  1. I'll be honest, I don't even know what the argument is anymore. No one truly thinks the Sox are going to be trading Sale or Santiago. Outside of that, everyone will be on the market I'd assume and no one seems too against that. That doesn't mean all 23 players on the active roster will get traded. As long as you have the likes of Sale/Santiago in your rotation, it's hard to picture a situation where a full rebuild in the mode of the Marlins takes place. That doesn't mean that you spend a fortune this offseason to try to path every hole the big league roster has.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 14, 2013 -> 12:44 AM) Phegley homer (8) Off of a MLB caliber pitcher, the rehabbing Morales.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 13, 2013 -> 11:42 PM) Because they aren't Soxtalk and aren't smart enough to realize if you are 5 games on May 13th with a .225 team batting average, the season and the decade are over. A team like the Mets know they won't contend this year, but the talk is that they're trying to find ways to get Stanton. They know they have Harvey and Wheeler in their rotation for the next 5 years or so, and that is what they're trying to build their franchise around.
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ May 13, 2013 -> 11:39 PM) Our glut of pitching should yield a major league hitter at some point. Axelrod should be worth a 1 WAR hitter If you think there is a chance of getting anything of value for Axelrod, you should trade him right this second. I don't think he has near the trade value that you do. He's not exactly a young, high ceiling pitcher that teams covet.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 13, 2013 -> 11:37 PM) If you are willing to take on some money, you can get some guys for just about nothing every year. It seems like there are less teams than usual that might be looking to sell. It must be the optimism about TV rights, etc. Teams like the Mets and Padres are talking about adding payroll despite losing records this year.
  6. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 14, 2013 -> 12:35 AM) LOL! What free agents? Who do the Sox trade that doesn't send this thing into a rebuild? Good luck signing high priced free agents with the Dodgers, Cubs and other big market teams lurking. If healthy, someone like Chase Utley (mentioned on this board quite often) seems like a perfect fit for the Dodgers (born in California, college at UCLA).
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 14, 2013 -> 12:30 AM) I alrady pointed it out. The pitching is fine. There will be plenty of money to use to acquire hitters through trades and free agency. This is where the awful farm system really hurts the Sox. Who can they use in the minors to actually go out and acquire MLB caliber hitters?
  8. The main thing that article showed to me is that Alexei should be traded if possible. Lot of money being spent on him the next few years with some serious offensive decline taking place. I still think Alexei for Matt Adams makes a lot of sense for both teams.
  9. Personally, I would have chosen tomorrow to be the day Konerko gets off and Dunn plays. Hernandez has been blasted by righties all year while he's dominated lefties.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2013 -> 10:55 PM) And since this type of deal will not happen, we need to get the guy who keeps saying "Tear it down and build for 2017" to stop saying so. Yep, Sale is the type of player you build around. I totally get the argument for trading Peavy in that he will most likely be off the roster by the time you are competitive again with the Tigers. However, the same is not true with Sale. If you build your team around a stable of Sale/Santiago/Quintana, it makes it a lot easier to use your resources on offense.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2013 -> 11:49 PM) Then there's literally no reason for anyone to keep talking about Dealing Sale like it's a good idea. Harper, Trout and Machado are the 3 hitters that I would trade Sale for, no questions asked. As good as Kershaw is, Sale is going to make a lot less money than him for the next 5 years.
  12. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ May 13, 2013 -> 02:41 AM) My guess is that when the Sox era ends.....the tour comes to an end as well (unless there's a stop in Charlotte) Not a chance another team won't take a chance on him. I could see the Reds going after him with Ludwick and Heisey injured.
  13. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 13, 2013 -> 02:40 AM) It had some balls behind it too. On a different note, anyone else think that Tyler Greene might end up pushing out Sanchez when he's back? Sanchez who?
  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 13, 2013 -> 03:38 AM) Sale is awesome. One of the better pitched games I've ever seen a Sox pitcher have.
  15. Hell of a turn on the 5-4-3
  16. Trade him
  17. Nice Alexei! Amazing what having a competent #2 hitter can do. Credit to Ventura for putting Ramirez into the spot (even if he had been slumping).
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 13, 2013 -> 02:58 AM) Cubs sign Rizzo to a 7-year, $41 million deal through 2019 per Ken Rosenthal. How many free agency years is that buying out, 2?
  19. I love hearing Kruk be critical of our hitters....the type of stuff you rarely hear from Hawk and Stone.
  20. Nice AB by Greene there
  21. Impressive fastball by Sale there to bail out Ventura and the ump.
  22. Wait, they're really pitching to Trumbo here?
  23. QUOTE (Baron @ May 13, 2013 -> 02:41 AM) Nice Kepp. Look at a fastball down the middle and swing at that crap. How much are we paying you again? When Keppinger bats, it seems like the opposition has 15 defenders on the field.
  24. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 13, 2013 -> 02:40 AM) 3 in 3 games right? 4 in 3
