  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 06:29 PM) basically the hype of getting another of'er for the mix is now moot. oh i can't stand this, the sox may go into the season without finishing this job with a question mark in Avi in the out field.... ok he may have fixed his stance, let him DH and perfect his hitting. People are outraged about Avi, but really it's the inability to unload LaRoche and his 13 million which is a bigger issue IMO.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 05:25 PM) I'd be ok with a Garcia/LaRoche platoon at DH, but if Avi is the full time right fielder, I'll be enraged. Get ready to be enraged
  3. QUOTE (shysocks @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 06:00 PM) The talking up of Avi continues. He's gonna be the starting right fielder and I'm gonna lose my freaking mind. Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 8m8 minutes ago Todd Steverson said Avisail Garcia was very receptive to trying a new stance when they worked out for 3 days in Miami. Promises diff. look. Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 7m7 minutes ago Todd Steverson on Avisail Garcia: "“You can tell people, tell people, tell people. But until they get a hold of it in their own head." Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 3m3 minutes ago Basically, #WhiteSox know there's much to be done & it's early. They're hoping Avisail Garcia gets comfy w/ new stance in spring. They better find someone to share at bats with LaRoche. No way can this roster be complete right now. If so, Hahn better be on the hot seat.
  4. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 03:26 AM) I still think the Sox will add another player, I'm just not sure who it will be. I still hold onto some hope for Jackson, but that's just my preference at this point. Winning ball games would certainly help create that environment but unfortunately they have not been doing so for quite sometime. I hate to say it but the south side is probably not very attractive from a free agents POV. I do find these rumors interesting in another way. Early in the off season when Desmond's name was first mentioned, many fans ( myself included) were staunchly against the idea. Look at us now. Ha I remember being pissed when it came out Fowler was more likely than the big 3. Now it would seem like a big addition.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 03:12 AM) Good stuff but I will have enjoyed offseason more if they add another starting player. Kind of sick of the excuse of "they wanted to go back to their team". After a while, you need to create an environment where players want to come play for you. Just to add, I believe that environments exists for pitchers with the Sox.
  6. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 04:07 AM) Meh, I take it all with a grain of salt until Desmond signs with a team. We read similar things about how Lawrie talks had stalled and then days later the trade was made and IIRC the same thing happened with Frazier. I'm not saying the Sox will or will not sign Desmond, just patiently waiting to see how it all plays out. For all we know, " that ship has sailed" , could mean Desmond signed with another team and it hasn't been announced yet. Point is, we don't know since there's nothing to confirm either way. I find the conflicting reports to very interesting though. It's the media, so lets not believe anything any of them have to say. If the Sox FO comes out and says something, THEN I'll believe it but until then its just some baseball rumors to talk about and its those rumors that help the off season fly by and get us to ST. Personally, I've enjoyed the hell out of this off season. Good stuff but I will have enjoyed offseason more if they add another starting player. Kind of sick of the excuse of "they wanted to go back to their team". After a while, you need to create an environment where players want to come play for you.
  7. QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 03:05 AM) Stop being rational and understanding how the process of the media works. When I read the above posts, all I can think about is this: The Sox have been the ideal leveraging partner for agents this offseason for three reasons: - they don't comment on rumors - plethora of positions needing improvement - haven't spent much this offseason
  8. Nightengale is simply reporting what the Sox want the public to know. Not his fault the sox haven't gotten a big FA.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 02:29 AM) You really think he would make up a quote? What would be his motivation? He doesn't have a horse in the race. I really don't think he cares where Desmond signs. Plus, the quote sort of shoots down a poker game. That ship has sailed followed by a contract offer would make no sense. Perhaps they talked to him earlier this week and perhaps today, and realized they weren't going to come to terms, where then both stories were correct. Yep all Heyman said was they were considering a run. Maybe they asked what he was seeking at this stage of the game and it was still too much.
  10. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 02:27 AM) Hahn also came out & denied that they were only going 3 years with any of the top guys, so obviously Nightengale wasn't telling the truth. I highly doubt Hahn would say it was true. Still no evidence they offered more than 3 year base deals.
  11. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 02:23 AM) I'm not sure what Nightingales angle is with the sox this offseason but it's been kinda downing rumors about the sox Has he been wrong about anything though
  12. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 03:16 AM) Wasn't Heyman the one reporting it and hayes building off of it. Nightingale just seems to come out kill the buzz. Yep Hayes got the report confirmed. Highly doubt they talked to same person.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 02:10 AM) What rumor has Hayes been out in front of this winter? If it has happened, I sure haven't seen it. None, which makes this unique
  14. Hayes seems rather confident in his source
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 02:07 AM) Well somebody with "sources" got played. I don't think it is Nightengale. If he is using a White Sox official as a quote, I doubt he is making that up. Certainly doesn't seem like they are preparing a big run, and really that was the first clue it was probably BS. That isn't how they do business. I wonder who Hayes' source was, Agents sure like using the Sox this offseason to help their negotiations it seems
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 02:59 AM) So this was totally a plant by TeamDesmond. But what about Hayes confirming it? I imagine his source was tied to Sox.
  17. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 01:58 AM) Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 1m1 minute ago The #WhiteSox have been publicly linked to free agent SS Ian Desmond, but one White Sox official said Thursday: "That ship has sailed.'' LMAO this **** is ridiculous. And boom goes that rumor
  18. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 12:34 AM) Can't see any of those teams actually needing him to play short (which is what my post said). Unless it was reported they were. Cardinals: Peralta (won't move to third due to Carpenter) Nationals: Drew/Espinoza holding down the fort until Turner comes up. Indians: Lindor (maybe play Desmond at third? Doubt they will get involved). Angels: Simmons Sorry didn't see the SS filter. Only teams for SS could be Twins and Rays
  19. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 01:21 AM) Lol seriously. I can only think of one team that could use him off the top of my head: White Sox. (At short stop any way) Possibilities: Cardinals, Nationals, Indians, Angels
  20. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 01:00 AM) I think they sign Desmond then trade for outfielder Prediction is Desmond and Venable
  21. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 10:53 PM) I will say this- I don't think a front office would ever even consider looking at WAR numbers when putting together a team. I disagree, and I'm sure every team has a similar formula to determine how valuable a player is.
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 10:43 PM) If desmond ends up sacking I blame fathom He's not a very enjoyable player to watch. Tons of strikeouts, tons of errors. With that said, he is a great buy-low candidate
  23. For me, I used to hate WAR. But the more I analyzed it, the more I realized how it was eliminating the viewer bias I had when watching certain players.
  24. Judging by his twitter account, Desmond is not in Chicago taking a physical....he's out fishing today
  25. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 08:54 PM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/orga...-rankings-list/ BA ranks us at #23. I know they graduated a ton last year but still surprised the Cubs fell to #20. Texas traded a bunch of prospects for Hamels but improved from #11 to #7. Braves went from #29 to #3, pretty impressive. More shocking was how high Law had the Cubs ranked
