  1. Bad defense, bad umpiring cost Quintana a run. He has to get his slider going, as he's throwing a ton of fastballs. That Youk DP was a huge play in this game.
  2. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 09:03 PM) Three points inspired by posts on this thread: 1. Extra set of eyes remark regarding Ventura ... With Robin being a solid lefty hitter, has he had input the resulted in the resurgence of Dunn and A.J. ... also De Aza's success. Could be, but we'll never know. 2. Rios resurgence. I think it's because he's back in RF where he's comfortable. 3. Honestly, I forget number 3 but I'll say this. Robin has done a masterful job of putting players in a position to succeed. Switching Reed to closer has helped both pitchers involved. All 3, if you include Thornton in the mix. Also, not giving up outs offensively and defensively. This is HUGE! And the fundamentals have been much better compared to recent seasons. I'd like to point out the fact Ventura didn't have Alexei bunt last Friday vs Toronto in a 1-0 game with runner on 2nd, no outs (5th inning). Instead of playing for one run, Ventura let Alexei swing away and the Sox ended up scoring 3 runs in the inning on a lot of hits that would have been outs if the infield wasn't playing in.
  3. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 08:44 PM) I think Millwood and Wolf are realistic expectations. Wolf in the AL in a hitter's park is very scary
  4. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 08:29 PM) I just hope they have a plan. I totally understand the 2012-2013 season. They know its lost, and they don't want to spend the money on veterans for nothing. That makes sense to me. BUT, what do you do with the team when Rose does come back? If you expect him to be superman and carry the entire team, with the Heat, Nets, and whoever else, that isn't going to work Yep, the plan has to be to give yourself as much flexibility after this coming season to make necessary changes.
  5. The AL Central/2nd Wild Card makes a lot of sense for the White Sox and Tigers
  6. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 05:15 PM) I'm excited by Teague too, by all signs he is also a good penetrator and finisher at the rim. I'll be honest, I thought Teague was terrible for a majority of the last season. When rooting against Kentucky, he was always the guy that if he made a good play, you were disappointed cause you thought he was the weak link in the lineup. Patrick Beverly is an extremely active player, but he never made me think he could be a pure point guard.
  7. Anyone else watch the Humber perfect game replay on Comcast last night? Great programming on a quiet night. It's amazing though how much quicker Dunn's bat speed was earlier in the year.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 08:10 PM) Q is not going to be a better pitcher than a healthy John Danks. We sure of that? Danks was healthy last year and not very good.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) Even if it were something like Nate Jones, Jared Mitchell, possibly Petricka. I'd make that deal. Don't think Byrnes would though. I don't think that even gets you Volquez
  10. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 08:04 PM) Nothing is wrong with that. But you have Sale, Peavy and Q in front of him right now...he's a #4 on this staff...and NOT the reason we will or will not go to the post season. A #4 starter is a heck of a lot better than what we've gotten from Humber and Axelrod (and Stewart) this year.
  11. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 08:00 PM) Don't trade Nate, addy or Q and we are good If you can get a lot of value for Nate Jones as the centerpiece of the deal, then see ya Nate. I like Jones, but most 26 year old set-up men aren't considered deal breakers.
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 06:58 PM) I am pretty sure San Diego will not have interest in Flowers or Danks. I don't think the White Sox have a package I would accept if I were Josh Byrnes. The Sox have no pitching to trade and Simon Castro came from the Padres. Mitchell has to be in this deal. There is nobody else; especially if SD wants pitching. If Molina has value, then include him also. A control pitcher like him has a lot more value in San Diego than Chicago anyways.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 07:53 PM) Crain's injury has to be labeled as "nagging" at this point. He has missed time with his shoulder three times this year., right? And he hasn't looked right most of the year on the mound. His numbers are deceptive, as he's gotten away with just a ton of pitches up in the zone. Tons of credit goes to Crain though, as I bet he hasn't been 100% all year. The Sox desperately need a righty set-up man with experience, in my opinion. Volquez won't come cheap though, and I hope KW doesn't consider trading Viciedo for these guys. Mitchell should be the main guy the Sox look to trade if he has any value at all.
  14. QUOTE (MAX @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 06:12 PM) The thought actually occurred to me that he might be too happy go lucky for some clubhouses. But I have no idea what he is like on a losing team. Maybe he isn't all jokes and smiles. The didn't show him for a second in the clubhouse during the show.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 07:17 PM) If you count Humber, we're already sitting here 6 deep in terms of starting pitching, right? Sale Peavy Floyd Quintana Axelrod Humber Which means if this team is trading for a starter, it needs to get someone who is significantly more reliable than either Humber or Axelrod to make it worth doing the deal at all. After Greinke and Hamels, you get to guys like Garza and Dempster (Dempster can say no to us). Wandy Rodriguez is available but has big money next year. Brett Meyers has started before but he's in the bullpen now. Then that leaves you Liriano. Don't rule out Mr. Stanford, Jeremy Guthrie
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 06:02 PM) Otherwise, I don't know how to do it without using Viciedo. No way do you give up Viciedo for what's likely to be 2 months worth of starts. You use someone like Jared Mitchell and others for a mid-level guy, or if you go after a lower-level caliber starter, you could get him by giving up someone like Petricka or Rienzo. In my opinion, Humber has got to get another chance to prove he has anything left.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 06:56 PM) Now that is how you time signing a contract extension. The Clippers, ladies and gentlemen
  18. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 05:57 PM) We might need another pitcher. Let's just hope Humber returns and can give us a 4.75 ERA type rest of season.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 05:55 PM) Ugh. Of course, because it is the year after he signed a five year deal and we are in a pennant race. Yep, at this point, I don't think Danks can be counted on for 2012. Like you mentioned, really bad luck for the Sox as not many people saw this injury-plagued season coming. I just hope he can be ready for 2013.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 05:45 PM) Caulfield just likes mentioning as many names as possible. Septimo has been fine from what I've seen as well. Kind of reminds me of Felix Heredia (which isn't the most glowing of comps, just physically) He reminds me so much of Rafael Perez of the Indians, where every other slider seems to be in the dirt.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 06:17 PM) Ugh. Why would you watch that? Keeping up with the Kardashians not on? It's an amazing show. Better than Hard Knocks, in my opinion.
  22. On The Franchise last night, the Marlins Team President asked Ozzie about three times "are you sure you're not keeping Heath Bell as closer only due to him making 9 million a year?". Ozzie responded that wasn't the reason why he wanted him to be closer, as he felt the team was better with Bell as the closer and the 9 million dollar salary was the fault of the front office, and not him.
  23. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 11:51 PM) LOL @ DePaul/BYU Those teams might have the 3rd/4th best chances behind Duke and MSU
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 05:32 PM) Sounds like they may just have locked down Parker, reading between the lines. Illinois not in Parker's top ten
  25. Top 5 Games: 1) 2-1 win over Tampa where Sale strikes out 15 and Dunn hits 2 run homer 2) Humber perfect game 3) First game of Yankees series where Viciedo hit 3 run homer in 9th 4) First game vs Cubs this year where Konerko got hit, Beckham homered, Wood retired 5) Tigers game where Dunn homers off of Valverde, Reed era as closer begins
