QUOTE (Saufley @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:37 PM) Oh boy. I can't wait until Bears training camp! Just wait until the Tigers sign Cespedes
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:33 PM) Well, if true, makes 0 sense. Agreed....of course, maybe JR is gun shy after Hahn's horrible FA acquisitions last year.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:17 PM) Nothing in that article really states the White Sox are cooling on the players, but instead are seeing if their prices fall further. There is a big difference between those two things. There was nothing new in that article. Just a writer putting together his opinion based on all the tweets/articles that came out yesterday.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 08:09 PM) So there's also no reason NOT to believe the White Sox didn't offer four years and $80 million to Gordon on Monday, December 27th. We have the national writers saying three years was the max tendered and our inside sources saying four. I've not seen this from a single person

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 07:30 PM) Junior? Escape Plan
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 07:31 PM) Otoh, we paid a premium for offensive potential in Cabrera and didn't get any there, either. Gordon would have received the biggest contract in Sox history. Melky's deal is hardly a "premium", despite how much you want to try and spin the Gordon deal from KC's side.

You guys are far too mature for me. In no particular order, my favorites are: - Shawshank - Borat - Major League - Wedding Crashers - Lego Movie - The Girl Next Door - Great Escape - Little Big League

QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 07:43 PM) Some interesting things to point out just from a quick glance. Dexter Fowler was essentially responsible for 20 runs scored in 2014 and around 13 last year. As opposed to Jason Heyward who was +24(saved). Cespedes was also better than Alex Gordon in that department. Alex Gordon dropped off pretty significantly. I never understood the Sox paying a premium for LF defense with Gordon given the smaller dimensions at the Cell compared to KC

I said this yesterday, but if the Sox were only going to go 3 years on these guys, there's no way it was going to work financially with where this year's payroll is already at.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 02:55 PM) I wonder if a 3 year/$90 million deal would work. The Sox could pay him $20 million in 2016 and $35 million in 2017/2018. That's a huge payroll commitment for 1 guy in the last 2 years of the deal, but the duration of the contract isn't too bad. Plus it saves money for 2016 while Danks and LaRoche are still on the books. Gross...Cespedes is just not worth a huge number like this. Much rather have Desmond for significantly cheaper
-
Cespedes is definitely type of guy who would seem to shine in his walk year
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:43 PM) I don't think that gets it done from Miami's standpoint but we'll see. Definitely works for me though. Hopefully the Rangers get Ozuna, and that takes them out of the running for Upton
-
QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 09:20 PM) You could recoup it next off-season by offering Upton a QO Good point, I take back my "hell no" and say "probably not"
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 09:40 PM) How about trading for ozuna? On mlbtr they are said to be looking for a young pitcher. This is a guy I would trade Adams and maybe another piece for. Erik Johnson for Ozuna and then sign a starting pitcher
-
RHP, are we set or are we missing opportunities?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 09:38 PM) The big problem here is the costs for clear upgrades at SS (Desmond), SP (Kennedy, Gallardo, Chen, Fister, Latos) and outfield (Span, Parra, Fowler, Jackson maybe) are going to cost more than Gordon for any combination of two together, with the possible exceptions of Jackson/Parra and one of the weaker pitchers. Haven't you been advocating going after SS/OF/SP as a trio instead of one of the big 3 for the last two weeks? -
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:38 PM) Would you guys prefer Cespedes by himself or Span/Jackson as a package? Span/Jackson is the more likely outcome it seems like, but Cespedes is much more talented. No it's not...doubt either want to head into a platoon situation.
-
Hell no to 1 year deal for Upton with having to give up draft pick
-
To me, it didn't seem like anything specific to point to that being the plan. I honestly believe the Sox will add an impact piece or multiple solid pieces, as they seem to have available money and don't usually sit on it heading into the season.
-
Looks like next step is a mid-tier SP for KC Jon HeymanVerified account @JonHeyman Royals get back Gordon. Will look at starting pitcher now. Have Kennedy, Chen, gallardo on radar. @FlannyMLB 1st with AG
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) If we miss out on Upton and Cespedes, I'd be more interested in Desmond than Fowler. Couldn't agree more
-
whitesoxdave @barstoolWSD 2h2 hours ago Kinda obvious, but was just told "this is great for the Sox and Yo"... If Baltimore nuts up for Davis even better
-
QUOTE (Sockin @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 05:32 PM) I would prefer this if you can't land Cespedes/Upton. I don't know how you do that without giving up Anderson though. Clearly they would sign Desmond then
-
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 05:31 PM) Watch Hahn surprise everyone and trade for CarGo. or Ozuna
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 05:08 PM) I expect a Cespedes signing in the next 48 hours. Ugh, these comments again
-
Another reason I doubt the get Cespedes is that if they don't want to go too many years, the AAV would have to be higher. Given their payroll for 2016, it would be hard to get creative with a lower amount for 2016 if it's only a 3 year deal.
