  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 03:33 AM) I don't think trading him for Hamels would be a bad idea. Would winning the World Series be a bad idea this year? Yes, terrible idea trying to win it this year The thing is, I still don't believe the Sox can compete with other teams to get these marquee players. Rangers have so much more to offer than the Sox do, and they supposedly want Hamels. I've said a few times now that the Sox/Brewers absolutely don't match up.
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 03:31 AM) Give me 7-7 the rest of the month right now. I'll take it. According to my quick calculations, we'll miss Liriano in both series against the Twins. If Sox can just survive the rest of the week and go 3-3, I think they can go on a nice run.
  3. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 02:28 AM) we are in trouble They had to do this in order to call up Humber, no biggie
  4. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 02:25 AM) Now trib reporting Floyd to DL.... Rotation seems to be: Tues-Humber Wed-Hernandez Thurs-Quintana Fri-Peavy Sat-Sale Sun-Axelrod
  5. QUOTE (Carter224 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 03:23 AM) Uh, who said a middle reliever? And the only fools around here are people who think Quintana is legit. I think we all accept he's not a 2 ERA pitcher, but he seems like he could be a solid #4/5 for cheap for years to come. With the way Greinke has pitched of late, who's to say Greinke will pitch better the rest of the way than Q?
  6. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 03:19 AM) When is Quintana pitching? Thursday
  7. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 03:15 AM) We've squeezed by up til this point. Don't confuse number of rookies on a roster for organizational depth. Do you think the bullpen status quo can hold on to win the division and win series in the playoffs? I don't. You are correct though, I should have clarified and said that the org depth hasnt yet hurt us too much, as we've gotten lucky (IMO) so far and been able to use smoke and mirrors to get by. I'm just not confident with it moving forward Especially with the Tigers lurking and seemingly willing to unload their farm system (besides Castellanos) to upgrade their team. If you told me the Sox would be up by 2 games after this Sunday, I'd say that sounds great.
  8. If you want to trade Viciedo, Jones, Mitchell and Sanchez for King Felix, go right ahead.
  9. QUOTE (Carter224 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 02:10 AM) Gimme a break, Viciedo is a .275 hitter who is gonna hit 25-30 homeruns, doesn't walk, doesn't hit doubles, and strikes out a lot.. Its crazy that people think Viciedo is some untouchable prize, yet Jared Mitchell who is having a solid season in Double A is horses*** and worthless.. Ide rather win now, and ide not only be up for trading Viciedo but Quintana as well.. Hell maybe you could sucker someone into taking Viciedo and Quintana as the only return for one of these top pitchers.. Wed STEAL that deal, easy Who's going to play left field if Viciedo is dealt? Also, in today's era, many GMs are clamoring for power bats because they're so hard to find on the market, so Viciedo should be worth way more than a rental. Trading Viciedo and Quintana for 10 starts of Greinke? No thanks
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 03:07 AM) Do you think the Sox will have a better chance to win a World Series in the next three years with Viciedo than they have at this very moment. If the answer is anything other than yes you can't keep him. Considering that besides Hamels I don't think there's a true ace on the market, then no I don't think trading him gives them a better chance at the WS.
  11. When it boils down to it, the offense is going to have to pick it up and win this team some games (ie: Friday night). If the offense can score more than a run against Aaron Cook, I'm sure we see Thornton in the 8th. I'm interested to see what has to happen for Ventura to shake up the lineup, and I would bet nothing happens until next week.
  12. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 03:00 AM) Probably. After this game, it's best to deal Viciedo for the rotation upgrade and Jones for pen help. Of course, you'd have to add sweetners, maybe even Quintana, but you have to do it at this point. Trading Viciedo for someone who's only a rental would be just a terrible idea. Look at the contracts being thrown around for Hamels and Greinke. 20 million dollars...yeah right, Sox won't be offering that.
  13. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 02:57 AM) We're in first place with all those things that you mentioned...we've got a bullpen with 8 rookies and 1 vet, a patchwork starting rotation with 3 of our SP from April currently on the shelf......and we don't have organizational depth?!?!? How many teams could remain in first place given the injuries we've sustained. You guys kills me after losses. He said Quintana has been a savior, as he was someone that probably wasn't even in the top 10 of possible starters for the Sox coming into the year. Knowing his posting style, I think he meant to say it has been impressive with how they have managed to get by so far.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 02:54 AM) The sky truly is falling with you whenever the Sox lose. You do know they will not win every game, right? I was actually saying how fortunate the Sox are that they did revisit the situation (something that I'm not so sure they would have done in the past). How can you not say that injuries have caught up to the pitching? Poor Axelrod has now pitched in 4 of our last 8 games, and you have a returning from injury Humber and a AA pitcher having to start the next two games. It's definitely survival mode for the pitching right now.
  15. Hopefully Angels can get to Valverde so it's not one of those really bad results nights. Props to Axelrod for pitching a hell of a game.
  16. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 01:48 AM) No doubt about. Our lack of organizational depth has really hurt us this year as the pitching staff is as banged up as it has been in a long time. I can't remember the last time we had 2 starters miss as much time as danks and number, plus Floyd, sale and peach have all been skipped over for soreness. Add in that crain has been hurt and we just don't have the arms right now. Frankly pulling Quintana out of nowhere has been an enormous savior, and I guarantee the org didn't expect this from him I was thinking yesterday about what would have happened if Sale did get sent to the bullpen and that decision wasn't revisited. As you said, the injury situation has really caught up to the staff.
  17. Did they ever say who's pitching Wednesday?
  18. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 02:44 AM) Thornton was shown warming up last inning ugh
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 02:45 AM) We've had one major injury to our bullpen and cut our worst reliever. How far has it really gotten? Then how did it get to this point where it's Thornton, Reed or pray?
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 02:44 AM) I don't think Septimo sucks. He's just a rookie facing some tough ass lefties. He should remain on the roster. Jones should have entered the game at least a batter sooner it seems, but to some extent you have to let a guy go out there and pitch. If he fails, he fails. You are the most patient fan I've ever met. I give you a lot of credit for that.
  21. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 02:43 AM) Everyone is smart after the fact, hey? Probably about a dozen posters asking why Septimo over Thornton way before the AGon homer
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 02:41 AM) Who knows, his f***ing forearm could be tight. Hindsight is awesome and all but Septimo got squeezed and gave up a bomb to one of the best hitters in the game. It happens. We all said this is assuming Thornton is healthy
  23. One thing we can all agree on is that KW needs to act now about the bullpen, as he can't sit around until the deadline and hope the inexperienced bullpen survive during a very tough stretch of games. Especially given the starting pitching injuries, the bullpen is going to be used a lot.
