agreed to let LaRoche have son be around 100% of the time. Condition of him agreeing to sign w/the White Sox. 100%. I don't know how this guy is seen as credible What if LaRoche is the person who told him this new info after hearing things from Sox management earlier?
-
Waiting for Kaplan to now say it's something ridiculous like political or religious beliefs that caused them to do this
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 03:56 AM) God, I f***ing hate Kaplan. Of course this s*** would come from him. Funny that the story is similar to the Fowler-Orioles debacle that he called Fowler a tremendous human being for
