White Sox interested in SS Ian Desmond
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 12:34 AM) Can't see any of those teams actually needing him to play short (which is what my post said). Unless it was reported they were. Cardinals: Peralta (won't move to third due to Carpenter) Nationals: Drew/Espinoza holding down the fort until Turner comes up. Indians: Lindor (maybe play Desmond at third? Doubt they will get involved). Angels: Simmons Sorry didn't see the SS filter. Only teams for SS could be Twins and Rays

White Sox interested in SS Ian Desmond
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 01:21 AM) Lol seriously. I can only think of one team that could use him off the top of my head: White Sox. (At short stop any way) Possibilities: Cardinals, Nationals, Indians, Angels

White Sox interested in SS Ian Desmond
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 10:53 PM) I will say this- I don't think a front office would ever even consider looking at WAR numbers when putting together a team. I disagree, and I'm sure every team has a similar formula to determine how valuable a player is.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 10:43 PM) If desmond ends up sacking I blame fathom He's not a very enjoyable player to watch. Tons of strikeouts, tons of errors. With that said, he is a great buy-low candidate

For me, I used to hate WAR. But the more I analyzed it, the more I realized how it was eliminating the viewer bias I had when watching certain players.

Judging by his twitter account, Desmond is not in Chicago taking a physical....he's out fishing today

Keith Law releases annually farm system rankings
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 08:54 PM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/orga...-rankings-list/ BA ranks us at #23. I know they graduated a ton last year but still surprised the Cubs fell to #20. Texas traded a bunch of prospects for Hamels but improved from #11 to #7. Braves went from #29 to #3, pretty impressive. More shocking was how high Law had the Cubs ranked

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 09:04 PM) Seems steep, honestly. Desmond Jennings is pretty blah. Before last year's injury-plagued season, Jennings had been better than Fowler in 4 straight season.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 09:59 PM) Can't imagine the Sox would be interested in much more than a 1 year deal + club option with Anderson waiting in the wings, unless they plan to use him in the IF. I'd love to see Desmond, but still think they should add an OF in addition. Always felt that if they had the money and desire to give up a draft pick, my dream scenario was Desmond and Jennings. I wonder if Saladino and Petricka gets you Jennings, as Tampa has been known to be looking for some more SS help.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 09:42 PM) .674 OPS last year, right? Yep, clearly had a bad year last season. Hope is it was an outlier and he bounces back to the form that made him the best SS in baseball. I don't expect him to be a near 5 WAR player, but I'm confident he can be a 2.5

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 09:40 PM) I know the Sox need to improve defense, but I have a really hard time stomaching a FA deal for a guy whose offense is so bad. Desmond?

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 09:39 PM) I really do like this. Saladino coming in as a defensive replacement and spot starting is his ideal role imo. Sanchez replacing Lawrie. Shuck replacing Avi in RF. Saladino replacing Melky in LF. Not bad. That's if we sign Desmond and/or don't sign/trade an OF. I also love the idea of Saladino as a PR. Saladino would get plenty of at bats backing up Frazier/Lawrie/Desmond. Would give the others a chance to DH vs LHP as well.

Dodgers released Alex Guerrero
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 09:38 PM) Players who do not have a good approach at the plate and are huge defensive liabilities, that Viciedo and Avi for us. Guerrero fits into that category. As previously mentioned, Avi is younger and still getting stronger. While Guerrero has more power at this point, he still doesn't solve our issues of OBP and outfield defense. Wasn't all of Guerrero's power the first few months? Seemed he had ten homers early and just fell off a cliff.

3 straight tweets about Desmond....that's it, done deal

Dodgers released Alex Guerrero
Seems like a trade with the Indians would make a lot of sense

Orioles DO NOT Sign Fowler
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 12:40 AM) I just hate that Fowler doesn't do anything to improve the OF defense. If he were a good defender, I'd be fine with it. Remember when Hahn said any addition would have to be a good fit? Absolutely thought at the time he meant that Fowler wouldn't help the defense.

Orioles DO NOT Sign Fowler
Simplest solution is they have no money left

White Sox Sign Mat Latos
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 10:15 PM) if they "promised" him that already then they really don't have much confidence in Johnson at all. Some strange things relating to Johnson over the last few years: - inexplicable velocity drop - going to an outside source for help - rumor that Sox were looking to trade him

White Sox Sign Mat Latos
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 10:22 PM) Just to point out roster is now full. There has to be at least one more bat brought in, as right now there's no one to push LaRoche.

White Sox Sign Mat Latos
I think Latos has a much better chance of rebounding than Lincecum

White Sox Sign Mat Latos
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 10:10 PM) Just makes you wonder what is really up with Latos when Fister, Arroyo, and Masterson all got deals with the possibility to make double what Latos got. As everyone here noted his peripherals were for the most part good and his velocity was even up a tick. Plus he's still under 30. The writing is on the wall for a very plausible bounce back and there was literally 0 market for him? Just doesn't make any sense. Either he's the world's biggest douche or there's something else up we don't know about. Or he really wanted to go somewhere that would promise him a starting spot?

White Sox Sign Mat Latos
From mlbtraderumors chat: 2:08 Justin: Thoughts on Latos to WSox? 2:09 Steve Adams: Pretty stunned that the deal is $3MM without any sort of incentives. There are tons of reports of Latos' clubhouse persona being a negative, and I've heard from a couple execs who were very averse to the thought of adding him to their clubhouse, but I still expected a bigger guarantee. Love it for the Sox.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 09:11 PM) Better yet, Puig. You have been pretty outspoken about his character issues, what stories are you going on? For Latos, it's just general reputation. Seen some stuff on twitter in last 15 minutes by writers for other teams saying he's a horrible clubhouse person. Colin DunlapVerified account @colin_dunlap 48m48 minutes ago I can't get mad at Pirates for not bringing in Mat Latos. Heard from many he's one of worst clubhouse guys out there. Atrocious teammate.

Might as well turn full heel (bad guy) and trade for Braun
