Viciedo's plate discipline is terrible right now. The difference in his K rate against RHP and LHP is amazing. -

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 12:24 AM) Let's face it, the offense is in a funk right now. Youkilis' heroics have masked the under-performing heart of the order not named Rios. I feel like any other night and we might well have 5 on the board right now. His curve is up in the zone. Yep, fouling off a lot of good pitches to hit -

What happened on Santiago's single that didn't move the runner over? -

AJP getting good pitches to hit, just can't square them up. Peavy's got to get the momentum back for the Sox. -

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 12:06 AM) Bah way to go peavy He's been pretty bad for a while now. You have to wonder when the insane amount of pitches he's had to throw is going to get to him -

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 12:05 AM) Jake throwing a ton of pitches. Ugh Too pumped coming out of the gate? -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 07:05 PM) Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS #brewers did offer Zack Greinke $100M PLUS (maybe even $112.5M). but signs say hell be free agent. I will never understand the Greinke love

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) $13mill next yr, FA in 2014. Perfect acquisition, and would be affordable with Peavy's contract off the books and Floyd likely gone. I just hope the Sox are able to keep Quintana in any of these trades.

QUOTE (northside sawx @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 04:19 PM) I really don't think blaming Reed is fair. He came into a situation that was already compromised, Robin coulda brought out anyone and we were still losing the game at that point. I completely disagree. Red Sox still needed a hit in that situation to tie the game. Reed's big issue continues to be that outside of a change-up he never throws to righties, he has no pitch to change the eye level of the hitter. Everything things to be around the belt. Earlier in the year, I felt like he was utilizing the high fastball more effectively.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 04:22 AM) i dont know what to make of this team. weve seen stretches in which they can look really good but then you see the glaring weaknesses. theres a lot of holes on this team, eventually it just may be too many to overcome The injuries have caught up with the team. They've done a sensational job of overcoming adversity all year, and I'd be stunned if they didn't perform well this weekend. If they lose tomorrow, there's no reason to be panic yet. Even if Sox only win one game this weekend, they'll go home in first place.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 04:01 AM) I just looked at his splits this year, and they are very weird. Righties are only hitting .187 against him, but of the 14 hits, 5 are 2b, 6 are HRs, for a .781 OPS. (.187/.287/.493) Lefties are hitting .304, but only one HR of 17 hits, for a .775 OPS. (.304/.418/.357) My observation as to why that would be is due to his fastball. He has pretty good control of his fastball, as he throws it up and in to righties and on the outer half to lefties. Obviously, it's a lot easier for righties to pull that ball over the fence.

QUOTE (northside sawx @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 04:00 AM) Can't be worse than what we got though, right? Yes it can be. With the limited resources the Sox have, making a trade that doesn't provide an immediate upgrade would be a mistake.

19/7 - White Sox @ Red Sox: Split to play for

QUOTE (northside sawx @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 02:45 AM) Without looking up stats its safe to say we've had the least productive bench in the majors this year. By far. Save Hudsons walk-off, they haven't done a damn thing all year. The bench is probably hitting in the .175-.185 range this year with no power. -

QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 02:43 AM) Thornton still gave up single to Gonzalez, and then Reed came in and gave up a bomb to lose the game. I know it's all the fallacy of the predetermined outcome but the game was still far from over, especially with Thornton on the mound. I'd love to see the spray chart for AGon's grounders this season. Despite the DP situation, it seems like the Sox gave him way too large of a hole between Konerko and Beckham. You could see AGon's swings in that AB that he was trying to hit it right where he ended up hitting it. -

QUOTE (59th street @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 03:36 AM) Quintana has been unbelievable. Truly a shame to have this happen a second time in @ a month. ...but; this is baseball and strange/bad things happen over the course of a long season. This one really hurts but it does NOT end the season. The biggest culprit in my opinion has been our lack of offense. SOX have beaten Verlander 10 times. There is a lot of baseball left to play and we have been a very gritty team. Now is not the time to overact to the emotions of a very difficult and unpleasant loss. GO GO WHITE SOX! Great post, this team has avoided huge slumps all year. EVEN if the Sox lose tomorrow, they still have significant pitching match-up advantages on Saturday and Sunday. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 02:31 AM) Can't Hudson play third as well as Esky? I sensed from Hawk's tone he was not surprised at Esky's lousy play on the easy DP. Got to make that play in the ninth. You just have to. Hudson demonstrated he can't play 3b. Youk's made us forget about what a disaster he was. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 02:25 AM) Trying not to go to the dark side, but it's going to be interesting to see which teams make major moves at the end of July only to regret them two weeks later. I'm really hoping the Sox aren't one of them. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 02:24 AM) Who do you have on the bench instead??? Someone with speed The bench has been a HUGE disappointment this season. -
QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 02:17 AM) Y couldn't Youkilis just man up and demand a pinch hit AB instead of just sitting on the bench. It wouldn't shock me if Ventura decided to keep Escobar in the game for defensive reasons.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 03:18 AM) Escobar doesn't need to be cut, for f***'s sake he had a bad 9th inning let it rest. Regardless of what happened tonight, there's absolutely no reason to be wasting a roster spot keeping both Escobar and Hudson. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 03:18 AM) Quintana has been nothing short of amazing. But there's no way in hell I'm trading Viciedo for a quick fix just to get a Wild Card when the entire bullpen is in total disarray. There's just too much to fix there. They don't have a single reliable LH reliever and Jones has been terrible recently. Crain, when healthy, hasn't been as good as 2011. The other problem is that the league has seemingly figured DeAza out (destroy him with offspeed stuff), Dunn's slumping and closing in on .200 and Konerko doesn't have the ability to "turn and burn" as Hawk says. Just way too many holes right now to gamble the future on one more starting pitcher. AL Central isn't out of the question, and tonight's outcome is no reason to lose hope yet. I do agree that giving up anything from the Major League roster for a rental would be a bad decision. -
