  1. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 2, 2013 -> 10:53 PM) The table could not be more set for Rose to step in and help out his team and teammates. Even God is probably pointing to the situation and saying "hey, tonight you have to play" Except for he's supposedly sick as well
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:54 PM) It really is too bad the Cubs got Villanueva. I have wanted him since he was with Milwaukee. I think he's just a great pitcher who keeps getting jerked around between the pen and the rotation. If you leave him in just one spot, he'd flourish in either place. Couldn't agree more, I thought he was one of the best signings this past offseason. His style of pitching should flourish in the NL.
  3. QUOTE (Jillian Michaels' Abs @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:35 PM) Yea, so I think the joke is lost having not been spoken aloud. Braves fans don't want Uggla hitting or playing in the field. Since they play in the NL and obviously don't have a DH, Uggla wouldn't be playing much. I enjoy Braves fans banter. They hate watching young Teheran pitch and they also hate their 3rd base coach.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 2, 2013 -> 09:37 PM) And after that 8th inning, I think he's up to 15th in ERA. Haha, and some projecting shows we'll face all their starters besides Villanueva later this month.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:11 PM) First of all, I'm pretty sure Garland had a bum shoulder for a while. That's all moot because he's back in the majors and pitching effectively for Colorado. Jeremy Guthrie is a pretty damn good pitcher. Not counting this year, he's been pretty effective in 3 of the last 5 years, and he did seem to figure something out with KC last year, because he's been good to start the year this year as well (even if he's faced the Sox). Bruce Chen, for much of his career, has been a 5th/swingman type who is basically there to eat innings, and he's put up a career 4.57 ERA in the process. There's no reason Floyd couldn't come back and be the 4.00 ERA pitcher he was before. If he does need TJ, there's no one pitch in particular that caused it. It's a matter of teams harnessing his natural ability. That's not to say there's no possibility that his stuff won't be affected, but TJ just doesn't hurt stuff too much. Maybe the surgery will do him a favor and force him to abandon the cutter/slider and just use his fastball/curveball a majority of the time.
  6. QUOTE (Jillian Michaels' Abs @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:08 PM) If the White Sox arent going to contend this year (duh) and the Braves are contending, Rik Hon needs to trade Gordon Beckham to the Braves. Braves need a 2B and the Sox need a whole lot of stuff. What would it take from the Braves to make this deal work? Kris Medlen? Mike Minor? Brandon Beachy? All 3? Braves have Uggla, he's making way too much money for them to sit down.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:04 PM) I'll be happy to bet you that he will put up numbers significantly worse than that by the end of the year. Well, I would certainly hope so. However, he's proved he can at least start in the majors, something that seems like it would take a miracle to get to say about Molina.
  8. Can we please retroactively trade Sergio Santos for Travis Wood? He's now 5th in the NL in WHIP and 7th in ERA.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 2, 2013 -> 07:50 PM) I have a strong feeling you're wrong Yep, he's still plenty young enough to return from a TJ surgery if he requires it. Heck, he might be better off in the long run if the elbow has been bugging him the last two years.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2013 -> 07:45 PM) If it keeps up, a lot of people will get their wish for a selloff and sixty win baseball. Yeah, but we don't want the injuries to be to the possible trade chips the Sox have. A Peavy long-term injury would be devastating for this organization.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:33 PM) If that's true, do you really think the final decision on that was Ventura's? Face it, this team thought his current injury was fairly minor 2 days agao. I never blamed it solely on Ventura.

QUOTE (Cali @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:28 PM) Tell that to Mark Prior. Or Josh Johnson-Joe Girardi

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:29 PM) But who has an injury you can even remotely pin on playing too much last year? Floyd actually pitched fewer innings than any year he was in the White Sox rotation. Beckham broke a bone. Viciedo pulled an oblique. Sanchez and Keppinger weren't even White Sox. Danks injury certainly wasn't a result of Robin running him into the ground. Septimo hardly pitched for the White Sox. They rushed Floyd back from his elbow injury big time last year. IIRC, they didn't even give him a rehab start prior to rushing him back to face the Tigers in a big game. If they weren't in contention, they probably would have shut him down for the year.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:21 PM) For some reason, a back spasm popping up in May seems unlikely to be caused by pitching too many innings during a season that ended 7 months prior. Funny thing is that I wasn't even referring to Peavy's injury when I made the comment about guys being pushed so hard last season and the resulting impact you sometimes see the following year.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2013 -> 07:12 PM) Of all of the people that were pushed hard, Peavy was not one of them. Him and Sale both got lots of extra days off and skipped starts. Sale yes, but it seemed they pushed Peavy pretty hard last year. He was 5th in innings pitched. With that said, hopefully this is just a minor issue (I assume it is), and he'll be able to start again soon. Gavin's injury on the other hand.....
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:07 PM) Shoulder strain. Will be evaluated in NC and later Chicago. There goes his future conversion to being a pitcher

QUOTE (Cali @ May 2, 2013 -> 07:03 PM) If that's true, it's yet another ding in Robin's armor. I wouldn't say it's his fault really. It's just the price you pay when you're in contention all season long. Unfortunately, the Sox have nothing to show for contending last year though.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 2, 2013 -> 07:00 PM) So many years of the Sox being so much better than the rest of baseball at keeping guys healthy. Plenty of credit for that goes to the training and conditioning people, but even if they are really good... bad luck had to hit at some point. I guess this year, so far, is that point. Let's hope pushing players extremely hard last year isn't coming back to bite the White Sox.

Is Peavy going to be able to start this wknd?
  20. fathom replied to Dick Allen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Man, what is going on this season! Unreal, and it doesn't look like a rainout will happen.
  21. For the next few months, you'd like to see Gillaspie on the bench against LHP. If the Sox fall out of contention though, I'd love to see Gillaspie be a full-time starter so he can get experience vs LHP (very minimal in his MLB career so far) in order to see if he can hit them. If Gillaspie can be a .275 hitter and provide 13-15 homers, it will be a great young piece for this team going forward.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 2, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) If you are out of contention, I absolutely agree. But for a contending team, there is nothing wrong with having Gavin towards the middle or back of your rotation. Over the past 5 seasons, he averaged 190 IP, with around a 4.12 ERA. I'd love to see how many starters in the AL could say that over the same time frame, I'm sure it's not a lot. Yet Sox fans seem to think he is Danny Wright. If I thought the Sox could contend this year and/or Gavin would have a lot of trade value at the deadline, I think I'd be a lot more upset with the news.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 2, 2013 -> 04:52 PM) People seem to think that 30-start, 4.00-4.25 ERA (in the AL) starters grow on trees or something. You pretty much know by now what you'll get from Floyd over the course of the season. If the Sox aren't going to be in contention, I have no problem seeing what Santiago can give you as a starter for a full year.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2013 -> 03:39 PM) K-Town Intimidators ‏@Intimidators 16m A couple roster moves to announce today, including a promotion to Winston-Salem. Who could it be? We'll tell you soon... Micah Johnson?
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 2, 2013 -> 03:40 PM) That's honestly the first time I had ever heard about it. I was always under the impression that insurance only kicked in if the player missed the whole season. However, over the last year or so, it seems like that isn't accurate.
